Shadowrun has been CONFIRMED for the new 2nd gen Xbox.

It will, there are alot of shadowrun fans in microsoft who have been pushing this game for a long time. It almost got made for the xbox.

I'm just not going to buy a system when I won't get everything out of it. Xbox 360 and PS3 are designed for HDTV, but compatible with standard TV with the normal loss of definition for the down grade. I'm not going to pay porsche prices if I con only drive it at hospital speeds.

That's one hell of a naive statement to make, considering gaming culture has been geared more and more towards adults in the past decade. The only system that even bothers to try and appeal to kids specifically these day is the Game Cube, and even then it has its share of more adult games.

But the statement was refering to the quality of the system. The 360 is going to clock in at having a 3.6 Ghz or so processor. That's all well and good, the PS3's got that too... except it has four of them. The raw power of the PS3 is going to make owning a 360 laughable, and now I'll have to buy one to play a new SR game, that's frustrating.

I think the more you read about Xbox 360 and PS3, the less you'll be able to make statements like "PS3 is gonna make Xbox look like a kid's toy". I'd suggest:

Are you honestly suggesting Microsoft is NOT actively trying to sell their product to children? Are you suggesting Microsoft sells significantly more XBoxes to the 18+ crowd than the 12-18 crowd?

Actually, i'm going to go with DH here, in that it's a nieve statement. The video game indsustry, as a whole, and as a trend, has "grown up" with it's primary user base, generally, males, now in their 20's, that have literally GROWN UP with a console. I have owned a console since then NES first came out, when i was about 4 or 5 years old, in comparison, i dont think it was until i was 10 or so when we got our first computer and i was playing computer games as well. I have generally owned atleast two "current gen" systems, at any given point. I haf both the snes and Sega genesis, as well as a system, that i cant honestly remember the name of, that we bought at sears i think it was, that used some sort of disk technology that i think was propretiary, and the system quickly went bottoms up.

I had the PS one, the only time i can think of that i didnt have a competing system, primarily, because there wasn't one, the snes was getting late into it's cycle, the Xbox wasn't out, neither was the DS. i now own an xbox, ps2, and i just recently bought a PSP.

The point is, that i am not alone (hell, i have a 30 something friend who has all of the home systems), and to say that it is a childs toy is nieve, as they do market MORE towards adult aged than they do to childern. the only console that doesnt, as has been said, is the DS.

Of course, gaming is being driven more by software than hardware nowadays, so the operating systems are probably going to be more important. Not to mention the quality of the individual games.

That comment seemed pretty funny to me as well. Very ironic. DH, the irony seems lost on you. Yes, adults play consoles, probably even more than kids do nowadays, but to suggest that consoles aren't kid's toys (as well as adult's toys)? Well, that's just plain silly.

Shadowrun for the xbox 360! Yet another piece of hardware I'm going to have to buy. And of course now I'll need an HDTV, and surround sound klipsch speakers...and apparently a second job.

This must be the SOTA curve coming back to bite an SR GM in the ass.

And as far as Xbox's being childrens toy's, mine run's linux, and Media Center. It's definitely transcended the level of Tonka Trucks and Mazinger figures.

I would like to point out that when Splinter Cell first came out it was billed as a FPS. I think most of us would agree that a Splinter Cell like game could be very Shadowrunnish.

Can anybody confirm:

a) whether it will be available for PC, and

b) whether it will be Live-capable?

Either would be good; the second would be especially sweet. I'm so tired of having to play some D&D knockoff to get an RPG fix (there are no non-creepy pencil and dice players in my area, so the net is the only refuge for me).

Gamespy doesn't have a PC version listed. Since it's a Microsoft console, any PC version would probably come out at least a year later, to avoid competing with the Xbox version.

Actually, most XBox games that do come out with a PC version come out within a few months of the Console release, if not day and date with it. Some games don't get a PC release, especially if they are more "Console-oriented", specifically I'm thinking Crimson Skies, MechAssault 1&2, and Fable. All 3 can be done on the PC, but they're all really designed to work with a controller and would be awkward on a keyboard/mouse set up.

Other games, such as Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 got pretty close together release dates. Halo, on the other hand, was released for the computer a good deal later than the XBox release.

I'm actualy blanking on other X-box specific exclusives here... Damn near everything else i can think of, especially stuff that had PC and Xbox versions was also released on the PS2 or Gamecube, so that's not an entirely fair copmarison, and in many cases the PC version was released at the same time or even earlier...

Fable is coming to the PC. It really depends on the game and if the company that made it thinks its worth porting to the PC. If it is really successful, or the company making it chooses to cause there huge (Bioware) it will be out for the PC.

Since they are labeling it as a FPS (for now) and most of the more popular FPS games get PC and Xbox release, its a good bet we will see it for the PC eventually.

Ahh, didn;t know that Fable was coming out on PC. Course, been a while since I was a Gamestop employee now, so I'm out of the loop a bit, especially since I don;t really play many video games.

That could actually be pretty cool, espeically if it's moddable like Morrowind was. Fable was neat, but a bit short and shallow on gameplay. I have high opes for Fable 2 though.

One thing that may have been pointed out. (I just scanned the list) is that Microsoft may not necessarily finish the game. I'm guessing they're somewhere in the first stages of development. This is where they do the story boards, animations, some programming and start working out the nuts and bolts. There's no guarantee that it will get green lit for final production. As I understand it they have to go before the Director or VP of game development (I don't remember the exact title) and get authorization based on what they put together. This isn't the first game that's been put forward for Shadowrun. A few years ago Randy Millholland pointed out that they had plans for a SR FPS that got shit canned when the code was too clunky. I think we've still got a ways to go before we hear anything on the project. Look at Warhammer online from GW. They poured tons of cash into that and then canceled the project. I'd love to see a FPS for the Xbox or PC but we're still a long ways away from a final beta release. Mike Pondsmith worked for MSoft and can tell you all the trials and tribulations of game design. Anyways just my $0.02.

Slight correction... Actually, the SR FPS got shit canned by FASA, not MS. From what Mike M told us at Gen Con that year, they had approved one game, and the demo's they were shown a year later bore no resemblance to that game, and barely resembled Shadowrun. He didn't go into any real specifics though, but basically it was FASA's decision to pull the plug, not MS's.
