CHANGE LOG: -03SEP08.Opened IC Banter Thread and added Posting/RP Guidelines -03SEP08.Updated Character Listing
Daily Message: IC Banter thread is now open (The Break Room). Feel free to dive in and start posting IC.
POSTING/RP GUIDELINES:[ Spoiler ]
I'll make better guidelines soon but here's the basics:
-Disable your signatures when you post, it keeps things pretty
->>>2100 HRS, 06JUN2071: LOCATION>>>. Let us know where and when you are at. Use the light blue I've used, it makes it easy to read.
-Feel free to pose NPC's like meter maids, generic crowds, waiters, etc. We can always retconn it later if we have too.
-Don't feel obligated to write the great American novel. I, and I certainly hope you too, will endeavor to use appropriate grammar/spellcheck. At the same time I don't have a huge woody for 50 pages descriptions. I used to GM an SR MUX and I've had my share of sprawling description of just how awesome a character looks in his tight leather pants. I'm over it. I appreciate a good @desc like anyone, and if the spirits moves you... but don't feel obligated to throw down WALL-OF-TEXT every post.
-I'm not a big fan of "thought" posts. Show me, don't tell me. Same goes for flashbacks. That's a personal RP preference, if you all want to change it I'm open to reconsider my position.
-Fuck or frag. I don't give devil rats hoop. If my NPC's use frag, drek, or decker, it usually means they're a little older and have been on the runner scene for awhile.
CHARGEN GUIDELINES:[ Spoiler ]
-300 BP
-Soft Max Avail 8. Items above that subject to GM approval. Things like rating 2 cerebral boosters or contacts with vision mag and thermographic will most likely be approved. Your Ares Alpha with underbarrel laser grenade launcher might not be. Approval is more likely if you have an interesting story behind why you have restricted gear.
-Everyone gets the negative quality "Day Job" for "free". In other words you have 10 extra bp to play around with and a 2.5k a month paycheck. This doesn't count against your total negative/positive quality balance. You can take Day Job at the 15 point value and it will represent that Animal Control has become a full time occupation for you.
-If you play a SINless be aware that your monthly pay will be lower. Your boss takes a cut as a "processing fee" for covering your ass.
-These are guidelines, everything is negotiable as long as you can convince me that it would be fun and fair. I've been known to let things slide base solely on how awesome an idea is.

50 Questions *I generally let people tweak their characters for the first run or so you will have an opportunity to change your character is you didn't allocate a resource just right or a portion of your background needs some tuning.
GAME INFORMATION:[ Spoiler ]
Not So Subtle Madness is a game that is chiefly inspired by such towering works of fiction as "Sean of the Dead" and the Street Sweeper thread on SA. It is survival horror as only the Sixth world could provide and while I expect to keep it dramatic and exciting; I desire tongues to be set firmly in cheek. This is the story about seven "unique" people who come together to work the graveyard shift at a crappy city job. What they make of that crappy job is up to you all, the players. Do you want to sell your services to runners? Do you want to sell runners out to corps sec and Lone Star? Do you want to plumb the underground and uncover it's secrets? Do you want to see how many ghouls you can kill in a single combat pass? Do you want to sell the wares out of corpses you find? Do you want to run drugs out of the back of your truck? All these routes are available to you because you work nights and you don't get paid all that well.
GM Notes: I'm a pretty free wheeling guy and my games tend to be somewhat cinematic. Gaming is fun, GMing is something I do because it's technically gaming. I don't do unkillable NPC's, if you guys come up with a way to kill my Badmotherfucker in a single round while he's doing a monologue about how evil he is... well shit, I guess he should have been shooting instead of talking.
A couple of restrictions:
1. No player killing. Conflict between characters is acceptable provided it's fun for everyone and adds to the overall story. Conflict between characters and players because your character is a mongoloid retard that everyone wants to kill is not. Even though this isn't your typical Run I expect that you'll make characters that would logically work with the team as a whole.
