Sample Background:

Quenya was born in the Plastic Jungle in the Puyallup Barrens. His parents were cold, distant, and often suffered form bouts of severe depression; traits that rubbed off on Quenya. His childhood was marred by poverty and neglect. Eventually, growing tired of people, Quenya moved away from the community to live as a sort of hermit.

Life was quiet until that fateful day he found the body of a dead ganger, his commlink, and a case of simsense chips. He began experimenting with the commlink, eventually figuring out how to use it. And it wasn't log before he tried slotted some of the chips. The BTL high overwhelmed him and he passed into a comatose state. Somehow, in his BTL induced haze, Quenya managed to call his first spirit. It was still waiting when the BTL chip finally burned itself out. He learned as much as he could from the spirit before it departed. It wasn't long before Quenya had summoned another, much smaller, much easier to manage, spirit.

One thing led to another and Quenya found himself doing "odd jobs" for a local gang boss. That led to some two-yen jobs for a Mafia soldier. And that led to being tapped by a Broker for some more serious work for one of the sprawl's Fixers.

Quenya comes off as, well, really crazy. Its hard to say if it's an act, a byproduct of his affinity for spirits, or a side effect of his BTL addiction. Crazy or not, Quenya is exceptionally good at what he does, especially when it comes to Spirits of Beasts. Now if only he could figure out how to cast some spells...

''Is the blood real? What do you think?''

Young Nathan didn't have a whole lot of chance in Pullayup-he was ina bad way with two BTL junkie parents(they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree), and not alot of schooling; though you couldn't call him stupid(he learned Norwegian via tutorchips to help get in touch with some of his heritage, after all.) Nathan grew fast though, and when he did go to school he began to show quite the attitude problem-naturally, given his home life. He started to actually find something to do with himself when an athletic teacher, seeing his potential, funneled him to some martial arts classes to try to teach the kid some self-discipline, and it actually helped-for awhile. But then Nathan got caught up in a bad crowd and the training went to more dark purposes.

He started using BTLs also-and ran with a kind of gang that would use them on 'thrill runs'', where they'd slot ultraviolence BTLs and go do carnage. He would sometimes wake up in warehouses, bruised and bloody-some his, some not his. He eventually never really went back home(like his parents even knew he was gone they were so bombed), but he did manage to find a few like minds-guys his age who played instruments, and got into playing in a band-playing some rather evil sounding black metal. He still ran with the BTL thrillgang. He was found one day by some mob muscle who saw the teen's rather vicious presence; he was intimidating somehow, and could be used; and that's how Nathan began to do dirty work now and then for the Mob-he wasn't officially hired, but he was that 'non mob guy' who could do some of the dirtier, brutal stuff-and Nathan's moral compass, luckily for the mob, was rather on the low side anymore. And since the mob paid him well-he was doing the blacker work, the pay sometimes came in the form of 'ware, which only helped him work better, and he hadn't really enjoyed this 'feeling useful thing', as well as ya know, getting this stuff in his body and being able to eat and have a place to live, even though its kinda small, underground and not so big-so he kept with it. He never did wanna join though-wasn't his style. He was happy being that guy in the shadows, doing jobs ranging from old payment collecting, to kneebreaking, to scaring, and yeah, up to and including murder for hire.

Nathan at this point is only 18 with some only average ware but a pretty scary physical presence and ability; he sometimes wields an axe(like any true black metaller would), as well as hardliner gloves(outfitted with spikes naturally, and more than just for show), and heavy boots(also outfitted with spikes, and also small, almost centimeter long spikes on the soles. He walks in these with no problem, they are more used in the bloody pulverizing of whoever he's hired to/pisses him off. Well, so are his gloves. Whatever limb happens to be closest to the poor sap he's sent to dispatch at the time, it doesn't matter to him.) His spiked appendages gave him the nickname of Bloodtalon among a few of his peers, mainly due to their inevitable appearance afterward when he reported the job finished; he can be a scary young man. His gun of choice is a sawed off Remington, though he doesn't use it as often(He'd like to learn handguns sometime for small, portable backup-though he does like it a little more up close). He is well trained in kickboxing, but has ended up with a more freeform style over the time as well, and he's got no qualms with hitting people with backs turned or prone on the ground.

Nathan still has a chance, though-if some folks could pull him out before he becomes even more criminalized, and his moral compass points the rest of the way south-something could come of it-his fury, refined, could turn him into a samurai that could be a lethal force to be reckoned with; he already is but the power is going the wrong way. Nathan is actually a really good looking young guy with chest-length, dyed black hair and a clean shaven face-but you have to get past the cybereyes with the orange irises and skin so pale(he is allergic to sun, and he actually doesnt mind it as it adds to his appearance, in his opinion) that it's nearly white, not to mention the deadly violent demeanor that was pounded into him and follows him around. Thanks to his mob jobs and the old thrill running he's killed several people violently already-and mostly without weapons. But he's got a few friends though so if you're lucky you'll find yourself among them instead of the enemies.

