Anyone interested in playing shadowrun over from the begining? Think of this as an expanded version of living in the shadows, you start low powered and gradually work your way up, through shadowrun history. One key thing is the ability to seperate player vs character knowledge.

The nitty gritty:
- set in october of 2050

- 100 build points or 350 karma

- going to be using the simplifed rules for decking a rigging from Mr. Johnson's little black book

- Regular ammunition is reduced to 10% of book cost

- SR3, SR Companion, and SSG lifestyle edges and flaws

- Max edges and flaws is +/- 3

- No burst/full auto, each round fired will be rolled individually

- Grounding and Spelllocks are back

- Max Avail 6

- Rayguns weapons are allowed, GM discression

- Drain codes are Force, not Force/2

Anyone still interested?
Musashi Forever
I'm interested. Sounds like fun. cool.gif
Frater Inominatus
Absolutely.
Sicarius
I'm interested for sure. How long do we have to send a character? (i'm getting Man and Machine and Companion in the mail soon and i'd like to use them)
Lindt
Oooo this sounds like fun, going all old school. Count me in.

Because of the date, are there any limits on what gear (cyber/spells) we have acess to? Or is this case by case basis.
Musashi Forever
Wow, time to pul lout the good ole Street Samurai Catalog and Shadowtech.
Mystweaver
Im eager to get back into PbP so count me in for sure...

Is the 100 build points or 350 karma in addition to the 125build points ya get to start with?
Chance359
Alright for character creation, SR3, Shadowrun Companion, and Sprawl Survival Guide will be used. Some of the gear from the 3rd edition book will not be allowed: Bone lacing, Image Link, Protective Covers, Reaction Enhancers, and Reflex Triggers.

Cyber limbs are half price, Strength enhancement are 10K (for 1-3) and 20 (for 4+)

The only thing that will be initally allowed from Man and Machine is the chemistry section. (As the time line progresses, the cyber and bioware will be introduced.)

Due to starting the game in October of 2050, gear from the Street Samuria Catalog will be available with the exception that customized cyberware won't be allowed at character gen.

Is there any interest in me running an NPC decker?

Characters will be build with either 100 build points or 350 karma. this is a lower powered game.

Please post character concepts here to let everyone else see whos putting together what.

Characters can be sent to me at Chance359@gmail.com

Character Concept

Name: Jimmy Chou

A physad with a more than healthy love of 20th Century flat-screen vids from Hong Kong. He's fresh from the streets of Seattle's Chinatown where he's had to learn the art of the gun to survive Triad warfare. Some make fun of him for using revolvers in this day and age, but he can quickly prove that six-shots is more than he needs. Of course, when things get up close and personal, Jimmy's alway willing to show what his collapsible staff and some Hawarang-do Kung Fu can do.

Toptomcat
Oh, absolutely.

Name: James Drake
Formerly of the Crimson Streets go-gang on the outskirts of the Redmond Barrens, James' life changed drastically when the gang was hired to serve as assasins for a corp to get rid of a troublesome group of shadowrunners. The runner group shot their way out of the ambush and proceeded to absolutely flatten the Crimson Streets, impressing James deeply and inspiring a change of profession. He decided to become a shadowrunner himself.
Despite his origins as street trash, his relentless drive for self-improvement and newfound appreciation for subtlety and professionalism has impressed many of his associates. He studies The Art of War, Jane's Firearms, and The Anarchist's Cookbook, and has begun to visit a firing range and dojo. He views his mental image of a 'true' shadowrunner and street samurai to be an ideal to work towards, and almost laughs out loud when people call shadowrunning a dirty profession: he's seen- and lived- far, far worse.

for those of us not familiar with it...

i have a vague understanding of grounding and spell locks (grounding lets you do unpleasant things to people via the astral plane, provided they or something on their person is astral, spell locks are somewhat similar to sustaining focii in some way AFAICT), but a little more detail on how it works would be nice (again, for those of us who haven't been around that long).

i might submit something, i'll have to think on it for a bit though...
Ninja Please
Sounds like a good time. When do you want concepts by and how many players do you think you'll take?

Also, are characters first come, first serve or will they be chosen later? I'm interested, but don't think i'll be able to put anything worthwhile together until this weekend.
Chance359
SR2 BBB, p 138

"Spell locks are a special foci that establish a link with astral space and channel astral energy into a spell, allowing it to be sustained without the casting magician's concentration or concern."

Basically it lets you hold a spell without having to sustain it. It costs 45,000 and one karma to bind.

Grounding is sending a spell through an active focus and having it manifest on the physical plane.
Jared_Connerly
I am a sucker for punishment... so I will see if I can find a decker in the vault grinbig.gif

so the spell locks work on any force spell, and any spell? or do you need, for example, a mob mind spell lock to sustain mob mind?

