I was just watching the news and they were saying how snow in the rockies is good for the tourist spots and it made me wonder. When this is no longer USA but parts of NAN nations that might have an anti-pink skin outlook, what tourist spots would still be around? What might increase?

For example the CAS would still have all it's coast lines and Orlando. CFS has it's beaches, well most of them, and the wine country.

The UCAS has NYC and Cape Cod, The Jersey Shore. But what else comes along?
Pocono skiing and Vt ski spots get a big upswing? Do the NAN try to blank out the pinkskin prejudice to get tourists back? Does stuff like the aspen Food festival and Sundance film festivals relocate to more friendly environs or do they get waved around as proof the NAN really are ok?

We know Las Vegas is still going strong (NAN1) and we can guess Chicago is a really low tourist site. Historic cities like Philadelphia and Boston, washington DC and Baltimore have their draws but what else is there? Where does mom and dad corper think to take the kiddies? Where do young corpers in love go for a holiday?

I'm pretty sure that the CAS doesn't own either Orlando or most of the Florida coastline, and they belong to the Carib League.

...surf's up at Big Bay WI (really) :grinbig:

Seriously. Of course one of the obvious is the Kingdom of Hawai'i. Tourism is still the biggest cash cow for the now independent island nation. Don't forget to pack your Predator though.

The Italian/French Riviera the place to rub elbows with the Euro chic and lose lots of your hard earned :nuyen: in the casinos. Oh & don't forget Monaco.

If you are human, the Swiss and Austrian (Salzburg - unless the mana stoms in the Tyrol have finally dissipated) Alps still boast some of the finest alpine skiing in the world.

...now, a little closer to home for some of us.

I am sure there is still hiking/camping in the Adarondacks (UCAS), and the Great Smoky range (CAS).

For beach and water activities there is Carolina coast, Virgina Beach, and the Gulf Coast (CAS).

For sailing and boating there is Cheapeake Bay, the Western Great Lakes and inland lakes such as Mendota in Madison (one of the best remaining college party towns) and Winnebego (FonDu Lac/Oshkosh). During the winter (if you can hack the cold) the rural areas of Wisconsin are a haven for nordic skiing and for the more speed minded, snowmobiling.

Outside of the NAN, about the only alpine skiing left in North America in pretty much now relegated to Vermont, New Hampshire, Upstate NY the UP of Michigan and Arrowhead on Minnesota. No where near the verticals of the Rockies/Wastatch though.

Finally, for just goofing around and/or partying, besides Vegas, New Orleans (and the aforementioned Madison - when the university is in session) is where to be. Not sure how NYC will fare as an entertainment/nightlife centre until Corporate Enclaves comes out.

...and remember, surf's up at Big Bay... (and here, haoles can surf):grinbig:

[addendum]

...almost forgot. With the shift in power down in the old TT, this could open things up for tourism here as well. Considering that the former government no doubt wanted to have a "pretty little eleven kingdom" there could be a wide range vacation opportunities. For Skiing, climbing, and hiking, there are the Cascades (sans Mt Hood of course). The Rogue and Decschutes rivers would be popular sites again for whitewater rafting. Supposedly the concentration of mana there continued to ebb according to SoNA Crater Lake could again be a mecca for hiking and camping (who knows maybe you'll see the resident "Nessie" rumoured to live in the lake). the Coast while maybe not good for surfing would still be a good place to kick back & relax year round.

Where does anyone take their kids? Virtual World Disney, of course. Runner Haven's mentions the Hong Kong Location. For North American corp-brats, the original is still available in LA (see Corp Enclaves), and better than ever under Horizon ownership (or at least marketed much better ;) )

Also, the area around Salt Lake City has lots of ski resorts, which were said to be very popular with tourists (even if you couldn't get around in the rest of the Ute nation, SLC was run by the non-native american mormons, with an open border policy). (see SoNA for info) Now that Ute is under Pueblo control, I imagine the tourism for their ski resorts elsewhere, like Provo, is going to be booming.

Yes, indeedy. All those famous elven wineries for tours for adults, outdoor sports & year round skiing, the pristine beaches, etc, etc.

..oops, forgot about the setting in SLC. Definitely the best skiing (outside of Steamboat) in the old USA (been there in RL before I became arthritic).

