Right, but you can calculate distance based on the strength of the returning wave signal. Anti-radar materials deflect waves in a way that doesn't reflect it back at the station, or reduces your cross-section so that radar can't track you. Reducing your profile size to that of a vulture will draw some WTF glances because birds don't fly that high. Ultrasound has very good resolutions as well, so at shorter distances you would look like an anomaly, not a cat.

And that's my point. A wave loses strength over distance, so a "vulture signature" at 10 km might not even be reflected with strength enough for the radar station to pick it up in the first place.

The same would work for ultra-sound vision, you would either reflect it back with a lower signature (which wouldn't give you a cat-like shape, but it would reduce it greatly, thus a "cat-size signature") or you wouldn't echo it at all.
Now, is ultra-sound vision supposed to work like Marvel's Daredevil vision? With that kind of resolution? Because if it is that advancedm then yeah, at closer ranges a sound-absorbing suit wouldn't help you at all, but a greater distances, yeah, I think it would be fine.

I consider ultrasound vision similar to ultrasounds performed via pregnancies. You're thinking of ultrasound in an echolocation sense.

Aren't they supposed to work the same way? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/question.gif)
But yeah, I was thinking that ultra-sound vision was something like echolocation, not like Daredevil's sight...
Anyway, I'll check the differences between echolocation and ultra-sound devices and check the book on what it says about Ultra-sound vision.

The way I look at it is that ultrasound is echolocation, just with a machine to crunch numbers to present the data in exact visual representations. So while you can "see" objects around you with echolocation you lose some resolution in other words you will see a human shaped object about X meters high. With the computing backside you see a human with a high brow, defined chin, long nose, etc.

Detection by Ultrasound is moot if the rest of your team isn't as camouflaged as you are.

No one is going to switch to Ultrasound and be looking around when the rest of the team is in plain sight wearing armored jackets and spraying 9mm and 5.56mm rounds all over the place.

You don't have to be "unnoticeable"...just "less noticeable". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Which may play as a benefit to having fewer IPs as a ranged combatant. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Seriously, right? That story hails back to third when it burned a box of your damage track every time you took a hit. You should have seen his face when the player read about K12. I'm just gland the heavier combat drugs are so taboo at my table or else the kids would most certainly not be alright.

Doesn't stop me from picking up a few doses for my character on the off week game. So far he hasn't hit anything harder than Zero (allergies, ya know?) but there's nothing stopping him from deciding to hit the hard stuff if things get tough. It's hard being a hacker, sometimes you wanna be Captain UCAS for a minute and a half. Usually that's all it takes.

Note to self: read up on drug section of SR4 & Arsenal before Thursday...

The Sensei can be a tricky one....

True. You just have to be picky about your targets since you won't be getting 5+ Simple Actions per Turn to shoot people up.

Focus on bringing down the biggest threats first. Leave the Rank&File targets to the Sammy or Mage.

Also, if you can remain undetected, spending your first three SAs on TAKE AIM will result in 3 extra dice, which makes that single headshot much more likely.

After reading the ultrasound entry, I have the feeling that it just works like echolocation with the difference that it displays the shape of the object instead of a signature, but it is also somewaht reduced, since it won't work through barriers (like glass).