Character Concept:

Name: Alex Campbell

An ex-detective, Alex is a Ork who knows how to handle the scum on the street. After 3 years on the force, he has decided to go for a promotion. All he cares about is the money and seeing how bent most cops are these days, he figured what the hell. After a few calls to some people who owed him a favour or three he entered into a new life with a new face. Alex is a straight up bright guy with a great deal of patience but quick to anger. If he is not snooping about looking for this or that, he is taking down targets with information burnt out of their best friend. His interrogations methods are brutal but always successful.

Spell locks are not specialised on specific spells, right.
Lindt
No name or anything yet, but Im looking at a Dog Shamen conjurer. Im thinking along the lines of a golden retriver dog shamen.
Mystweaver
Lol Lindt... I would like to have you as a party member smile.gif

Im always loosing my keys!
Frater Inominatus
any chance you'll relax the rules enough for a gnome phys ad?
Toptomcat
When do you want the finished characters?
Lindt
A slightly more in depth flush out.

Irish-Amerid dog shamenic conjurer, whos got some good face skills, cant so much as check his Email, and has much more use for the hand cannon he carries as a tool to brandish then to actually shoot at someone with.
Jared_Connerly
Henry Menz, age 15
Dwarf Decker / Electrician

Student by day, hacker by night... Henry practically grew up inside the Matrix. A slight, frail boy who's primary hobby appears to be ingesting Soykaf and sleeping through third period Study hall.

Leading a double life is starting to take its toll on young Henry, as normal life bores him, he is headed towards dropping out of high school because it is too mundane. He currently works side jobs to pay back his debt for his gear, and maybe even get a tidy sum stacked away for college.

Ellaine Elleste, Elf, Female, 19

Rockstar Singer/ Mage.

Ellaine was brought up on the outskirts of Redmund where things are not quite as bad and the cops do actually turn up once a month. It was always nice when they came driving by. The neighbourhood would wake up by going dead quiet; it was disturbingly serene. Things were better but by no means were they good. Fortunately her parents were good hard working people. They had Sins unlike a lot of people in their neighbourhood and earnt a decent living. Ellaine always appeared to be a good girl generally doing what she was told, but secretly she stole money to get high and party as often as possible.
She always loved to sing and dance on stage at school and at 12 formed her first school rock group. This developed into a passion that she would keep close to her heart for the rest of her life. Her schooling failed because of her dedication to her music. When she became awakened at 15 her life went into chaos as there was no-one around her who cared or knew about how to guide her. The visions she now had she described with rage and confusion in her songs. At 17 her own demo chips were reviewed and she got the part as a backing singer/dancer for the Concrete dreams.

When she first got up on stage with Concrete Dreams, she was noticed to be magically active. It was clear to those that saw her that she had a talent that had not been checked. Ellaine was not open at first however to anyone interferring with her life or her new fame, but after a little pestering she gave in as in her heart she only wanted release from the madness from the confusion of the astral world that she would slip in and out of unwilfully.

Ellaine is a cleaver and charasmatic girl. She stands at 5'8" and is beautiful in face and body. She is of a slim (and perhaps a little skinny) build with long brown hair (to the middle of her back) and green-hazel eyes. Her talents lie obviously in singing from her natural charasma she could make you bet on a dead horse. Since she was taught how to control her magical talent she has focused on summoning and control manipulation/illusion spells.

Ellaine makes a great face with a talent for messing with your head if you really decide to get on her bad side (not necessarily magically). She is flirtacious and forward thinking.

How she got in the shadowrun scene is none of your business biggrin.gif

I hate saying no outright, but I set those guide lines too keep the power level of the game low. My suggestion would be to play around with the numbers and see if you can up with something you're comfortable playing.

Jared_Connely, Lindt, Musashi Forever, and Toptomcat: all look good so far. Mystweaver, its up to you which one you go with.
Mystweaver
Well im sort of coming up with a couple of concepts so that I can make an informed decision of an appropriate character to play with other concepts of other players.

Plus I sometimes just sit here watching a movie and come up with some random concept. I think if anything I will be going with Ellaine if not too many people apply for this campaign.
Toptomcat
You said Raygun's stuff was available at your discretion. Can you approve the Smith & Wesson X-Frame, the Kahr MK Series, the FN Five-seveN, the Brügger & Thomet MP9, and the Accuracy International AW50 for me?

Also, I'd very much appreciate a one-time exception to the Avail 6 rule- I'd really like a riot shield. Could I buy one, at double price perhaps?
Lindt
Looks like we are gonna have a nice slection of .50 cal wepons. I was going to ask for a Magnum Reaserch M DE50. Not that he has a pistols skill. Its big an scary, right?
Toptomcat
Oh, yeah. Not quite as big and scary as the S&W Model 500 I'm getting, but plenty big.
Jared_Connerly
While we are on the subject of guns...

http://matrix.dumpshock.com/raygun/firearm...l/sw_627pc.html

Its small, and wont hit me in the face when I pull the trigger, sounds like a winner?

I would be interested in this game. I have a low-powered character from another game that fizzled before it could go anywhere, named Viper, and it would be great to be able to play her again. Here is the concept:

Viper

Viper is a shamanic Snake sorceress, streetwise and with a good eclectic selection of spells. Not quite face-level in social skills, but could be an emergency spare.