You could maybe tell him on the stage(in tiny ass clubs, naturally, raw black metal bands dont have alot of fans) in his corpsepaint, if you recognized the tall guy with the guitar and spikes which look perhaps like they need to be cleaned a bit(you know, that old...stage blood hasn't come all the way off yet, heh...), and his self-scarred chest(hey, part of the stage show.)He looks lean somewhat but he has a surprising strength in his body. He has an armored, battered leather jacket as his armor, with worn jeans tucked into his boots and some sort of cutoff sleeved shirt with a faded, indecipherable band logo, and doesn't have too much in the way of possessions, but he's trying to scrape himself up further from the bottom and get more cred. He's not the most personable guy in the world but if you do it right you can kind of get through to him and he might just decide he likes you. He desperately needs some moral guidance, though, before he falls all the way off the other end. He does have a consience, however-underneath it all(proving there is hope)-there are certain things where he will draw the line at, and sometimes even be offended that someone suggest such a thing from him.

-This is just my tribute to a badass dude in a black metal band that can wreck some shit; I sorta picture this is how a Street Samurai could look coming from a really rough, violent and downright bloody upbringing before he gets refined-if he gets refined. He's not out of hope yet, if given the right guidance. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I wanted a rather dark, somewhat disturbing character who is still young enough to be pulled out of the pit that his life dug for him and he didn't know how to get out of. Though he'll always like his occult and dislike most organized religions and such, and might always have a penchant for doing the work no one else does-he can still be put on a more productive path, so to speak.

Couple of reasons. First is that it's a common gun that doesn't raise eyebrows. It looks like a personal protection-style light pistol. If a Lone Star officer pulls you over and you have a permit for your little popgun, he'll shrug and say have a nice day. If, instead, you whip out a Smartlinked Ares Predator, he's going to look at the registration and liscensing a whole lot closer. Second is that it *is* a light pistol, making it far easier to smuggle around. You can sneak it in much more easily than a larger handcannon. The just SILLY huge ammo capacity's a nice bonus, as no one has spare initiative passes to 'waste' reloading, and, lastly, a built-in laser sight for those not using SmartWeapon upgrades makes it, all around, the weapon of choice for the average 'Runner. Faces, Deckers, Mages ... any of them can carry one and be fine. Save the Predators for the hardcore fighters.

Cami doesn't like crime... honest! If she could, she'd quite happily be living in the middle of Suburbia, flirting with boys and causing trouble for Daddy. Unfortunately for her, Daddy's in jail, Mommy's got a new boyfriend every night, and Suburbia's a world away.

Growing up in the Barrens has a way of making Suburbia seem so very far out of one's reach. How can a girl ever reach Suburbia if she's forced to lie, cheat, steal, and sometimes even kill to get enough money to keep fed? The killing's the worst, though. A burst of flechette rounds to the face makes things soo ugly and messy... but it also keeps a girl from being on the receiving end of some drugged up ganger's more... insistent advances.

Luckily for Cami, she's recently discovered that she doesn't have to kill people nearly as often as she used to. She's become far more capable in avoiding trouble, either by not being seen or by talking her way out of it. It was literally an overnight change! Her friend, Rupert, has suggested that she might be an "adept," whatever that is, and has started letting her know about possible magic users in town who might be able to teach her how to get the most out of her new skills.

Cami just hopes that one of them will be a handsome man who will take her away from all of the unpleasantness that is life in the Barrens.

Only two things I saw: Sim Module rigged for BTL/Hot Sim is availability 12 (Ain't that a kick?!) and you actually come *under* 5 points total at 315 ... could probably replace the Sunlight Allergy with another hit of addiction or skitter over towards a criminal SIN, that'd make up for the missing 5 points.

Otherwise, kinda scary dude. That's some serious fighting skill!

whoa! so i guess you can't get BTLs if you're a ganger, hmm...well, ill figure something out. (You'd think the game would happily give away an ability to burn yourself out.)

Well, lets see..I fixed it to give him another level of High Pain Tolerance. You know, it's rather hilarious-we are used to playing the 400 BP games with no Availability limit-not crazed powergames but a little higher on the action(or so we think. We usually end up rolling Data Search and Fugu Cutting most of the time, go figure (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) ), and I was afraid i'd not be able to really do something here. I manage to go under. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Well, Ill try to figure out something for his BTL fix. He's got 250 nuyen left now at least.

Currently working on 3 others-the stealth guy, a face/fixit girl and a guy who can be the other half of what could be the combat team if Nathan feels friendly that day. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Hmm. My book shows 4F for the BTL/Hot mod on a commlink sim module. The implanted version was 12F. Has that been errata'd? I can't get to the FAQ from work to check.

Clark 'Kent' Wilson was rather small and light for a dwarf-he occationaly got picked on in school, but he had some good friends as well-his rather sharp wit was liked. He wasn't unhealthy-he was rather quick, agile, and slippery even at a young age, and used to impress his buddies with his double-jointedness; it's always a hit with people when one is throwing their arms out of their sockets. Clark lived a rather decent life, actually-did well in school as a general B student(getting A's when he wanted, he was pretty bright), parents worked normal jobs, lived in an average suburb-if anything, Clark's life was rather boring growing up.

