Screw self-respect, I want a dedicate thread, too! Check out my pal Dominoe, below, a starting character designed as new to the shadows for "On The Run." Kansas City folks might get a kick out of this one. Can't say I care for the Code View here, but I didn't see any other way to have fixed-width type.

Not really what you're looking for here, but...did you hand-format that, or is it output from a generator? I ask mainly because of the page numbers. If it's coming out of a tool, it's pretty sharp :)
Connections 6 for a hotel doorman seems a little high, even if he's an ace fixer. |

It does seem excessive, but that's the book's description of a fixer/fence with international ties:

It comes out of an Excel spreadsheet tool I'm working on. I had to convert the tabs to spaces manually for this post. Boo! =( It's a shame the Dumpshock CODE tag produces such an oddball color for output. |

I guess I owe the lack of significant criticism for this character to the low number of readers for this thread. LOL
I expected an argument about taking Dodge vs Gymnastics, but alas! =) |

OMFG you noob. ROFL. Take gymnsatcis, ti is teh 1337! Since I saw that you actually have a character concept and a realistic one, along with realistic stats and realistic abilities, I feel seduced to not give you any advice on how to make the character more effective, because it could break the concept. I mean, you've chosen Extraordinary Charisma and do not even take advantage of it, I fear you chose it because it fits your character, while it does not fit to give him a moviestar-like-charisma-rating! R-E-S-P-E-C-T! My group consists of 6 other players. 4 have no character background at all. They have numbers. One of them once said that the character is defined through the numbers. I do not feel sorry for making fun of him the whole evening for it. The other two players have a background for their characters, but ignore it. Man, don't you feel an overcoming urge to move to berlin, learn german and run in my group? |

Actually, I'll add one more thing, sure. Given that he has a medical degree and his day job is at a clinic, you might want to spread some more points in that direction. I don't mean increasing his First Aid, so much as buying other supporting skills. Bump the biology, maybe. Add some other medical-related knowledge skills. That sort of thing.

I just want the record to show that I did not intentionally seduce UndeadPoet. =) Also, I felt that the Enhanced Attribute: Charisma would allow for growth in his primary area of usefulness. Didn't seem wise to limit him by not taking it at character creation. |

I agree with this assessment. I think my desire for his skills to reflect the playboy lifestyle trumped his ancillary medical skills. Although I guess Biology covers all medical skills to some degree, and that was probably my reasoning at the time. I really wanted him to be able to pilot pleasure crafts, at least recreationally. What would some suggested additional medical knowledge skills be? Examples:
Definitely need to bump Biology, perhaps to 5 to mirror the book's Knowledge skill example for a master's degree. Not sure where to steal the points from, though. Suggestions? |

Something about pharmacology? You've got Street Drugs on there, but if he went through medical school he should have a pretty extensive knowledge of standard legal drugs, also.
Emergency Room Procedures might be more specific than you need. Maybe Hospital Procedures? Could specialize in Emergency Room. He'd have gone through a residency in a hospital, though, and have a good idea of how things work in an ordinary hospital ward as well as the ER. |

From this effectiveness-oriented-perspective, you could just have maxed it to 7... More effective than to start with an over-average attribute and max it later on. Also, get a Sakura Fubuki with shocker ammunition, just a small advice... From the effectiveness-orientived-perspective. Short bursts for 8S damage, along with the shocker-effect and halved impact armor. |

Give me some more points and I'll max it at 7. =) LOL At least this way there's a clear character growth path. |

So, back when you asked this, I didn't have my book handy. Flipping through it last night looking for something else, I was reading First Aid and was suddenly reminded :) Okay. Reading through all the skills again, I think an MD who worked in a hospital would minimally have: * Medicine 3 * AcKn - Chemistry (Pharmaceuticals) 2 (+2) * AcKn - Biology 3 * Etiquette (Hospital) 2 (+2) * Cybertechnology 1 Beyond that: * An experienced surgeon would also have Leadership. * A doctor in a teaching hospital would have Instruction. * An ER doc would also have First Aid. * Awakened doctors would have several levels in Assensing (Aura Reading) |

Ok well this comment is probably going to bite me on the butt simply because I'm too lazy to get up and walk 30m to my book and back to check but I think you missed something and I hope you have resources left to pay for it :)
Namely you forgot the OS for your comlink. Also just wondering why you got goggles with a smartlink when the dude has it as cyber? |

Boy, those are all good. Will have to have a come-to-jesus moment to reconcile what I will do to bring him more in line with this. The points are really, really scarce. Grumble. =( |

Gack! No OS?! Son of a... Heh. Minor technicality. =) That was just put in there to see if anyone would actually READ the thing. Yeah, that's the ticket... =) Hmm. The goggles thing is a very good question. Will review. Thanks, guys! =) |

As a gm I would not allow two contacts with a connection 6 - except for quite reasonnable character as yours !
have fun with him (and, actually, you shouldn't take exceptionnal charisma if you keep it at 5 during creation) ! |

This has been mentioned before, so perhaps I should reconsider this. Would certainly save some points. I just wanted to build the groundwork for the future, since he won't be able to ever exceed the maximum if I don't get that quality at creation. Does anyone out there agree with this approach? |

Hmm. Well, you could drop Street Drugs; the Chemistry specialization would help cover some of the same stuff, just from a different perspective. Your highest active skill is Infiltration, at 4, which surprised me. I'm not sure where that fits in with the rest. But you could perhaps drop a point or two there. Could drop Edge from 4 to 3. Hmm. |

You're absolutely right. This "dedicated thread peer review" thing is great at pointing out my hidden desire to power game. lol I'll drop Infiltration down to something more reasonable to reflect his youthful activities. Let's call it a two. I'm leaning toward losing the Exceptional Attribute quality altogether, which by itself would provide 20 BP. Holy moly! That may well provide the answer to all these issues you guys have brought up. Will provide cash for the OS, allow me to get more clinical skills, and resolve the oddity of the Exceptional Attribute quality without the actual exceptional attribute to go along with it. =) Thoughts? |