Viper is an elven female of medium height, with a slender build.

Her hair is dyed a dark green, worn short and spikey but with a long braided ponytail. She has bright green eyes and pale skin. She usually wears a flourescent light green lipstick. She has extensive tattooing. A design of snakes coiled around vines, both green but with vivid red flowers, encircle her navel, and seem to be part of a bigger design. Her forearms are encircled with vivid metallic holofoil tattoos of shiny barbed wire, with ruby bursts that look like blood.

Viper is usually an incongruous combination of perky goth and grungy goth. Black, studded synthleather, black workboots and jeans, then something like a pink "death kitty" T-shirt. She also usually wears armbands and loop earrings (and a few other piercings) of plastic in rainbow hues. However, she can (and does) dramatically change her look quite often.

Viper is bouncy, almost hyperactive, and often says or does things to shock people or to push their buttons, usually with an impish grin. She is cute and clever, but also seems a bit fickle and shallow at times. She is a relative neophyte to the shadows, but has a minor run or so under her belt. Her main motivation seems to be picking up some quick cash to party with.
Chance359
Toptomcat: the only ones I'm going to say no to are the FN Five-seveN and the Accuracy International AW50. Also I'm going to have to say no on the Riot shield, but as soon as game play starts you can try and acquire one biggrin.gif .

Glyph, looks good.

Also mystweaver reminded me of something, you get 3D6 x 500 nuyen.

Brandon Spears

Combat Medic

Since childhood, Brandon wanted to be a doctor like his parents. He grew up comfortably, well supported by the family income, and concentrated on making his grades. He graduated 4th in his high school class, and went on to college, expecting to go on to med school when he finished.

His plan fell apart while he was away at school. His parents were tragically killed in a drunk driver accident, and without the family practice, he didn't have the money to continue. He was three years through med school when he moved to Seattle to try to find work.

Although he wasn't a licensed doctor, he was unwilling to give up his dream. He soon found a job with Alliance Health, a startup company trying to compete with DocWagon. Bradon was assigned to a HTR helicoptor unit, and became one of the best medics in the firm. During his stint as a fast-roper, Brandon discovered his apt with firearms. He grew to love his job, thriving on the thrill of combat and the stuggle between life and death.

Brandon's flight responded to a high-threat request one night. A client was involved in a running gunfight between his bodyguards and an aggressive bike gang. The helicopter was hit hard and went down, killing the client. Brandon, despite being the least wounded, lost his left arm.

The resulting litigation spelled the end for Alliance Health. Brandon stole some of his equipment before the company's assets were seized. With that, and what was left of his family's inherentance, Brandon dissapeared into the Seattle shadows.
Toptomcat
All right, then. How about a Glock 20 and Remington Model 700?
Chance359
Due to a death in the family, I will be suspending the start of this game by atleast a week. Please feel free to sumbit characters to the listed email address Chance359@gmail.com.
Toptomcat
My condolences.
Glyph
My deepest sympathies.
Lindt
Oh frowns. I give you my sympathies.

Would it be ok to post them here insted?
Mystweaver
Damn, sorry to hear it frown.gif
Chance359
Thankyou all for you thoughts.

If you want, characters can be posted in this thread.

Toptomcat: Yes on the Glock 20, and no on the Remmington 700 (try for something under a power 12 and or less than Deadly damage).

Other things, each of you will have a level 1 contact in common for free who I'll post later.

Now for a hard question, what kind of game do you want? Everyone please list atleast 2 movies that show what their looking for.
Musashi Forever
The Replacement Killers and Hellboy (LoL, that ought to mess things up proper! nyahnyah.gif )

History and what not are forthcomming.
Mystweaver
Just for the general fun-ness The Fifth Element, but strangely mixed with something like Sin City....
Mystweaver
This is a character I started playing with about 5 years ago. He is still alive and running in a game I play around table. He is now something VERY powerful (704 karma).
I would love to play him again because I would play him very differently but with a good basis of a character to get into a role that should work well with any group.

Chi-Sao: Adept Kung Fu/ Pistols specialist.

An adept of the way of the Shadow, Chi-Sao was brought up around traditional chinese guardians and has some links with the Triads in Seattle. His life on the streets has been brutal but nothing he has not been able to manage so far.

Chi-Sao is focused totally to magic and shuns the use of cyberware, though he accepts its usefulness to those that embrace it. He looks down on awakened beings that have degraded thier power with cyberware.

He knows that he is but a spec in the world but wants to make not only a name for himself as one of the best sharp shooters but also to strive to improve the well being of those who cannot stand up for themselves... if not also to make hideous amounts of cash by doing anything and everything to fund his campaign (even if that includes being quite hypocritical in methods).

I have to second Hard Boiled. It is probably the greatest, most over the top action movie in history. And I'm not joking.

Also, I'd go with Grosse Point Blank because I like quirky humor and fun, even in Shadowrun.
