Full Version: Would my limited edition 4E book be worth anything now?

I've had one sitting on my shelf since they came out, pretty much just sitting there. I had hoped to keep it, but I could use the money.

I've tried to keep an eye out from time to time on eBay for them to see what they are worth, but I've not seen any on there in a long time. Any clues?

EDIT: Ok, posted a link to the auction, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=320247910247

not worth a cent, I'm sure... you should just send it to me. wink.gif

The unhelpful answer is whatever people are willing to pay for it. Best advice is to put it up for auction with a reserve set at whatever the least you're willing to accept it for it and take your chances.

Doesn't eBay nail you with a fee if you put a reserve on something and it doesn't sell?
Speed Wraith
That fee used to be practically nothing, I don't know if that has changed.

I don't know what yours is worth, but mine, which I won at the 2006 Gencon SR Tourney, is gonna be buried with me. nyahnyah.gif And, before you get any ideas, the grave is going to be unmarked. wink.gif

Vlad while I read your post I could not help but picture your little icon as the person actually making that statement. biggrin.gif

It's only worth what people are willing to pay for it. Since Catalyst has reissued SR4 the market for the core book isn't that hot right now. The collectibles game is a risky one.
DocTaotsu
I'd like to take this time to thank CGL for reissuing SR4 in hardcover and not some flimsy crappy paperback.

This means I don't have to wish daggers into their faces like I did to Wizkids after the 3rd ed idiocy.

I think he was referring to the limited print, black leather bound edition, not the regualr hardcover.

Goddamnit vlad! Now everytime you post I look at your goddamn icon and wait for him to start talking ;p

Oh now, that would jsut be cool!

*sighs* Some day there is going to be a full-fledged Matrix. We were jsut born too early, fellow DS'ers.

And I up the bid to 6 bucks for the BBB LE.

Truly, even if the SR timeline suddenly decides to apply to my life I'll be an old man before all the really cool stuff starts happening.

And it doesn't look like I'll be much use to Leonization either...
Stahlseele
right now, i think the € is worth 1,6$ or something like that . . so, yeah, i would probably say 20$, maybe 30$ . . but i have no means of transferring money from point europe to point america

Just took a quick look at Shadowrun listings on Ebay right now and it's pretty quiet. Only 97 items. A big chunk of them are copies of that MS game selling for 10-20 bucks. A few cards from the CCG. Old adventures & sourcebooks look like they're selling dirt cheep. And a single copy of the 4th ed core book (non collectors) selling for $24.88 as a 'buy it now' price.

I'd say it looks like now is a bad time to try and get into the collectors market, the interest spawned by the PC game has flatlined and Catalyst hasn't come out wiht anything really new and shiny. If you aren't desperate (like trying to pay rent) then I'd say hang onto it.
DocTaotsu
It actually sounds like if your desperate to pay the rent you're probably better off donating plasma.

In fact if you're willing to work off the books I happen to know a guy who... j/k wink.gif

But seriously, plasma donations good times if you're hard up for a little cash. Provided you haven't gotten any tattoos recently or indulged in half a dozen other past times that could potentially mess up your blood.

Cool! I don't have the number off mine at hand. It's currently sitting on a bookshelf about 700 miles away as one of the items I have already "moved." I am relocating from Indiana to Wichita at the beginning of the month and getting married soon after.

Speaking of which... are there any gamers in the Wichita area that are looking for a new player? Hell, maybe even a new GM, tho' it would be soooo nice to be able to play instead of run. biggrin.gif

Right now at least you'd probably make more money too. IIRC the limited edition books were 70-80 bucks when they first came out. I'm not sure mine doesn't have a price tag but I doubt you'd get even that much for it. It just isn't 'collectible' enough yet. Assuming Shadowrun continues to see success you'd probably have better luck when a 5th edition *ducks* comes out. New editions tend to drive up prices, even temporally.

For example, IME copies of the OD&D boxed set typically sell for 150-200 dollars. I've seen them as high as 400 recently, I expect this is because of the buzz about 4th edition.
deek
Collectibles are so fickle, though.

Your best bet is to hold onto it, seal it up someplace airtight and in about 150-200 years, when books no longer exist, pull that baby out and sell it to a collector who values books. It my be worth millions of yen (or whatever currency we are using, it surely won't be the dollar) to an interested collector of books.

I doubt you will ever be drawing much money for it being "Shadowrun".

Collectibles are EXTREMELY fickle. See the 90s boom-and-bust of the comic book market. Remember Beanie Babies anyone?

A SR v.1 limited edition hardcover might fetch a decent price but you'd be lucky to break even on a limited edition print of a still relatively-new version core rules system. It doesn't help that Shadowrun doesn't have the positive name branding of D&D or that the recent video game was horrible. Sorry to be such a pessimistic balloon popper. frown.gif
imperialus
Actually I did notice a bit of a spike when the PC game came out. It wasn't huge but you could tell that the PC game did attract some new players.

Huh. That's interesting. Whenever I tell a coworker that I GM a Shadowrun group they give me a funny look and say, "The video game?" When I explain it's "like D&D but in the future" then they get it. And just to put it into perspective, I work with total nerds. One of our salesmen, who is in his 40s, played OG D&D way back in high school.
imperialus
I think there were enough Shadowrun PnP players who picked up the game or hung around on FASA's forums that it kinda trickled down to some of the more receptive X-box gamers. The controversy alone probably got the attention of a few people.

Do so - and if you can find out and post the shipping costs to Europa, that would aweseom. smile.gif

I think USPS has a world wide flat rate box for something like $20.

I'd also be interested . let us know if you decide to post it on e-bay. My birthday is coming up and I may just "accidently " leave the page open for the wife to see. wobble.gif wobble.gif

Well, no bids yet. I get a feeling it's going to go down typical Shadowrun style. Violent and messy at the very last minute.

$50 as starting price my hold many potential bidders off.

Sure, but a lower starting price is more attractive for many people. That doesn't mean that the end price will be a low one too. wink.gif

As much as I'd love to, I don't think my 2 and 3 year old kids would understand.... "I'm really sorry sweeties, but we can't eat this week. I can't get the car running because I put all inter-personal relation skills as my dump stats. According to stats on average dice rolls, it's going to take me 37 days to find an engine because of it's high availability rating. We don't have any money to buy real food, but I have pleanty of nuyen to spend on nutrisoy and krill-patties. Here, this character died three runs ago, eat the character sheet. No really, it's paper so it's not considered canibalism."

Hmm... now that I think of it... fiber is good for you... I wonder if that might work....

Clearly you min/maxed and took the Dependant flaw from 3rd edition.

Well, it looks like it's going to fall a little short of the reserve, sadly. :/

a hundred dollars is probably a fairly good price. If you don't mind my asking, what was the reserve at?