2. No rape. I'm not going to roleplay rape. It may come into play as a part of a characters background but it's not something we're going to explore in any detail.
More to be added as needed. This has never really been a problem but I like to get it out of the way before someone slings me their 300 bp "Serial Sex Offender" and a detailed description of what he/she/it does to their victims. Yeah... no.
The Gig [IC]:[ Spoiler ]
Municipal Animal Control (MAC) is a division of Public Works which is actually part of a subcontract that... look it's not very interesting. Ya'll work for the city which really means ya'll work for the faceless suits in some office in Hong Kong or Zurich-Orbital or... something. All you really need to know is that payday's the first and the fifteenth and it's in certified cred so why are you asking so many questions?
Jobs easy, we get calls from police, fire, private citizens, and corporate contracts. Provided it isn't a wendingo outbreak, yeah we've had a few of those, we suit up-
*hooks a finger at some very worn looking powder blue coveralls*
-and roll out to the call. I er... haven't exactly figured out who's going to be your training supervisor but we'll have to see how the schedules work out. Anyways you all will be working under him or her and they'll show you what needs to get done. Mostly it's a lot of spraying and dropping sensors and shit for the monitoring systems. We usually do buildings around the DMZ near Auburn and what not but we get into the sewers a lot too. More often than I'd like now that we've contracted with the Ork Underground... but hey, their nuyen's good so what the fuck right?
I'm sure you're all eager fucking awakened beavers about carrying a gun and shit. Yay, we're authorized to carry sidearms. SIDEARMS, that doesn't mean you get to bust out you're daddies AK-97 from the war and spray ex-ex ammo around some busted apartment complex. You'll be issued a Colt Manhunter and probably a couple of 990's. Typically the city is willing to overlook some uh... "variation" in our weapons locker provided that we don't run around the streets waving them around like powder blue shadowrunners. So don't get too excited. If you run into something that a Manhunter and 990 can't kill or scare away I don't have a fucking clue why you're not running away and calling for backup. You're not technically supposed to shoot at PEOPLE but you gotta do what you gotta do to protect yourself. We have a pretty good relation with the cops and corps sec so you'll generally be alright.
Eh... let's see. Most of our runs are for devil rats, big surprise right? But we're authorized to do ghouls and other non-sapients. Yeah I know ghouls are supposed to be sapient and all that but if they leap out and try to chew your face off feel free to dump some buckshot into them. Assholes. Anyways there's some weird shit that lives out at the sites we work so keep your fucking suits on and replace your respirators regularly. You get bit by ANYTHING you let me know so we can get you to the clinic. Our medical plan ain't great but it covers on the job injuries.
Alright, that's all the official shit. This job ain't exactly fun but it has it's moments. Don't get killed out there because you think you're Johnny Goddamn Runner and are all balls and bullets but not brains. You're shift starts at 8 o'clock tomorrow night, don't be fucking late.
The World: [ Spoiler ]
NSSM will take place in 2071 in and around the Seattle Metroplex.
Last year the Ork Underground endured a terrible fire that was initially blamed on shoddy construction. Later, it was revealed that the fire was the work of Alamo 20k and various Humanis Policlub affiliates. Regardless, the OU endured and rebuilding efforts have been underway for quite some time now. Dwarf trade groups and OU leadership reconciled their differences in the aftermath of the fires and dwarf contractors are now a fairly common fixture in the better traveled parts of the OU. The OU is a more open place now and the “tourist areas have expanded deeper into it's passages. The word "Underground Renaissance" has been bandied around recently. This is especially on after the critically acclaimed release of the uncredited poem, "Ashes". "Ashes", written partially in Or'Zet, has been heralded as the "Howl" of the Ork Underground a word that cast crystal clear the essence of an entire culture. The fact that no one has yet to lay claim to authoring has only increased it's appeal as speculation runs rampant through the Matrix.
Other than that clarification, canon SR4. We'll fill it in as needed.
