I thought it would make for some interesting game play, it seems VERY likely to come up during game play and makes the use of those especially difficult for my character. I'm not sure if it is common or uncommon but what the hey.

Ok, here is the order of initiatives. When it is your turn, write in the OOC thread what you want your character to do and make the appropriate dice checks. After everything is squared, make a post in the IC thread describing your character's actions.
Opposition Johnson's Men Snake Mace Johnson Cryptic Opposition Heather C.J. Opposition I will make an IC post for the opposition and the Johnson's men right now and then we can get started with everyone else. If this seems like a really stupid way of doing this let me know and we can change it. |

I worked up a map of Nitti's that might help us a little. Watch your emails.

Mace reaches under his jacket and feels around then squints his eyes tight and scruches his face into a look of extreme concentration and wishes REALLY REALLY hard that he'd brought his SMG.
Otherwise he'll hold his action and wait for C.J. to call the tune. |

Sounds good Cedric. If you want to hold your action, you don't have to wait for your turn, just announce it now and you can jump in if you feel the need.

When you say announce it, does that mean I do an IC post or an OOC post? I'm not sure how you want combat posting handled.

Well, I have fewer players, but I was doing it per initative pass. with each player outlining OOC his intentions. So for instance:
Cryptic Intiative Pass 13 Simple Action 1: Pulls Heavy Pistol Simple Action 2: Taking cover behind chair and crying like a baby. Intiative Pass 3 Simple action 1: Fire HP (attack roll in spoilers) Simple Action 2: FIre HP (attack roll in spoilers) each Character carries those out, the GM posts what the NPCs are doing, allowing the PCs to respond if need be (damage soaking etc) Than the GM makes 1 post IC, including the entire Combat phase. |

I preferred it that way, because you get to see the whole combat move in one continuous flow, instead of seeming disjointed. Its similar to what I would do in a table top game, with the players explaining their actions and rolling dice, and than the GM describing the outcomes.
But if someone has a better idea, i might steal it for my own game as well! |

I like Cryptic's system, it moves the initiative along. And don't get me wrong, I'd like to try it this way. But, it seems that one problem occurs when things might happen with the faster players that changes the lower initiative posts.
i.e., Cryptic just shot a guy's head off, C.J. was gonna rip that guys eyeballs out with his fingernails. No head = no eyeballs to rip out, how's C.J. gonna sate his bloodlust now? This problem might also be more evident when people start rolling 21's and 31's on their init. How has that worked in your game Sicarius? In my PBP game elsewhere, I'll use PM's to ask for actions for each person's turn, then post IC what happens. It sometimes drags, which is annoying. |

agree, it might slow things down to have players need to come back and change their initative passes, but that's what i'd have them do. But my games tend to be brief decisive violence which rarely last more than one combat turn, where as if we are in a long term fire fight lasting full mintues. (possible in a mercenary campaign i suppose) it might not be that effective. <Shrug>
Your on your own for decision making Mush. |

I tend to like to post my own character's combat actions, simply I enjoy the writing that and think its a good opportunity for character building.

At the moment, Heather is going to go with the Johnsons boys, also drawing her hand guns as well.

Ok, I will write the IC actions for everyone except those who wish to write their own. Right now that includes Cedric. Anyone else should chime in now. I will post for Snake and Heather later today.

BTW, Cryptic is pulling his Browning Max-Power (Simple Action).
Can I delay the second action or do i have to delay the whole turn? if I can, Delay the second simple action. |

If I'm the only hold out then just tack me in as well, I don't want to slow things down and I don't care that much.

Anyone who wants to write their own IC posts still needs to ok everything with me. I will tell them when to post. This may slow us down, but I think it will work out.
After re-reading the delayed actions rules. I am going to declare that you have to delay your entire action if you choose to delay at all. So Cryptic drawing his pistol uses a simple action, but since you do not wish for him to do anything else, he is done until the next combat phase. So what I'm getting at is that you can either delay all or nothing. |
