So did the author who wrote the description of the Roman Catholic Church's secret vaults, whats in them and the clandestine order that protects them want to hint at the "Horrors" or is that wishful thinking on my part? More importantly as I would like to work the Vililia Evangelica into my game any one have ideas whats been going on with them sense 2064 and the release of the document written by Praetor Pedro Amato?
One can assume that the good Praetor is very dead by 2070. I would also think that the fact that such secret vaults exsist with information from previous magical cycles would have greatly surprised/upset both Tir's and many a Great Dragon who thought they had cornered the market on such knowledge. Then there is also the question of how corps or national goverment would react as well. Any how just looking for ideas as Shadowrun 4th edition has definitely got nothing in print about such at this time. |

I've got a very clear idea of where I want to take the Vigilia, how its taken to the changes in the Sixth World between 2064-70, and the breach of its secrecy.
There are no specific plans for it to feature in any of the books currently scheduled for release though. However, I am hoping to do a Vigilia-related short story for Holostreets' subscription service when its up and running (and my currently swamped schedule clears) and I do have longer term plans for it to be used in an upcoming plot. Considering that the last time I made such plans it took 3 years to realize them and have Winternight play its endgame, I'll try to post some material as soon as I get a break in my schedule. |

The Vigilia Evangelica, a secret order of the Catholic church, who have gathered and hoarded the books of blasphemies, necromancies, and magic. The curators of the Vatican's "Black Library," which contains tomes only the Pope himself may read. This trove gave the church foreknowledge of the Sixth World, and its collection is broken into four massive, hidden storehouses across the length and breadth of the globe.

The stories about the Vatican's Black Library have made the rounds for centuries...some of them are even true. As far as SR is concerned, you should check out Threats 2 and Shadows of Europe.

"Brotherhood of the Rose" with Sean Connery takes place in one of the black libraries during the "Dark Ages". I believe they even reference the movie in "Loose Alliance". In any case would seem to lend itself to some pretty good horror runs.

The book, Stromdrake. It references the book. The movie, as much as I like any movie with Sean Connery, was a pale fascimile on serious meds by comparison.

AH,
I stand corrected they do reference the novel, not the movie. I have never read the book so the movie is what popped to mind. Probably should go dig up a copy for flavor. |

very rarely do the movie give the book full justice. the lotr movies are close, most will say perfect. it comes down the the media mostly. a situation you can use page after page setting up and describing have to be taken care of fast in a movie or it will be to long to watch...

:wobble: Those that call them perfect need to talk to my husband & his father. (Weeks after every release, hashing & re-hashing what they got wrong-elves at Helm's Deep? The horror!) I would have to agree - always use the book if you have a choice. ON the other hand, if you're just looking to set a mood, a movie playing in the background is kinda nice. I've always been curious about these Vatican libraries. Are there references anywhere else (not necessarily SR)? |

The Vatican Library is of course a real thing, here's a brief history of it.
The vatican has the second largest collection of pornography on Earth, which is pretty cool. -Frank |

meh. i can deal with elves. it didn't happen at all in the books, but it's no biggie. and of course the rest of the rangers never came in the movie... that was kinda odd too. but what really ticked me off is what they did to Faramir. |

The Library of Congress. The Vatican has a copy of every item specifically banned. The Library of Congress has a copy of every work with a registered (rather than implied) copyright. The Vatican has been around for a long time. By some reckonings it is the longest running human organization that is still extant. And that means that at some point or another they've gotten around to banning just about anything. But the LoC of the United States has more pr0n. -Frank |

Frag the Elves. They left out Tom Bombadil. That is unforgivable. |
