Ok, as a lark I was going through some of the images on Elfwood, seeing what artists came up with for Shadowrun.

I came across a nicely done piece - until I read the description.

Half elf, half dwarf.

Uh - WTF? Dude, read the rules for the game!

I don't know how many GMs would actually allow that sort of thing, but I sure wouldn't, nor would I want to play in a game where the GM did!

Minor rant over.

A wizard did it. :)
Or an evil geneticist.

EDIT: can you post a link to said image?

Remember, kids - all you need is a cleaver, needle & thread and a castle equipped to attract and reroute lightning. :grinbig:

Give me a few minutes, see if I can find the image again. Elfwood is a pretty massive site. :)

Heh, didn't take as long as I figured it would....

http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/o/n/onib.../eliza.jpg.html

The artist isn't bad, I've seen worse, but still, it bugs the crap out of me. Half elf, half dwarf. *shudders*

Hmm. I'm quite disappointed. She doesn't look very dwarfy (or even all that particularly elfy). I don't know what I was expecting though. Smurfette perhaps. ;)

LOL!

Well, the artist is pretty good, I've been prusing her other works. Some are definetly adult in nature though.

Well, let's break it down and see what sort of munchkinner, broken, character this "best of both worlds" ended up being.

Elf: Taller than human norm, more slender, sparser body hair. Pointed ears. Traditionally, quicker than humans, more likeable, a little less healthy.

Dwarf: Shorter than human norm, blocky, hairier. Pointed ears. Traditionally, slower than humans, less likeable, and more healthy.

OMG SO COOL Half Elf/ Half Dwarf LOL: Human. Pointed ears.

Yeah. Sounds like someone just took the "elf poseur" disadvantage, and got a little cosmetic surgery, to me. Then, y'know, drew a picture.

I think if I had to merge them I'd choose to end up with 'tall and slender, pointy ears, very hairy and warty, knobbly knees, red nose'...
God, why am I even thinking about this? Visions of an ex-girlfriend, perhaps.

It said 'best of all worlds' - so it's only reasonable to add together only the good things, isn't it?

Actually, in SR, dwarves don't have a penalty to their likability or agility, and elves don't have a penalty to health.

That's cause they arn't 'traditional' races, but a mutation of the standard human. Before you guys start to bbq me, I'm not using mutation as a deragatory term, just a scientific term.

Dwarves run slower and have a penalty to reaction. Elves....err yea. I've never understood the -con in DnD that elves get when they're the longest living race.

You have 9 more tries. 8)
Though I do admit to liking the game system when in a group of people who know the rules and dont have to spend the night book diving.

Here is how I would GM a half elf half dwarf.

8 ) So you want to play a half elf half dwarf, right?

: P Yup.

8 ) You are aware that the rules for interracial breeding are pretty well laid out, and basically say that mixed parentage means you turn out as one or the other.

: P Yeah but there was a (Blaggety blag blag blag) and so I get to have low light and thermographic vision, high mental and physical stat caps, and still turn out looking roughly human.

8 ) No.

: p But blaggety blag blag

8 ) .... No.

: P I'll buy you pizza

8 ) Pepperoni and pineapple?

: P yup.

8 ) Ok. Sesion one, there is a knock at the door.

: P who is it?

8 ) Aztechnology, they want to use you for some genetic experiments. You spend the next three years on an operating table having your internal organs detailed.

My favourite GM munchin blasting story was for a character that was a Drow Bladesinger (Apparently a different species only character class)

The guy basically went through every D&D book stacking bonuses until they were a deity with the longsword.

The GM then dumped the party in the stone age. All the balanced characters just picked up a stick, and the more inventive ones tied rocks to theirs. Captain munchkin only had longsword skills, and spent the next few game months trying to build a longsword.

"How hard can it be?"

"In the bronze age without the mining or weaponsmithing skills? Pretty hard, would be my guess." :D
