I'm looking for good music that puts you in a Shadowrunning mood.
I have four songs so far, and are looking for more in the vein of each. Those songs are (in no particular order) Seventeen Years by Ratatat, Kingdom by VNV Nation, The Beginning is the End is the Beginning by the Smashing Pumpkins (AKA the Watchmen trailer music), and Feuer Frei by Rammstein. I know they're all different genres, but they all represent to me different aspects of the game and its world. So anything that matches up with even just one is fine. So... help, please? Here is the list of mood music from my Play by Post campaign
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHADHxkgc40 End of Days by VNV Nation. The breakout single by Dark Angel, a musician who died tragically from a BTL overdose just when he was about to break into the big leagues. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXBHPQjW-Q8 Aldhissla by Finntroll. The warmup song for the live TrogMetal band that was playing at the bar where the runners first met their Fixer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3cUzsFRTjA Random Electric Trance Music. The music playing at the night club frequented by the Awakened where they met their Johnson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0s5UOVsMDg Perfect Drug by NIN. When the team investigated a shithole BTL den. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ1UVqKk0AA Angry Young and Poor by Anti-Flag. When the team arrived at a popular hangout for Seattle street musicians. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdYrUQQkTdU God only knows... some kind of weird trance music. Playing over the speakers when the team went to the Plastic Jungles. The shaman who escorted them explained that the plants 'liked it'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RERXiliJfdI Rising by the Yoshida Brothers. The 'latest pop track out of Japan'. Playing when the runners went to meet with the Yakuza at a high end night club. That's all I have so far... There were a couple other ones that were removed by Youtube so I couldn't link to them. |

First off, thanks for all the suggestions.
Pretty much everything here and in the other thread has been a little more... trance-y(?) than I'm looking for. I think "techno rock" is sort of a good description, and something that feels really intense. This is more a game about outrunning the opposition than anything. Think dark corridors, lots of gunfights. Action-packed. Adrenaline. But also clearly in the future. lol. "Techno rock." "Cyber punk." This amuses me. |

If you have Time Warner as a cable provider they have music channels on TV, for me its the channels between 700 and 790. Chanel 717 is Uncensored Electronica. That genra seems to get me in the mental state to play.

For me it's a wild mix of lots of things. I actually have an array of short iTunes playlists ready for different situations. It includes:
Several pieces from the Silent Hill 2 Soundtrack (great for the more fucked up parts of the Barrens, Glow City, toxic areas, etc.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZcTegJtlcE Stuff by Frank Klepacki (Game Music composer, responsible for stuff like Red Alert's "Hell March") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFIT4gZUtb8...feature=related Some tracks by German Gothic Act "Das Ich" (for dark, dank night clubs with soulless, pumping music) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6g2NG9SOvI Anthony Rother (German Electro Artist, doing a rather Kraftwerk'esque sound) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx6VdVhxYps Stuff from the Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Soundtrack (mostly for prolongued astral activities) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQPAqXMssuQ Lots of Future Sound of London: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnGE3BVE_cI Fear Factory and Dillinger Escape Plan for anything Trog Rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-0hmBkkWBMd and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZncEPhWUDsw I'm not quite satisfied with what I use as equivalent for Orxploitation-related stuff. Currently I only have a few pieces by Molotov in there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boTKLuI7nzM recommendations are welcome. I round things up with a few pieces of Underworld, Juno Reactor here and there and some Creative Commons stuff I find on the web. I got some nice remixes of the System Shock 1 soundtrack (you kno, this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1KU1nHxgwg ). |

Everytime I see these threads I think back to our music choices from 1st and 2nd edition. Queensryche (Mindcrime) and any KMFDM both showed up in SR art and fit the genre for that time frame. Since then we've had a strange assortment of mood music playing low in background. Techno/electric, mood music, soundtracks, an entire CD with songs containing shadow in the title. But most recently we've mixed in some old and new melodic metal to fit our current party of misfits.

Lots of good recommendations in this thread: thanks, everyone.
Even if you don't ever use any of this for Shadowrun (and I think bits of it work) it's worth watching, but make sure you've got a bit of time, and you're in a reflective sort of mood. It's by a British Asian called Nitin Sawhney. It's called The Prophecy. Excellent stuff, I think, and I listen to it driving to my SR game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJW69CjJeSg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUBDhdrWSo8 |

Deacon Blues, Razor Boy, FM, and Royal Scam by Steely Dan.
I'm not real big on the German industrial techno and goth-rock that's usually associated with cyberpunk (a la The Matrix). That stuff makes my teeth hurt. Will you still have a song to sing when the Razor Boy comes and takes your fancy things away? |

Probably Kealing And Stilling by PJVM : http://www.lastfm.de/music/PJVM/Svanstr%C3...ng+And+Stilling Or Battle Royale by Does It Offend You, Yeah? : http://www.lastfm.de/music/Does+It+Offend+..._/Battle+Royale Not my favourite tracks by them, and not my favourite artists in their respective genres, but for the intended mood, they might fit. I'm not real big on the German industrial techno and goth-rock that's usually associated with cyberpunk (a la The Matrix). That stuff makes my teeth hurt. I feel your pain, even though German "medieval" metal is actually worse than that. |

Yes, Shadowrun accompanied by Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, Warlock, Stratovarius, Running Wild... . Thankfully I've grown up. |