Which is probably where his thirst for 'adventure' came in. Well, bored teenager plus wanting adventure plus general teenage rebellion gave Clark(his nickname came from his friend who was obsessed with old comic books) a taste for wanting to try daring things, and thus he and his buddies lives and thieves began. They never stole anything overly valuable or sentimental to people, but they did have some fun in some parts of the city. He got better and better-he was naturally fairly athletic and was able to twist and turn through the varied small spots-being only around 3 foot 7 himself, it was really easy for him. He and his buddies became quite the petty larcens and even started to get some cash off of it as they got brave enough to start fencing the loot-this is where Kent met who would be his fixer later on. Kent, around 18 years got himself outfitted with a bit of ware which made him quicker-and his stealth skills were fairly top-notch. He even began to tinker around with electronic security systems.

Well, as more and more strings of burglaries kept happening around, naturally police managed to eventually catch on to what was happening. And while Kent was a rather lucky guy all told-eventually, him and his band of merry burglars got caught when he was around 20. Well, he was tried and convicted-sentenced to 2 years in the big house. His sentence was fairly light, even though they stole some expensive stuff-as no one got hurt in their runnings-they were thieves, not murderers. His parents didn't bail him out-they didn't disown him or anything or even hate him-but they figured he should learn his lesson, as he made his own bed; now he should sleep in it. Well, the idea of prison didn't really appeal to the rather lightweight of a dwarf; but he figured he'd make the best of it-he had some natural charm and the like which could indeed help him out, he thought.

And it did. While he did have to learn in a hurry to defend himself-like any prison-goer, one learns how to use sharp objects fabricated from everyday items-he also managed to make good with some of the cons. He had a few fights(never killed anyone), managed to keep his nose clean, and after a few changeovers(shaving his head, having it tattooed, like any good little aspiring tough guy), he served his time and was back a free man. But while he managed to go straight for a short while- naturally, old habits die hard, and with a couple of fake IDs, a change of city to Seattle(he was in Denver originally), and a few other odds and ends, Kent was back in his old ways-but wiser, this time, and with new skills. He learned how to shoot a gun out of necessity-the streets in some parts of Seattle were a little rougher, and living in the shadows was a sight more dangerous. Not to mention the Criminal SIN in Denver that he has(luckily, he's not considered on parole-because he served his full time.)

He's managed to stay away from the worse of the lot of the shadows-he had to kill a man with a shot once in self-defense, but he really tries not to unless it's very necessary; for one he doesn't want to go back to prison, but more importantly it's just not his style; he likes to see himself as more of a slick thief who can get in and out without being seen. Kent looks rather nondescript mostly, though his tribal tattoos he wears on his cleanly shaved head sort of stand out; his cybereyes are his natural brown, his skin medium-tan. He dresses low-key and low-maitenence-black sneakers, rock t-shirts and a jacket, an armor vest is his choice of armor if he's going somewhere a little more dangerous; and he does have a full suit of urban camo he can bust out if it's necessary. He's finding himself rather successful in hiring himself out to low-end teams; they like having a small, speedy, rather quiet guy who isn't going to blow the lid off of an operation. He met up with Riki, the young lady who is a combination facewoman/mechanic, on a job and the two became friends; he was impressed at her technical knowhow, and she's been teaching him a thing or two about hardware.

He sees retirement as kind of far off; he runs half for the nuyen and half for the thrill; his dream one day is pulling off a huge, movie-esque heist like they did with the large gangs of thieves in the old days. He spends his spare time listening to good ol' fashioned rock music, watching combat biking at his favorite bar, and studying how varied security devices work-the more you know, the better, he figures. He's a rather easy to get along with fellow with a long fuse; this is good since their occational heavy-muscle that comes along, Bloodtalon, is anything but; and while Julian ''Silver Lotus'' is a rather friendly guy, his rather...attention-grabbing way gets a little too high-key sometimes and it's his job to help get him back a liiitle to the underground. He, along with Riki sort of adds some balance to the team in this way. Diablo, the ork, gets a little boisterous at times too, but he has no problem getting along with the rather personable Kent.

Background

Quentra Delaforsante was born in the CAS, in Richmond, Virginia. More specifically, Downtown Richmond, a barrens that matches the viciousness of Redmond or Puyallup. His father was a lousy conman, ex-mil, an elf for whom nothing seemed to go right. His mother was a human adept, a retired small time runner. Growing up, his mother was often gone for months at a time running, so he was raised by his father, who taught him the basics of shooting rifles and even gave Quentra his own rifle as a birthday present. Quentra learned, from his father, how to shoot, see, and talk his way out of most situations. Unfortunately, his father was also a Zen addict, who died to an overdose when Quentra was ten. His mother 'retired,' doing whatever work was available to support her son. However, a local gang recognized the young elf's
skills, and decided to use Quentra at a negotiation with another gang. The meet went sour, though, and Quentra ended up with a bullet through his gut.

About to die, a pheonix appeared to him, and offered to save him, if Quentra would accept. Quentra took the offer, and awakened. He fell into the modern tradition of Chaos Magic, seeing reality as code waiting to be hacked. His mother died soon after, and Quentra raised himself from his teenage years, relying on his talents and burgeoning magical abilites to survive. He lives by himself, running for the sheer adrenaline rush it gives. A local Diablos gang has noticed Quentra's abilites, and have tapped him for the gang, though Quentra prefers running solo.

