Hey all,

I'm just curious if anyone has an idea about whats the political landscape of South America is in SR. The main thing I am wondering about is Brazil and Amazonia; does Brazil still exist in SR?

I always thought that Brazil still existed as a sovereign state but it only existed along the coastal regions but after reading the Hualpa section of Dragons of the Sixth World it made it sound that the whole of Brazil was conquered.

Can anybody explain the current situation for me?

My take was that Rio & Sao Paulo were part of Amazonia, but still operated pretty much as they were under the Brazilian Goverment. The rest of the country is an awakened nation that tends to be anti development.

It'll be covered in Shadows of Latin America, which will be released for free from Holostreets, whenever that goes up.

there's a little bit of info on Rio in one of the SOTA books . '64 IIRC.

And Novatech/Neonet does a lot of business there. Other than that, the only other canon reference I can think of off the top of my head with anything useful is Survival of the Fittest.

Brazil is no more, it has become the Awakened nation of Amazonia. How that came to pass is partially detailed in Dragons of the Sixth World (under Hualpa naturally). Amazonia has also wholly taken over or occupied chunks of various neighbors. It now controls Guyana, Venezuela, Suriname and about half of Colombia to the north. Peru is still around but the remaining Western and Southern borders are unknown although canon references exist to Bolivia, Argentina and Chile (in SOTAs, T:WL and T:AL). French Guyana is also still holding out (various sources but primarily Wake of the Comet). Sprawl Survival Guide has an entry on the Metropole megasprawl linking Rio and São Paulo. Harlequin, Predator and Prey and Survival of the Fittest all feature adventures set in Amazonia and offer details about what to expect in the wilder parts of the territory. Some additional information can be found in the Underworld sourcebook (under Ghost Cartels).

Shadows of Latin America was meant to provide the overall picture of Latin America in 2064 and includes chapters on Amazonia, Argentina, Aztlan, Bolivia, Carribbean League, Chile, Equador and Paraguay as well as a catch-all chapter for the remaining disputed territories, free cities and micronations (yes, including an update of the Yucatan situation).

Me, Iīm brazilian (as you can see from my crappy english), and most of my campaigns (in ANY RPG, excepting, of course published fantasy) are played in here, whenever itīs possible. I did it once for SR, but I assumed that the nation of Amazonia was composed only by the amazonian forest (including the northern states of Para, Amazonas, Acre, Maranhao, Tocantins and Mato Grosso), leaving the rest of the territory to be Brazil. Of course, none of this is official, and even the 2nd ed. BBB says that the whole country was taken by the awakened coalision, but I donīt know.

I hope SoSA can fill in the blanks.

Imagine how crappy my Portuguese is, since here in America we make you damn foreigners learn English, but we can't be bothered to learn "your" languages. Heh. (I am trying to learn Spanish, but since my hearing is a little impaired after my days with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children-well let's just say I won't be passing for a native speaker anytime soon.)

This is totally off-topic, but right you are. What seriously pisses me off is american tourists that we unfortunately get sometimes here in Helsinki, bitchin "these damn backward nations can't even speak english well enough to please my fat ass." A big fuck you to them.

This is of course generalization, we do get nice tourists also, and I'm not saying that all americans are stupid, selfcentered assholes.

Sorry, needed to get that off my chest.

Ha .... the nice ones are actually Canadians mistaken for Americans.

My wife written out many traits that you can use as a guide for a game called spot the American. (a brilliant piece of satire)

Closer to back on topic, what dragons have setup their lair's in SA?

There were allegedly three greats involved in the Amazonian uprising. Hualpa is certain, Sirrug is a probable and the third is a mystery (although SoLA had more on that iirc).

Well, which one do you think is the third dragon? Hualpa is a great dragon (isnīt she?), or feathered serpent, whatever. Sirrug is probably there (as several fonts say), but what about the third one? Is it a great dragon? Another feathered serpent? What?

My guess is that itīs a great dragon. Donīt know which one, but...

Itīs funny, you know - I work at a citzen central (yeah, Iīm a public servant), which is this place in my statesī administration that unites several public offices that the common citzen will find useful, like offices of public taxes, consumer defense (my place), traffic fines, power, water, post, and the likes.

Fortunately, we are located at a small mall (no pun intended - if there is ANY to read), at 50 yards from the beach (we have notoriously beautiful beaches here in my town, sunny almost all the year - but not now). Of course that we have a LOT of tourists. Most of them are italian, german, dutch, swiss and sweden (donīt ask me why), and we have some american and english too, but it doesnīt matter, because ALL of them only speak english and some god-awful spanish (that they seem to have learned from a drunken walrus). Several times I am called at the front desk to help people dealing with nordic tourists trying to be undstood in a frantic spanish - and failing miserably.

They donīt seem to understand that we speak portuguese, not spanish.

So, itīs not annoying, but funny. Specially when theyīre half-drunk, wearing only their bathsuits and a t-shirt saying "kiss the tourist" or something like that, and demanding that they have been robbed: how in hell can a sun-block cocoa lipstick cost the same as a 2-course meal?

But they do. Iīll probably die without ever knowing why, but we have the strangest price relation EVER in the whole history of economy.

Well, since you're Brazilian, I think you'll find the following hint interesting: M'Boi (escrito de umas cinco maneiras diferentes dependendo da fonte que estamos a ler).

Thanks for understanding that. I personally know some "ugly Americans" having heard stories about their travels. It embarasses me to no end to be associated with them.

I have to disagree. Some of the nice ones are Americans pretending to be Canadians.... :grinbig:

Still off-topic, just today I saw some kids in the tram, maybe seven or eight years old, and they were talking about how stupid americans are, how ignorant they are and the usual yada-yada you hear from ADULTS mostly.

The point is, as an american citizen, but also as a finn, it really worries me how negative the attitudes againts "yankees" are. Hate is a sad thing, especially when there's little or no basis for it.
The other really depressing thing is how little the foreign policy of the states is doing to negate this, on the contrary even.

But that's that.

What is it? A phrasebook telling you how to pepper your sentences with "eh" and "aboot?"

that is chapter 1.

Chapter 2 is how to use please and thank you.
Chapter 3 is actual history of WW1 and WW2 where the USA didn't win the war for everyone, but joined when the balance was already tipped in allies favour.
Chapter 4 teaches that police actions are not considered peace keeping.
Chapter 5 not everyone has a president.
Chapter 6 training your attack beaver
Chapter 7 American beer tastes like sewage flavoured water.
Chapter 8 Mounties always get their man.
Chapter 9 Building an igloo.

I have to jump in here it is so easy to lump all americans in one pot and scream ugly americans.

Sure some are total a holes when they travel but a lot are not.

I used to work at FT Lauderdale Inter Airport exchanging forgein currency and I met a lot of really nice people but I also met a lot of really rude people as well.

I learned you can't judge eveyone from a country by their tourists and that people are basically people no matter where they come from and they all have the ability to be really nasty entiltled A holes. Or they can be generous, friendly and cool people to talk to.

Which chapter is moose head?

But, yeah. It's been my impression that it's not any group of specific origin insofar as tourists generally tend to be douchebags. For me, they are why I have tried very hard never to visit Santa Fe on the weekend (Good God!) because if you think they stick out in Europe (and many do) the same people who'd act like 'tards there are just as big a bunch of 'tards on domestic vacations.
