Ok so a real steak is considered a luxury in Shadowrun but what else should be considered top of the line food?

Hehe just finished making and eating a 4 cheese 3 meat 4 egg omelet while eating it this thought on food in Shadowrun hit me.

Add to that I was looking at the box of candy bars across the room and well there ya go for my top 5 choices.

Now on to the dragon while this could be considered a luxury food item as well as other things. (magic types would love some dragon parts I would think)

There is the problem of getting said items from a dragon so that alone says to me high end food items.

The problem comes in not getting caught kind of like eating humans today it will more than likely make you hunted by the dragons themselves.

Something I don't think anyone would want to have happen to them.

As for other awakened animals well most of them I would think you could hunt with at best minor problems.

Those problems would only more than likely come from animal rights people so no big deal unless in 2070 the animal rights people are doing more than just talking about how it is not right.

As for meta-humans and humans I do believe they are still considered a taboo food item to most of the world even in 2070 heck look at the fuss over feeding ghouls.

Other just what it says you pick it and given time I am sure someone will on these boards will point out the down side from trying to eat and/or drink that item.

So anyway have fun with this idea and lets see what everyone thinks heck it may be something that gm's can use as payment on some runs or at least partial payment anyways. :dead:

I voted for "other", while there may be status in eating dragons, metahumans and other sentients, I´d think most people don´t want to do that. Yakashima is hunting for Big D´s bequest on human synth flesh for ghouls and wants to open a nevoux-canibalism market with it, but this niche is only so big, so, don´t count on that being the big status thing. However, Oricalcum will be (if it is save to consume) just as gold is today. Tastes of nothing its only for the decadence of it!

speaking of food and such...

http://www.enn.com/today.html?id=9708

Giant jellyfish invasion in the japanese waters are causing a havoc upon the japanese fishing industry. What's hilarious is that this infestation is also in korean and in chinese waters. The koreans are also having problems with the jellyfish... funny enough, no problems by the chinese. Of course, we like jellyfish so it's all good. :-)

That aside, awakened jellyfish will be a notch higher than regular giant jellyfish cuisine. yum! :grinbig:

Another vote for fruit. Nothing says decadence like a variety bowl of incredibily expensive fruit replaced every day sitting in the foyer on the off chance that once a week someone will nibble a kumquat.

!!

Have you not seen what happened to Ghana and Brazil in SR?

Oh, and the orange groves should be fine. It's not like the basin has kept many commercial orange groves in the last century.

Jesus Christ, that is a monster omlet.

Good job! :D

If you look at foods today, all of the "status symbol" foods are meat based. The most expensive food you can purchase is from an animal in one form or another.

Expensive parties are set apart by the food offered. Think of the ones you expect: Caviar, especially anything Russian. Foie Gras, the liver of a force-fed goose, so high in fat it melts like butter. Veal, as so eloquently put by by Krug. Quail Eggs, blowfish, excessively priced Kobe Beef.. the list goes on and on.

In the dystopian Shadowrun future of soy and krill, the desire for and cost of these items will only increase. Really, it's not just the foods, but the entire cuisine that determines status. In the culinary world, that's been French for quite some time. Even if Japanese takes over, the rare and prime cuts ("sushi grade") of fish required still puts this firmly in the realm of meat.

There are other items closer in cost to those above, like black and white truffles, the "diamonds of the kitchen" and saffron, along with other spices. But these anomalies can't rival with the excessive prices charged for meat products.

For example Kopi Lowak Coffee, which is rare and expensive because it consists of coffee beans that have passed through the digestive tract of the tree-dwelling Palm Civet.

I voted other, because i see "real" anything being relatively rare en-masse, to the point that only mid-high execs only ever see low grade "real", ya know, like a T-bone steak, or a filet of Haddock.

Grinder: Vat grown foods could work the real question is just what is the whole process involved to make vat grown foods?

Is it close enough to real that there is no difference between the two or is the taste off?

LaughingTiger: hehe thanks I do love my creations I also make what I call ultimate cheese burgers which calls for american, provolone, mozzarella, white chedder, and swiss cheeses you get all 5 on one burger between in my case 2 slices of bread but you can have a bun if you want hehe.

I have other things I make as well but this is not a food site so i'll leave it at what i've posted.

as to meats being rare items today you do have a point meats are useally the most expensive.

fistandantilus3.0: hum you think real alcohol is gone in SR? Something like alcohol I would think would still be around.

Maybe a little more costly but not on the level of other things we take for granted nowadays. but that is just my thoughts anyone else have an opinion on this one?

RunnerPaul: I always knew there was a reason coffee tasted like shit to me. :rotfl:

Ancient History: eww bugs? or am I reading your post wrong and your saying orks are good?

To which I say ok and ask is there a certian part of orks that is better than the rest? Ya know like monkey brains today?

Aku: I wouldn't say real so expensive that the average person can't get it just that they only get it once in awhile kinda like lots of people do today.

I had a character who after a run would if possible go out to eat at a nice place as a treat to himself.

Eww! Bugers! Is that a variant spelling of boogers? Perhaps you meant burgers.

But with enough cheese. . . . :twirl:

Oh, and of course the fireball seals in the deep roasted flavor.