Quentra wisecracks his ways through mostly everything. He pretends to be just a fast talker, though anyone with access to the Astral can immediately see that he's awakened. For some odd reason, he can't interact with the spirit world, managing only to perceive. He snipes as a hobby, and moonlights as a decently skilled sniper for the local gangs in the area. He teaches himself magical theory through the Matrix, and spends long hours jacked in when he doesn't have a job.

Background:

Jen was always a tomboy in school. Her parents tried for awhile; but they gave up and let her win. She didn't like dolls-she liked remote control cars. She didn't like girlie cartoons-she liked anything with giant robots. She liked hanging out with her adoptive father in his garage as he tinkered with cars; he would let her hold the wrenches, and occationaly let her bang on something that wasn't breakable. Jen's adoptive parents were almost upper middle class and took care of her like she was their own; as they couldn't concieve.

In school, Jen was essentially a genius; acing advanced classes; science and math were her specialities and she knew that engineering was something she wanted to do. Well, physical education wasn't kind to her. Jen wasn't very physical and she didn't take pain very well when the volleyball hit her-but boy did she learn how to get out of the way fast. She was small and a bit skinny, and much would rather have been in shop class, which she took(and there were a couple more girls there too even!). Jen was always an honors student and she was actually quite popular in school as well; despite her tomboyish appearance and style of dress. She was as good with words as she was building or fixing stuff. Eventually, her dad would call her to help him fix things, as her knowledge started to surpass his(he was strictly amateur).

Well, her life was spelled out for her it seems; she graduated high school(at 17, well...not early, but her birthday was in the fall), and was ready to start college in the fall; naturally majoring in industrial engineering-it was actually her favorite despite getting her start on cars-she liked to imagine building, well, all kinds of different crap. Namely a giant robot one day, even though she might have to learn a bit more about things to actually get the damn thing to run. Naturally, though, as is the UCAS in the 6th World, stuff tends to backfire when you least expect it. Jen was actually all moved out of home and into her new place in Seattle(she was going to Seattle University, ironically enough!), and was eagerly awaiting for her freshman year to start.

Naturally, she got to know some folks in her apartment complex; and they were all cool with her. They were out one night at a club gig-great local thrash metal band. This place was also cool because you didn't have to be 21 to drink. Well, you did. But they didn't pay attention. After the gig, they grab a bite to eat-very normal night, pretty much. Well, until they witnessed the deal that just happened to be going on in the alleyway near the apartment complex. Well, a deal gone wrong, anyway. They also witnessed what happened when people stiff a 'Johnson', whoever that was. And then, these large persons standing around the bullet-ridden corpse saw them. Whoops.

Well, she was never much of an athletics freak or good in any kind of sport, but damned if she didn't run faster than an Olympic sprinter that night; coughing a bit(she did smoke every now and again). Her and her buddies ran. Far and fast. And hid out. For several days, in a bad part of town; surprisingly they weren't attacked. But unfortunately, some people knew her face that didn't need to know her face. Well, it wasn't good that they knew it, anyway. So she eventually got her way back to her apartment-and had to figure out what to do. She didn't feel safe anymore; and she could swear that people were watching her when she went out(and they indeed were. But they didn't strike.) Eventually getting together with a couple of friends, she decided to move-and to a very different part of town.

One day at a local bar, this black metal band was playing. She was more into thrash, but these guys weren't too bad; and their guitarist would honest to ghost cut his own chest. His spiked gloves and boots had some pretty convincing old, dry stage blood as well. After the gig, she went outside to have a smoke and she saw the guitarist-without his corpse makeup, kicking at his motorcycle that wasn't starting. She walked over, usually the helpful, pleasant person that she was and fixed it for him; he didn't seem like the friendliest guy in the world; but he thanked her and bought her a beer for her trouble. He didn't say much, but his name was Nate, or Bloodtalon as they called him. She thought the name odd but could put two and two together fast enough from the extremely real looking stageblood on his spiked arms and legs. She came back here a few times; one of the times the rather evil looking(but still somehow easy to look at) guitarist threatened someone who was getting a little too lewd with her by slamming his neck against a wall. He called it 'the rest of her payment for fixing his bike.' She realized she had a 'friend' of sorts, even though he didn't talk much about else than music or whatnot.

One thing led to another(to cut a getting to long story short)and she ended up helping him and the dwarven burglar named Kent out. She was excellent at dealing with people and her mechanical skills helped the team alot; so she is now the team's fulltime Face and Mechanic(and driver, though she's not a rigger nor has a rig.) Kent taught her how to shoot a gun if she needed it, and she figured out how to utilize a stun baton, though she hasn't had to kill anyone yet. (And she was a bit shaky when she found out the truth about Bloodtalon's 'stage blood'. Yeesh. And she wasn't usually squeamish, reading all kinds of action manga. But that wasn't, well, real. Eventually she met up with Diablo the ork and 'Silver Lotus' the elf, both of whom she got along with-especially the latter, since he basically is a living action manga character. Both of them tend to get along grandly(and Kent keeps trying to hook them up. They are both too involved with their things to realize it).

