If you've been around Dumpshock for awhile you've probably noticed that the same questions pop up on a weekly or semi-weekly basis. Being as there is no FAQ around here (tho we do have a FUQ) I thought it might be helpful for new players and new Dumpshockers if we compiled a list of the top ten questions, link to some of the numerous answer treads and/or post answers here.
If you have a favorite answer thread or standard answer to share, please quote the relevant question and post your link or *concise* answer below. (Exception: lets not rehash question #3 here). Also, please note that I mean no offense to noobs. As an aside, if you are new to Dumpshock you would be well served to familiarize yourself with the Search Function. Its not what you would call "user friendly" but with a little effort you *can* make it work. ----------------------------------- TOP TEN QUESTIONS NOOBS POST EVERY OTHER WEEK: #1.) Explain the Matrix / Where can I find Matrix examples? -- A: LINK LINK LINK LINK #2.) When does [super sweet new book] come out? -- A: LINK LINK #3.) What [movie/book/comic book/greeting card/etc] reminds you of SR? -- A: LINK LINK LINK #4.) How much do runners make for a typical run? -- A: LINK LINK #5.) Perhaps we should link to the last attempt at a centralized linking page to frequent questions.

There's nothing more exciting for a newb than having his first topic linkied in an unofficial FAQ-sort-of-thing... Its necessary though and I'm glad folks do it for us "newbs". Shadowrun is a hideously massive game with rules that are a bit tough to comprehend. My group is still confused by plenty of the concepts and we're working hard to understand it. What I need is all of the rules pertaining to a concept in one place so it easy to get all of the information I need. You know, instead of stashed in different books or different sections of the main book. I guess I can do it myself, compile all the info and shove it into a windows help file. |

Those are always cute. If we had the old forums, we could probably go back about 5 deep and open a hole in space/time. Sort of like a bad star trekk episode...ummm I mean movie....no both! I'm not bitter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sarcastic.gif) |

All the "search results" links are mega-broke.
Just FYI. |

Those 10 Topics should all be perma-stickied. I'd also recommend a "PC Critique" sticky thread just to keep all those in one place. Not that I mind reading y'alls Kung Fu Hacker Adept Delta Force Assassin Min Max concepts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

#2.) When does [super sweet new book] come out? -- A: http://www.amazon.com http://www.shadowrun4.com/products/index.php Because I haven't typed this message enough lately: Catalyst Game Labs provides street dates for books when they reach our warehouse. We do not provide tentative release dates prior to that time, as historically no good can come of it. |

IMO, there should be a kind of Critique thread.
I notice while some critique pages get pages of replies, others get hundreds of views and not one reply. Everyone does critiques, from new to even vet members like myself who might be trying a few new things out they are unfamiliar with will toss one up to see if they are squared away. (For example, I rarely play social/tech types, so if I had a character with those aspect, he'd be going up on the wall to make sure I got all the skills I needed.) If they were all in one thread, folks might get more help they need or want. Sometimes they get lost with nary a reply, or not enough to actually help the person(and with no replies the person might think they did something wrong, when usually it seems to be the case they nailed it and there's nothing to say.) The only drawback is that one thread for critiques might have characters get lost in other ways; since there would be a whole lot of characters in one thread they'd have to be kept track of. |
