Because some of us like Shadowrun's setting so much we keep our games "canon," or "pure," or whatever you want to call it. Or, rather, we try to. I don't get it... who are you insulting? And is eating annoying people such a bad thing?

edit: Oh, you're insulting the freelancers. And how do you freelance for Shadowrun, anyway? Writing for Shadowrun seems pretty specialized; it seems to have little application outside of writing for fantasy or cyberpunk.

Uhm, I didn't get Critias' post as insulting, even though I don't necessarily agree with him.

In short, no matter what was done, it was going to piss somebody off. If SR4 had been the stuff of SL James' dreams, causing him to focus his considerable energy and free time (when he wasn't playing, of course) toward evangelizing from the rooftops about how wonderful it was instead of being insulting and vulgar about how much he hates it, then somebody else would have popped up to take his place with their own slate of complaints. It's human nature. Some folks aren't happy unless they're complaining about something. (And that's not to say that people don't have valid complaints. But there is a subset of humanity that seems to draw energy from bitching and negativity, and sometimes it's hard to pick out their legitimate complaints from their efforts to do this.)

You can't please everybody. The goal is to please most people, piss off as few as possible, and bring in new blood. And as long as the game is selling well, that suggests it's going in the right direction.