Physically 'Riki' as she came to be called(from the second syllable of her last name), is short, lightweight and fair skinned, with medium length hair to her shoulders, worn in a ponytail with bangs to her chin, that's colored a reddish violet. Her eyes are a blue-green color. She dresses rather laid back-tank tops(not too revealing, but just regular), usually in black, gray, or blue, bluejeans, sneakers, and a leather jacket. She's quite pretty in the tomboyish way(the team seems to think so, especially Julian-though the two don't flirt very openly at all.) She can dress nicely for meets, though-if she's meeting with more big-types. Doesn't like it too much, however. She adds the feminine touch(even though she's not girly) to a team of men. (Or, as she says in her no-nonsense way, to the 'sausage party'.) On runs she takes a more backseat position; she prays to a random astral diety that she won't be shot or something as she doesn't pile on alot of armor, and she really doesn't like to get hurt(she half grumpily and half jokingly admits to 'taking pain like a girl.' Though she's considered tattoos before, oddly enough.) She might decide to learn to shoot or use her stun baton better, but she could think of about three hundred other things she'd rather do with her time. She likes to outthink the opponent, anyway.

I like that. Covert Ops trolls, Ork Faces-I find myself often when i make characters trying to get away from whatever they are known for.(I rarely find myself making hit-stuff trolls, delicate elves, dwarf riggers, hit-stuff orks and the like.) I was thinking myself of a hacker for the little team im creating, and since i don't have a troll yet, ill go troll. (the team would be then human 'samurai', human face/fixit(another combo i dont see often), elven fighting adept(ok, he's got the prettyboy thing going but i took him away from the 'harmless prettyboy' archetype) ork mage-(nothing new with this guy though) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) , dwarf sneaker, troll hacker.)

But he seems really cool, can hold his own in a fight but seems to do the sneaky thing as his main schtick. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Interesting how you tied in a pretty hard-hittin fellow with Combat Paralysis; you don't see the two together alot. Kinda like he doesn't like to or want to fight but will finally do it if he has to.

Background:(Christ, why do these get longer??)

The story here is of a young ork who was company man for a week before going back to where he felt the most comfy.

Josh Rivera was born an ork to two human parents; but they managed to treat him well regardless, since they weren't a couple of racists. Spanish was his native tounge but he picked up English quickly in school, he had a good head on his shoulders. He went to a rather generic and unexeptional public school, but excelled rather well there. Josh wasn't the biggest, baddest ork around; but just, well, being an ork made him a pretty tough guy, and despite the school being a little bit on the bad side he held up quite well there. Josh's parents were working quite often to make ends meet; he sort of mixed up with different crowds in school. He enjoyed music class alot; as well as art class; but he did quite well in the more scholastic studies too.

Something happened to the young ork, though, around his 15th year; there was an incident involving him and a few of the more gang-oriented kids(he really didn't involve himself with them. He more or less hung out with the more metalhead crowd, with his longer dreadlocks and light goatee that was coming in already.) Well there was an altercation; Josh was no slouch with his fists, but eventually the larger crowd took him over-and that was when he fired off a low-power Lightning Bolt spell-not causing serious injury but giving some burns and the like to the people involved. Well, since this incident happened on school grounds, he was naturally carted off first to the headmaster and his parents were called since magic was involved-as well as school security. Well, they found out he had no idea-he didn't know he was magically active til that day. And suddently the school took a whole lot more interest in Josh; even filtering him to another branch; a branch that was more 'for his type' and out of the inner city. His classes were more challenging, but he handled them well; but he found himself not caring as much about his more high-end classmates. He liked wearing his old band shirts, jeans, and Doc Martens with his leather jacket.

He graduated with good scores at 18; and soon after was groomed for a life of corporate servitude; combat mages were in high demand, after all. His magical skills had been refined the past three years, and his six months of 'corporate boot camp' helped more; he also was taught how to fire a gun. Before he knew it, he was stuck in nicer clothes and put on the job. Which he stayed at for roughly a week.

Corporate life was not for Diablo, as he was now nicknamed, after the burns he managed to put on those guys(even though he wasn't using fire. Burns were burns. And he doesn't mind the name; as stereotypical as the name is for a Hispanic tough guy.) At the end of the week, over the weekend, he looked at the stuff in his fairly decent apartment, took a few things he thought he needed, and walked out of his life before it even started. Needless to say he was careful to take off from Denver as well; hightailing it to the west with only his motorcycle and a bag.

