It was about the right to shoot bears and have their arms stuffed and mounted on your wall. Our founding fathers would freak out if they see the kinds of things it gets used as justification for today.

QUOTE (Kagetenshi @ Jul 5 2006, 02:36 PM)
A few things are different. First off, though animals are in some places bred to be hunted, in general with animals raised for slaughter the market demand for its birth was created as well. This is, for hunting, generally not the case.

See, I don't make the disconnect with things that were purpose-bred to be eaten. An animal dies either way... arguably (given the conditions a number of animals live in within the American meat industry, at least) it's more humane to hunt than to raise for slaughter.

It is a matter of conservation. It isn't possible to farm a species into extinction. It is very easy to hunt a species into extinction.

We've all heard the terms "It's under the limit" or "I'm at my limit" with reference to hunting. A number of places regulate their hunting with an eye to the population of the animal that's "in season," often having a lottery or ticket system, that restricts what and how many can be hunted (down to the sex and approximate age of the animas that are legal). Does this still cause a conservation conflict for you?
