The rest were either clearly not fully formed or had complete entries but no subtotals. I didn't want to go through item lists and Qualities etc. one by one. Thanks for that, at least. I expect that Kingfisher is correct, as I was using the excel sheet (though its math is off on occasion). I'd likely have to do it manually to check, and I don't fancy that, but as I was making things I was checking for accuracy (I found a skill box that for some odd, indeterminate reason didn't register the ranks, so I left it blank and used the next one). |

I thought someone might be sensitive about arithmetic. Of the ones that had category totals, I counted: Syren: 840 Azael: 803 Count Blacula: 827 Sir Thomas: 743 (no contacts listed) The rest were either clearly not fully formed or had complete entries but no subtotals. I didn't want to go through item lists and Qualities etc. one by one. Peter Yeah, Sir Thomas is low, although I didn't realize I'd left him *that* many points left. I have a hard time with knowledge skills, contacts, lifestyle, and the such, so I tend to leave characters with some BP left... In actual games, I usually sit with someone else to get them finished off. I'll doublecheck my numbers for his spreadsheet tomorrow, just to make sure he really has that many points left to spend, then I'll take suggestions from people for how ot spend the rest of it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) |

Knowledge skills are the hardest thing for me to do. I rarely end up with something that's useful.

Hmm...3 points over on Azael, very odd number-usually it's something like +/-5-15 or something or other. (Or what I usually do anyway. I've gone too high/too low before, and it's usually by a more significant amount.)
Which means I'm going to have to do some harsh combing to find out where I went over 3 BPs, since I used BPs to build him with(only used Karma to initiate.) I might just knock a Contact down or something, should be the most painless way of taking care of it. Honestly, I sometimes *prefer* when I go over by a nice 10-20 points, as it's usually much easier to catch than the 1-3 point needle in the haystack. Of course, it's also more painful to adjust if you go too far over. I also realized I have to update his background to fit the Awakened version. It probably wouldn't be much different; perhaps he Awakened in prison, or in the pits. Or he was awakened before, and just ended up ''funneling his powers'' during those times of greater stress. |

Celestial Servant:
090 Race (65+25) -10 Net quality BPs 350 Attribute BPs 130 Skill Groups 088 Skills + Specs 030 Sustaining Foci (100k¥, bound at chargen) 039 Spells (13) 031 Connections + Magical Group 016 other Ressources ---- 764 before initiation, which is bad - the Initiate degree of 4 costs 40 karma. Looks like "other ressources" has to be taken down to 60k¥. |

Well, Ryu, others are using assisted Initiation, why don't you for Celestial Servant?

OH! I forgot to adjust the score for Assisted Initation for Azael.
That not only takes care of it, but leaves a couple of points left over. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Sounds good to me. |

Not sure if this is still going, but at my GM's suggestion I'm ramping up my Razor Eddie build to 800 bp for this. Should be interesting, as he's pretty damn scary at 400. Razor Eddie's a melee-oriented possession mage, based on the god from Simon Greene's Nightside novels. Most of the extra 400 is going to go towards an ally spirit.
I'll also work up my idea for a possession-tradition hacker--basically a mystic answer to the technomancer. |

What would certainly make that character way more effective is the fifth initiation instead of the "Though as nails(2)" quality. The metamagic of choice would be "Advanced Masking". The leftover BP could actually raise ressources a bit. |

Possessed by a snake, and yeah...that smile is rather fitting for a possessed dude. I do really like it. Creepy is right! -- Gah, I'm kind of having a visual brainfart here, and I can't find the cost to assisted initiation, which our fellows seem to be doing(if the other fighter-folks are in for the fighting-group.) I want to actually see just how much Azael saves; it's more than 3 BP I have a feeling, and if so, I can actually toss something else onto him, perhaps. *still shamefully la...erm, busy and needs to update the background to include the magic awakening.* |

Street Magic, page 50: 20% off (rounded up) for group initiation, another 20% off (rounded up) for ordeals, for a total of 40% (rounded up) if you use both.

Mind that there's a 5 Karma cost for joining a group, so unless you initiate a second time you won't save Karma (and all of 1 if you initiate twice as group+ordeal).

Hmm, so...
13k(level 1 initation), x.40(Group + Ordeal, i guess we're assuming ordeals?)=5.2, round to 6(since it's round up). 16k(Level 2): x.40=6.4, round to 7. 13 Karma saved 5 to join 8 Karma saved. Brings Azael down to 795 points, of which I could put either on Contacts or to Resources, if I did the math right. ...for the record, I usually don't min-max this hard. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif) But I figure since I didn't add the group stuff in, why not? |

Yes, I at least am assuming ordeals. I´ve rarely seen undiscounted initiations in a game anyway.

I decided not to use group initiation for Uncle Zola for fluff reasons. In New Orleans, the Zobop criminal organization appears from the literature to be corralling Voodoo houngans, so I figured the individualist Zola wouldn't get involved with something that might link him to them or worse, indebt him to them.
On the other hand, Bongo Slade and Syren formed their own group. Peter |

So, I have been playing with an adept I have had floating around for a few years. I wondered how he might fit into this group. I present him here for folks to have a gander and a chuckle. In his back story, he transforms from Kasimir the Ugly, to Borat the Indestructible, to...

It was just pointed out to me in another thread that I have been applying the Increase Attribute (xxx) spell incorrectly... conveniently ignoring the fact that it has to be cast at a Force equal to or greater than the base value of the Attribute being improved. So, for Uncle Zola, I have been improving his CHA and WIL and sustaining those effects with Foci too small. Now, he could sustain those spells anyway without Foci, but the improvement would be lessened by 4 (-2 dice for each sustained spell).
I am going to have to rethink him. Damn. He's still scary, dammit! Still scary! Peter EDIT: Hah! Hah again I say! So they think they can beat me, over there in that other thread where they showed me my error? Hah! So, I gave up on Uncle Zola being the most charismatic individual on Earth, but only by a touch. And I gave up sustaining the Increase WIL through a Focus. What I got in return, though, is pretty good. See Post #58 for the updated Uncle Zola. What I did: Drop Exceptional Attribute (CHA) Quality -- gain 20 BP Change CHA from 8 to 6 -- gain 20 BP give up the F3 (health) sustaining Focus -- gain 9 BP TOTAL +49 BP Raise Sustaining Focus 4 to 6 (to hold F6 Increase CHA spell, or Incr. Reflexes spell) -- lose 6 BP Raise Power Focus from 3 to 7 (!!) -- lose 24 BP Raise EDG from 3 to 4 -- lose 10 BP Raise Counterspelling from 2 to 4 -- lose 8 BP Add 1 service to bound Water spirit -- lose 1 BP TOTAL -49 BP So Uncle Zola is 3 dice weaker for Drain Resistance, but 4 dice stronger for all Magic related Tests; must sustain the Increase WIL spell if he really wants it, but gets 2 more dice to resist spells; gets another service from the spirt; and gets one more EDG to save his hoop. All in all, I think it's OK. He will have to be a little more conservative in his summoning now... that's the part that hurts the most. And that little doll on his belt is F7 and REALLY scary now. And so is Uncle Zola!! Peter |