Being trained in a bit of corporate things he knew exactly what the whole deal with the 'shadows' were, and he did grow up in a rougher part of town. He began frequenting places that might be populated by the shadier types; he needed to set himself up with some kind of work. He was a bright guy and figured out what he needed to do. Push came to shove and he found himself drinking one night with a fixer-who just so happened to be the same fixer that some of the others would be using. Things tie together, after all. His skills as a mage, as well as being able to handle himself in a fistfight and with a gun, gave him fairly decent demand despite his lack of shadow experience. He was able to set himself up with a low-end apartment rather quickly in an ok part of town-not good, not great. Eventually he became aquaitanced with the likes of Kent, Jen/Riki, Julian/Silver Lotus, and Nate/BloodTalon. He got on pretty well with them all; Josh was an easygoing fellow and could fit in fairly well with new experiences, and he was excellent in fitting in on the streets. He found Nathan rather frightening, but learned to get on with his 'quirks'. Riki shared his taste in music; he found Julian to be a bit of a prettyboy but then realized the abilities he had and shut up after that. Kent, having done some time toughening him up, got along well with the young ork as well and realized how valuable mages were; he saw a couple of them in prison, and they were usually always cuffed with weird goggles on their heads, and always escorted by several people.

Joshua typically dresses in jeans, Doc Martens, old tshirts and an armored leather jacket;he still has his almost shoulderlength hair in dreadlocks: he has a goatee which he keeps trim on his chin, he's fairly tall being an Ork, but is a bit more lighter built for his race(though he looks like a rather sturdy human.) he likes heavy metal music(particularly thrash metal, much like Riki), and has a taste for synthahol. He's got no cyber at all in his body and never plans on it; right now he's trying to increase his magical abilities and hopes his talismonger, who happens to be magically active, can help him with that once they gain a bit of trust. Josh is a Hermetic, so everything to him is pretty formulaic. His keen mind matches well with Riki's, though he's not as technical minded, and his social skills are strictly of the streets. He adds a nice bit of magical punch to the group, though he still has quite a bit to learn. He'd like to expand his spells to more than spells that are usable either in combat or due to combat(Heal, naturally.) He wouldn't mind learning how to use some melee weapons or beefing up his unarmed; but training with Nathan makes him a bit nervous-Julian however is showing him a few things(when him or Nathan aren't beating the crap out of each other in what they nicknamed training.)

He hopes that he can possibly get an old buddy of his back in Denver to help the team out with computer things; which, at this moment, is what they lack. He thinks with the right words he can convince him. His teammates like to joke occationaly he's their 'Former Company Guy', which is kind of true, occationaly calling him 'Sir' or whatnot, to his chagrin(though he doesn't really get angry.) He is much happier he finds in this life; he just doesn't think he was cut out for the nice clothes and tie life. He likes it a little down and dirty; though he admits he is pretty happy staying low key; though he's been gone for about two and a half years now-they MIGHT still want him back.

His Increase Reflexes spell, ironically, comes into play quite often-either to help himself(he has no sustaining foci yet, but would like to pick one up when he gets money), but more often for Julian; he's stuck at 1 IP at the moment(and they don't like to see him pop Jazz so often.) Though sticking the thing on Nathan has had some rather-interesting effects; on a large casting it was made akin to something like ''that funny cartoon guy that turns into a tornado.'' He isn't the stealthiest guy in the world; he'd like to also learn some spells to help with this, and Kent, the master stealthman(well, kind of-he will be, anyway) of the group is teaching him the finer points of sneaking around when need be. He really does fancy himself eventually initiated, slinging around power that most people dream of; but not forgetting where he came from and sticking close to the streets at the same time.

Honestly, this guy is sort of an early version of another character i have; maybe in 320 point land. And im totally aware of the stereotypes here...but that was the point of the character that HE knows he's a stereotype-so im trying to sorta play down a stereotype by playing it up to high levels. Well, where to start with the young elf Julian. The best way to put it, in the words of the casting director when he saw him and his 'audition' for the latest action flick was ''Living Manga Character''. Julian his whole life wanted to be an actor; but not some ordinary boring actor-an action star more like it-action and looking good first, acting- well, a distant second. And he didn't care how stereotypical, his time in class was better spent drawing guys with trenchcoats and katanas kicking guys in the head with moves nicknamed the 'Seven Decapitating Strikes of the Serpent''. He had his battle manga collection and his stylish hard action games and movies which he played often. His parents, mildly affluent elves, actually didn't mind it; they figured that giving him martial arts classes(he took to Tae Kwan Do like a fish to water-and thankfully he was in a real Tae Kwan Do dojo and not some after-school special) would at least give him a 'trade' he could fall back on in the corporate world should his acting aspirations not bear fruit.('Enforcers' were always welcome, you know the corps.) Julian was never stupid, but he was strictly an average student in school, except for physical education which he was at the top of his class. Hell, he even kinda looked like one then with his athletic build, long light blonde hair and blue eyes. He was well-liked by most in school; he was always pretty charismatic and very good-looking, if not a bit effeminate, which of course just attracted more people to him. It was ok. He liked the attention.