..ahh yes that ohh so tasty Pinot Nior.

...and don't forget that wonderful wacky weirdness that was Portland before the Awakening.

...shoot I'm going to have to dig up that disk with my old NeoAnarchits' Portland Handbook. Have to find the old external floppy drive too, that's how long a go it was.

"So where the fragging bloody inferno are you?"

I can imagine Australian tourism industry took a hit. The whole country seems inclined to kill you, perhaps for your water, or maybe a mana-storm throwing you off the syd harbor bridge and into the harbor, and let's not forget the need for kevlar-II umbrellas in the ever-present threat of vampire furries.

I'd forgotten SLC was still pink. (NAN1) I missed that the Ute's had fallen under the PCC, when'd that go down?

Paradise Lost shows that Hawaii is big on tourism, I assume parts of the Carib league is also in much the same business as today but do we think the NAN would open up the rockies for pinkskins for the business?

What about the Mexican hot spots? tourist ground or maybe private play areas for the Aztecnolongy corporate family members?

Because France, Spain, Portugal , Switzerland and Austria are pretty much intact their tourist areas should be ok, as long as you fit into the local prejudice. Italy would also be up in the air. With it's beachs and great art and architecture would they be jealous "You only need to see our stuff" or encourage travel and share the wealth, or maybe that tour group in Rome will shuttle you out to Venice, but you're paying through Rome so they skim the til.

Pueblo came to the "rescue" of the Ute in 2067 (pg 34, SR4). Corp Enclaves touches more on the subject, though. So, PCC now controls Reno, Las Vegas, Provo (Most of the great ski resorts around Salt Lake were controlled by SLC, not Ute), and most of the land around Denver --- looks like a huge chunk of the Rockies is open to pinkskins for business. Especially since Pueblo has a reputation of being Anglo-friendly, and more interested in doing business than being (penniless) racists. ;)

...well considering one of the more important AAA megas (and member of the Corporate Court) is HQ'd in the PC I am not surprised they are more accommodating. The fact that they are also ties to the TT is also encouraging for the nation's rise from of the elven "dark ages".

So we have established that there is in fact far more good alpine skiing than I thought. Now howsabout surfing? OK, the Kingdom of Hawai'i is a gimmie so no more discussion needed. I know there is also surfing in Australia, so that may still be fairly intact for I understand most surfing activity is pretty much along the Great Barrier Reef and South Australia. Unfortunately so are most of the sharks (remember to bring your Bat Shark Repellent Robin). On the African continent South Africa and Morocco are the two major surfing areas with some pretty excellent areas (local political scene aside).

Back to North America. The PC now controls LA but a major part of the city must still be in ruins (again need Corporate Enclaves to get the Big picture). Farther north (TT) there are not a lot of good places as the best waves there are found in Depoe Bay (Boiler Bay) which is predominantly rock outcroppings with no real beach (not conducive for doing a header into). Also the water is c-o-l-d!!!! so you need a wetsuit (so much for wearin' your baggies dude). Now the magically enterprising could create artificial surf using spirits of water, but that is taxing on the mages as each wave created would be a service. Also for the real purists it could be construed as a cheat or too artificial (like indoor surf arenas are in RL - check it out, they have them in Japan). And those monster curls like seen on the North shore, it would take one helluva greatform to make one of those.

There are indoor ski-slopes in Dubai (at least that's where I read about them, I'm sure they're in other places), so I imagine in SR that there are resorts or parks you can go to to do just about anything; surf in the morning and snowboard in the evening. Check out Dubai's hotels and scupltured islands; its a pretty good approximation of what the Luxury Lifestyle probably looks like. There's also pretty good cold water surfing in Maine, if you're crazy.

I remember from a Cyberpunk boxed set super-adventure, The Land of the Free, that sections of New Orleans had been converted into Venice-like canals. (LotF was put out in the mid-90's, although in the wake of Katrina it did feel oddly prophetic.) Depending on how much the ocean levels rise, there are probably other coastal communities that will have similar problems. If you want to play around with that, the Flood Maps site is fun. You can zoom in on Miami or New Orleans or Seattle and give them up to a 14m rise in Sea Level.

Tiger Eyes, is that correct?

Also, has Lake Erie actually been cleaned up enough? Last I recall it was one of, if not the most polluted of the Great Lakes.
