Anyone interested in playing shadowrun over from the begining? Think of this as an expanded version of living in the shadows, you start low powered and gradually work your way up, through shadowrun history. One key thing is the ability to seperate player vs character knowledge.
The nitty gritty: - set in october of 2050 - 100 build points or 350 karma - going to be using the simplifed rules for decking a rigging from Mr. Johnson's little black book - Regular ammunition is reduced to 10% of book cost - SR3, SR Companion, and SSG lifestyle edges and flaws - Max edges and flaws is +/- 3 - No burst/full auto, each round fired will be rolled individually - Grounding and Spelllocks are back - Max Avail 6 - Rayguns weapons are allowed, GM discression - Drain codes are Force, not Force/2 Anyone still interested? |

Oooo this sounds like fun, going all old school. Count me in.
Because of the date, are there any limits on what gear (cyber/spells) we have acess to? Or is this case by case basis. |

Alright for character creation, SR3, Shadowrun Companion, and Sprawl Survival Guide will be used. Some of the gear from the 3rd edition book will not be allowed: Bone lacing, Image Link, Protective Covers, Reaction Enhancers, and Reflex Triggers.
Cyber limbs are half price, Strength enhancement are 10K (for 1-3) and 20 (for 4+) The only thing that will be initally allowed from Man and Machine is the chemistry section. (As the time line progresses, the cyber and bioware will be introduced.) Due to starting the game in October of 2050, gear from the Street Samuria Catalog will be available with the exception that customized cyberware won't be allowed at character gen. Is there any interest in me running an NPC decker? Characters will be build with either 100 build points or 350 karma. this is a lower powered game. Please post character concepts here to let everyone else see whos putting together what. Characters can be sent to me at Chance359@gmail.com |

Character Concept
Name: Jimmy Chou A physad with a more than healthy love of 20th Century flat-screen vids from Hong Kong. He's fresh from the streets of Seattle's Chinatown where he's had to learn the art of the gun to survive Triad warfare. Some make fun of him for using revolvers in this day and age, but he can quickly prove that six-shots is more than he needs. Of course, when things get up close and personal, Jimmy's alway willing to show what his collapsible staff and some Hawarang-do Kung Fu can do. |

Oh, absolutely.
Name: James Drake Formerly of the Crimson Streets go-gang on the outskirts of the Redmond Barrens, James' life changed drastically when the gang was hired to serve as assasins for a corp to get rid of a troublesome group of shadowrunners. The runner group shot their way out of the ambush and proceeded to absolutely flatten the Crimson Streets, impressing James deeply and inspiring a change of profession. He decided to become a shadowrunner himself. Despite his origins as street trash, his relentless drive for self-improvement and newfound appreciation for subtlety and professionalism has impressed many of his associates. He studies The Art of War, Jane's Firearms, and The Anarchist's Cookbook, and has begun to visit a firing range and dojo. He views his mental image of a 'true' shadowrunner and street samurai to be an ideal to work towards, and almost laughs out loud when people call shadowrunning a dirty profession: he's seen- and lived- far, far worse. |

for those of us not familiar with it...
i have a vague understanding of grounding and spell locks (grounding lets you do unpleasant things to people via the astral plane, provided they or something on their person is astral, spell locks are somewhat similar to sustaining focii in some way AFAICT), but a little more detail on how it works would be nice (again, for those of us who haven't been around that long). i might submit something, i'll have to think on it for a bit though... |

Sounds like a good time. When do you want concepts by and how many players do you think you'll take?
Also, are characters first come, first serve or will they be chosen later? I'm interested, but don't think i'll be able to put anything worthwhile together until this weekend. |

SR2 BBB, p 138
"Spell locks are a special foci that establish a link with astral space and channel astral energy into a spell, allowing it to be sustained without the casting magician's concentration or concern." Basically it lets you hold a spell without having to sustain it. It costs 45,000 and one karma to bind. Grounding is sending a spell through an active focus and having it manifest on the physical plane. |

so the spell locks work on any force spell, and any spell? or do you need, for example, a mob mind spell lock to sustain mob mind? |

Character Concept:
Name: Alex Campbell An ex-detective, Alex is a Ork who knows how to handle the scum on the street. After 3 years on the force, he has decided to go for a promotion. All he cares about is the money and seeing how bent most cops are these days, he figured what the hell. After a few calls to some people who owed him a favour or three he entered into a new life with a new face. Alex is a straight up bright guy with a great deal of patience but quick to anger. If he is not snooping about looking for this or that, he is taking down targets with information burnt out of their best friend. His interrogations methods are brutal but always successful. |

Spell locks are not specialised on specific spells, right. |

Henry Menz, age 15
Dwarf Decker / Electrician Student by day, hacker by night... Henry practically grew up inside the Matrix. A slight, frail boy who's primary hobby appears to be ingesting Soykaf and sleeping through third period Study hall. Leading a double life is starting to take its toll on young Henry, as normal life bores him, he is headed towards dropping out of high school because it is too mundane. He currently works side jobs to pay back his debt for his gear, and maybe even get a tidy sum stacked away for college. |

Ellaine Elleste, Elf, Female, 19
Rockstar Singer/ Mage. Ellaine was brought up on the outskirts of Redmund where things are not quite as bad and the cops do actually turn up once a month. It was always nice when they came driving by. The neighbourhood would wake up by going dead quiet; it was disturbingly serene. Things were better but by no means were they good. Fortunately her parents were good hard working people. They had Sins unlike a lot of people in their neighbourhood and earnt a decent living. Ellaine always appeared to be a good girl generally doing what she was told, but secretly she stole money to get high and party as often as possible. She always loved to sing and dance on stage at school and at 12 formed her first school rock group. This developed into a passion that she would keep close to her heart for the rest of her life. Her schooling failed because of her dedication to her music. When she became awakened at 15 her life went into chaos as there was no-one around her who cared or knew about how to guide her. The visions she now had she described with rage and confusion in her songs. At 17 her own demo chips were reviewed and she got the part as a backing singer/dancer for the Concrete dreams. When she first got up on stage with Concrete Dreams, she was noticed to be magically active. It was clear to those that saw her that she had a talent that had not been checked. Ellaine was not open at first however to anyone interferring with her life or her new fame, but after a little pestering she gave in as in her heart she only wanted release from the madness from the confusion of the astral world that she would slip in and out of unwilfully. Ellaine is a cleaver and charasmatic girl. She stands at 5'8" and is beautiful in face and body. She is of a slim (and perhaps a little skinny) build with long brown hair (to the middle of her back) and green-hazel eyes. Her talents lie obviously in singing from her natural charasma she could make you bet on a dead horse. Since she was taught how to control her magical talent she has focused on summoning and control manipulation/illusion spells. Ellaine makes a great face with a talent for messing with your head if you really decide to get on her bad side (not necessarily magically). She is flirtacious and forward thinking. How she got in the shadowrun scene is none of your business :D |

I'll be taking submission of concepts over the next week, with a final deadline being next Monday (Nov 14).
I hate saying no outright, but I set those guide lines too keep the power level of the game low. My suggestion would be to play around with the numbers and see if you can up with something you're comfortable playing. Jared_Connely, Lindt, Musashi Forever, and Toptomcat: all look good so far. Mystweaver, its up to you which one you go with. |