Years went by, he graduated high school with ok grades, and at this point was quite formidable in Tae Kwan Do, even participating in a few tournaments. He began training with swords as well-katanas, naturally. He didn't care. Hey, he kind of liked being practically a real-life action guy. He began combing around the virtual world for auditions and the like for movies; and sure enough, one came about-it was a matter of time. It was all the way in Cali however; but he could always live there awhile; his parents had funds set aside for them and gods knew they didn't mind him getting out of the house. it wasn't a large part, but they needed someone who could kick alot of ass and then walk off the screen. Naturally they needed to be stylish in their moves and being goodlooking was a big bonus. So he actually went, had his hair bionetically permadyed to silver(yeah, silver-he was sure he'd get cast as the bad guy), and his eyes darkened to a rather stunning blue-violet. (According to many ladies, the look fit him. He never did lack for a date. Though occationally his random babble of action movies could bore some.) He went to the audition, and indeed, the casting director gave him the manga-character line when he saw him-it was a long wait but he got to show off his stuff, and they were rather impressed with it. (He had actually gone out and gotten some light cybernetic enhancements done on his already formidable speed and strength-hey, didnt hurt to help. He kind of regrets this now, after his latent abilities woke up late.) To be blunt, Julian was an action-casting director's wet dream. Charismatic, prettyboy, tall, athletic, skilled, and the whole nine. Ok, so his acting skills weren't all that great and he was no genius or anything, but since when did that count in the action movie world? Hell, he had even put some time in at the range-any good martial arts guy with a katana has a gun hidden under the longcoat.

Well, the wait would be long to know if he got the minor part. So he just kind of lived off his funds for awhile and tittered about the town, getting to know people, hitting some bars, occationaly picking up a girl-or occationaly being part of a barfight. While he was rather charming, and not overly violent, he did like to show off and saw anyone picking a fight with him(he never really instigated), a chance to do so. One day, a buddy of his he had met not too long after he moved had gotten in touch with him-he was in a little bit of trouble and wanted to know if he could help out. Well, sure, Julian had said-he's a nice guy who helps out his friends. Friend said it might be dangerous. Julian-again, while calling him stupid would be an insult-if he's got flaws he's implusive and doesn't always think things through and is a little easy to talk into things as well. But he saw this as a chance to be able to well, maybe test his fighting skills. So he agreed. He didn't want to leave his buddy in the cold. So they met at a bar to discuss what was going on; his buddy had swiped some stuff that people wanted back. Well, sure, he might could be able to handle them.

Or so he thought. They had guns. Loaded with electric ammo. Needless to say they were both knocked out due to the nice shocking power, taken somewhere, and cuffed at wrist and ankle.

They woke eventually; luckily they had slept off the worst of it, but now they were surrounded by several large, angry men in suits. With weapons. Whatever his friend had taken, it must have been important to them. They were leaving him be for the moment-but the blows they landed against his friend, and his friend's cries of pain, angered him. More. And more. And more. Until finally, the latent adept powers in him sort of snapped at the same time he did; and this was the reason he had to go into hiding.

When a guy whose almost considered a master of Tae Kwan Do suddenly doubles his strength and speed, gains the ability to make his blows even more lethal and damage armor overloads at once(ok, picture blowing Edge and getting lots and lots of sixes, since Edge blowing gets you past that pesky hits capped by magic limit), the result is not pretty. He snapped his cuffs, and he recalls a whole lot of power heading through him at once. His blows before this could be lethal if he really wanted them to; but now his legs and arms might as well have been sledgehammers. When he finally snapped back to his normal self(he sort of remembers what he was doing to them, but he doesn't like to discuss it), the several large, angry men were very dead-broken and mutiliated might have been better words. The room, him, and his friend, to put it nicely-were a mess. His friend, who had no idea what in the nine astral hells just happened, brought him to finally(Julian had zoned after) and they got out. Julian wanted to just go hide somewhere. He had to. He just committed what was basically mass murder in an old warehouse. It took him awhile to get over this; it was one instance where life imitating his violent battle-mangas was not a nice thing. Being in an action flick and doing fancy moves to pretend to beat six guys to death who just get up when the scene is over is one thing, actually doing it is something completely on a different level.

To cut it shorter; he booked it out of Cali with the help of his friend(he recalled hearing something on a trid about a 'scene from a horror trid' that happened and he REALLY booked it after that) and tried to understand his newfound powers-he never knew he was magically active. Not letting things get him down, and finally thinking in the way that if it hadn't happened-they may have well been dead-he began to accept them and focus them; and he really blossomed after that. In Seattle he had ended up eventually meeting with a fixer and getting in on some shadowjobs; skills like his were always welcome in groups, just incase. He wasn't real stealthy, but he did have some charm and social graces to help out as well, he wasn't just a walking weapon. Time passed, he got himself situated and met up with the gang; becoming the second big-hitter of the team.

