Not when they started using these, you didn't.

This was in the '50s! They fired one off, and then had soldiers march into it, just to study what happened. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/frown.gif)

Ooh, that would suck.

I hope they at least had a campfire to harden the tip of their pointed sticks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

"Affix... Bayonets!"

No, wait, that's the British Commonwealth Command.

What's the one for the US? Fix Bayonets?

Probably.

I bet there are US infantry who don't even know they can put their bayonet on their rifle. If they are even issued bayonets any more. I didn't when I was in country, but I was a REMF, not a shooter.

Even at a low yield setting, the M388 would produce an almost instantly lethal radiation dosage (in excess of 10,000 rem) within 500 feet (150 m), and a probably fatal dose (around 600 rem) within a quarter mile (400 meters).

The plan was to use it to stop Chinese style human wave assaults. You parked your jeep on the reverse slope of a hill and fired it over the hill at the bad guys. Then drove like mad away.

In a formal drill the command would be fix ... bayonets. Otherwise just one phrase.

Yeah. Too bad plastic and aluminum doesn't lend itself well for a spear base.

However, I've heard that guys in "The Sandbox" have gotten a supply of the "Vietnam Tomahawks" (Actually a US Design for use in Vietnam, IIRC) using modern materials! And that a lot of them are swearing by them. Can be used as an entrenching tool with less weight and better combat application.

Now, here's the question, Bayonet Mount on a Pather Assault Cannon... Would that be a Claymore Sword from Arsenal? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

I think SR has always cheated the Assault cannon by just treating it like an extra-large elephant gun.

I think the The Barrett Firearms XM109 is a much better model for an assault cannon. I think it would be better modeled as a grenade launcher with sniper rifle ranges.

A rifle that shoots low-velocity high explosive pleasure devices.
That's even kinkier.

WHY NOT?

Of course, I found the Ultimate Assault Cannon!

The ultimate cyberpunk rpg assault cannon is hands down the 75mm manpack howitzer from Underground.

Which, strangely enough, is the case for most full-auto weapons lighter than a LMG. It saves on weight and weapon size to use a lighter SA-style receiver.

And this is complete horse-hockey. IF you don't mind a full magazine at a time of FA only you can just bind the sear with a piece of wire. Otherwise you can often pick up the mil-spec firing mechanism, for civilian versions of military rifles, off the black market for about 1/2 the weapon's price.

As for a FA Barrett...that's not just unsmart, it's anti-smart. If smart and that FA Barrett were to ever touch, it would cause a massive blinding explosion that would annihilate all matter in a decent-sized area in a flash of hard radiation. Such an event would, inevitably, involve the death of many fluffy and adorable kittens.

A Harley is 12k. Wired 1 costs 11k. A single Activesoft 3 is 9k.
Its just a matter of priorities. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
