more or less meh . . i liked the one with boanerges better . . it's more realistic to shadowrun from a players point of view . . much more magic in the group than statistically realistic for the game world and an enemy with limited funds so only a small more shadowrunner like mercenary group . .
and i like the kind of combat they have, with gentleman-like rules and all and not an open field fight ^^

in Aftershocks i liked the Troll, Hood . . Robin Hood *g*

Aftershocks, as I said before, seemed the best of the Post-FASA Novels that I've read. Did a really good job of it.

But I'm slamming my head into my desk, as I'm sure some people will think I ripped off Hood with my own character "Money" Johnson. Sorry, he was whipped up a year before I read Aftershocks!

these newer novels are kinda hit and miss. No single one i very truely enjoyed, but they all had their bits and peices of interest.

Yeah, I'm really hoping that CGL will redeem the novels!

What I found the novels' greatest faults before I stopped reading them - sometime past the awful Dragonheart trilogy - was that there was so much exotic stuff in them. It was as if the authors couldn't create a story and characters that were interesting on their own, so they covered it up with "special" stuff. World-threat this, Uber-Magic that. New special monster this, new special cyberware that.

In addition to that, a troll archer alone is enough for me to condemn a novel to the trash pile.

I don't do trolls! Or orks! Or even Dwarves! I might stoop to the level of a mere human, but that would have to be a special case. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

QUOTE (Hocus Pocus @ Jun 23 2008, 09:22 PM) *
so how did you like the novel?

I found the authors take on how magic worked interesting. I did not care for one description of trying to recall a long ago spell they once saw/used (it wasn't clear and almost sounded like they were learning the spell on the spot by remembering how someone else cast it.) The fighting from the rooftop of the moving vehicle was hokey, but something I always seem to encounter in a gaming group. The troll climbing out the driver's side window (with his bow and arrows slung over his shoulder) while having the near unconscious elf with no driving skill drive was about as far fetched as things got for me. I lost my suspension of disbelief. This after the authors made a point of having the troll at the rear of the party in case the environment reacted badly to his size.

All in all, I thought it was an improvement over the Kenson trilogy and even some of the later novels when the series was more active.