He gets on well with everyone; even Nathan now(though he doesn't show it)-the two train against each other, being almost equal-Julian just might be a little better in the attack, Nathan can take the hits a bit better, and is a little better with weapons(though they seem about even, in the end). Julian want to tap his magical ability even more; he knows how limitless it really can be; though Josh, looking at him from the Astral, said he glowed like a pretty little silver Christmas bulb. No one knows why. It just might be the powers wrapping themselves to him. Kent is really trying to teach him to lay low and to be less impulsive-he's got alot of room to grow there(he never needed stealth before), and he's trying to get him to not take so much Jazz. Julian needs to sometimes move a little quicker in combat and doesn't want wires; but Josh usually helps him with a spell for that rather than see him take a popper. Julian, who now calls himself the Silver Lotus(sounded nice and action anti-hero-y, according to Riki), has to sadly put his aspirations of becoming an action star on hold until he can lay low a few years. Well, he figures by then, he'll be even better, and he might even learn to act a bit. He and Riki often have nights at one of their places watching either battle-anime or cheesy action flicks til morning; occationaly getting more than a bit drunk(and he drinks the real stuff-he has to. Josh teases him all the time about being such a prettyboy he can't handle soy.) Kent keeps wanting for them(Julian and Riki-not Julian and Josh) to hook up. They both seem too involved in lifes simple things to even care(or realize) at the moment(though its pretty obvious they flirt). He's been described physically; silver shoulder length hair, the eyes, fair skin, dresses in easy to move in cargos and heavy boots, gloves, rather tight tank tops, and yes, a longcoat. Hey, might as well at least try to look the part while he's waiting. He likes to picture himself in a short time of more training 'standing on the lamppost', watching people below, and waiting for those pesky good for nothing folks who try to push down the little guys through whatever means possible, before leaping down and raining 'justice' on their heads in the form of roundhouse kicks. Hey, that might make for a good movie...


Whew, thats the last one i have for now...but i would try to play around with a hacker, too...since this team kinda lacks one.

Y'all been busy! I have to dig into these lot when I get off work tomorrow (And start my 'weekend'... but good to see them rolling on! When you first look at it, people go, "320! Impossible!" but, truth is, after a couple tries to get the hang of it, it rolls out *very* well.

The thing about this power level is its pretty much on par with small time hoods, like in the movie Snatch, for instance. All he characters in that movie translate very easily into SR terms, but they're not really on par with "real runners."

Snatch is a really cool example. You can't say those guys are scrubs by any stretch of the word, IMO. They were pretty freaking scary people who I woulnd't want to piss off. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif)

Funny thing is, in doing this-i'm trying to figure out what the real big difference is somewhat-and IMO, more than Attributes, Skills, or whatnot-I think Resources are a large thing that differentiates the ''lower end'' from the ''higher end''. I mean, a 320 point character, as we have proven here, can be very effective at what they do. When i run lower point games, I do have a bit of a difference-I let them spend the full 200 on Attributes like you would in a 400 BP game. I sort of have the idea that lower-end folks might have excellent raw potential, but not too good resources or gear, and maybe not as much training, hence the 1 5 rating and the rest at 3 or less/2 4's and the rest at three or less, skill-wise.

I mean, Joe and Jack Runner are standing next to each other. Joe is a 320 BP guy, Jack a 400 BP guy. Joe's raw Attributes might well be just as good as Jack's-hell, his could be even better, because he's had to rely on them more without the gear and training that higher-ends have. But Jack's had some more training(he uses the normal skill rules in the BBB), and hell of a lot better gear and ware and the like. Quite a big seperation. You can even see the difference in 400 BP guys-take a look at a sprawl ganger vs. a street samurai or former merc/company man. The ganger i almost guarentee has some raw attibutes out the wazoo, but those other guys cream him in gear, training, and ware.

But this has been fun. And Wak, you have your work cut out for you reviewing these guys. We dropped a character-cluster bomb on your head here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Background:

Pixie knows little of her origins, having spent her earliest years in the local orphanage. All she had included an antique ring, a photograph, and a name; Amanda Pruett. As she grew it quickly became apparent that she was different from others, because she never really grew. Not at the rate of the other kids in the orphanage. The fact was, she was suffering from what 20th century scholars called dwarfism, but was perfectly proportioned. She was, for all intensive purposes a midget.

Unfortunately, the fact that she was an elf as well as a midget guaranteed her a hard time in the orphanage. Constantly bullied by her peers at the orphanage, Amanda sought the solace of the written word and began reading all she could, especially books dealing with fairy tales. These often took her places that the bullies could not touch her.

It was on Amanda’s 15th birthday when she Awakened, much to the dismay of her assailants at the time. News of her abilities reached Professor McTavish, who brought the young girl to the university to study; he studying her abilities, and she studying anything she could get her hands on, especially the history and tales of the elves. McTavish became a surrogate father to the young teen, and always provided her with a place when in need. But the world called to Amanda, and she was ready for it.

Taking what little she had, she moved to one of the poorer sections of town and began looking for work. Professor McTavish had already put her in touch with Simon Reh to aid in her studies, and, after some additional training in the magical arts and swordplay, he in turn sent her to Mika Graves to find work. She took the street name of Pixie and began to dress as she felt a faerie would in this day and age.

Description:

Pixie stands at just under 4 feet tall, with bright red hair (sometimes blonde, sometimes purple, depending on mood and dyes available), and deep blue eyes (all natural). Often found dressed in Victorian style clothing (all of which have a small set of butterfly-wings on the back), Pixie tries to play the part of a Faerie to the fullest. On warm days she tends to wear just the corset and pants, but when it gets cold, her Overcoat is ready for service. Several knives encircle her waist as well as a beautiful rapier with a silver inlayed guard in a scabbard on her hip. She tends to stay away from things electronic since they tend to fritz out on her, and keeps a spare set of glasses and commlink with her, just in case.
