Frankly, all of that double spacing on the stats made it almost painful to read. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wobble.gif)
Good background, eccentric but most of the builds here are far from "trenchcoat". SURGE might actually have fit his background (except that might take the focus away from his awakening as his big moment of change) - the metagenetic attribute improvement is better than exceptional attribute, since it is a bonus as well as an increase to the maximum rating. Stat-wise, replace the counterspelling focus with a shielding focus - same cost, but works on all spells. If you can find a way to squeeze in another initiation, this build almost begs for reflecting. Why just jam it, when you can send it screaming back right at them? Are those two focus-disrupting spells from the Digital Grimoire? They seem incredibly limited, at least by the descriptions. I've never quite understood that tactic, actually. Why take out someone's focus, when the same amount of magical energy could take out them? I don't have the PDF, though, so for all I know, they could actually be pretty effective spells. |

Frankly, all of that double spacing on the stats made it almost painful to read. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wobble.gif) Yeah, I am having trouble figuring out why I get that double spacing when I cut and paste from Word. Sorry. If someone knows, please tell me. QUOTE Good background, eccentric but most of the builds here are far from "trenchcoat". SURGE might actually have fit his background (except that might take the focus away from his awakening as his big moment of change) - the metagenetic attribute improvement is better than exceptional attribute, since it is a bonus as well as an increase to the maximum rating. I'll look into that, thanks, though I wonder about the BP cost. QUOTE Stat-wise, replace the counterspelling focus with a shielding focus - same cost, but works on all spells. The Shielding focus is actually half the nuyen cost! But twice the availability target, which is not an issue here. Shielding only works as spells are being cast, but the counterspelling focus Stardust has is for combat spells, and none of those can be sustained/quickened anyway. This is a great point, and may make one or both of the above suggestions affordable. Thanks again. The focus disruption spells are indeed from DG. Stardust learned them for a theoretical reason. Their function conforms to his theory that he can learn about magic as it is being taken apart. He believes he can learn something from the way power disintegrates. This is not RAW, it's just Stardust. And he has two foci he can practice on... power and counterspelling. A second reason may simply be he figures it may be useful someday to keep the mage alive, but weakened. Hey, Stardust is a little 'out there'. So are these spells. If I rethink the focus he has, I may rethink the spells too. Peter |

OK, I edited Stardust a bit, to do the following:
- switch the counterspelling focus for a shileding focus - drop the disrupt counterspelling spell (but keep the disrupt power focus spell) - reduce gear a bit - drop Binding skill by 1 - initiate a third time, but not to take Reflecting (though it is cool) but to take Cleansing, as it is more up Stardust's theoretical alley, as it and the to-be-taken-later Filtering work in things like background count, and in fact -may- be effective against things like Astral Hazing. This last gives Stardust a broader magical skill set, which obviously fits his modus operandi, and allows him to study another kind of magical disintegration. Peter |

As far as the BP cost for SURGE goes, it is actually cheaper. You buy SURGE II for 10 BP, get metagenetic improvement/Logic for your 20 points of positive SURGE qualities, pick 10 points of negative SURGE qualities (which don't count against your limit), and overall you've saved 10 BP, at the expense of having to pick 10 points of negative SURGE qualities, but those could enhance your concept if you picture him with an unusual look (silvery skin and slightly luminescent eyes, for example).

The SURGE stuff looks profitable, Glyph, but I can't see it fitting Stardust's story all that well. And I think I've played with his stats enough. So I'll keep that stuff in mind for another character.
Thanks, Peter |

BTW, something I noticed in my own build that may garner a few more BP if you haven't already found it:
It's cheaper to buy a maxed stat with Karma than it is with BP. I recovered some 25 points, though I haven't figured out where they're going yet. |

I'm thinking a 15 Agility twinked Elven Gunbunny from hell, just for you guyz that don't like el'vz. Though with a Human or Orc I could get up to a 13 Agility and be happy with it... NAAAAAAA... 15 Agility is the target.
(Fore ya ask, 7 base + 1 Genetic + 1 Exceptional + 1 Surge = 10 (15)) |

I think we need some Fictional Shadowrunners to round out the builds.
Presenting: Karl Kombat Mage! "You stole my soul, my family, and my future. Your life is fair payment!" [ Spoiler ] With only a magic of 4, Karl is going to do a lot of overcasting. However, aside from spirits and astral entities, he will be doing most of his destruction dealing with his his trusty SMG (which the Fluff said was used in Combat Mage: TNG; so I felt obligated to give him that) or his heavy weapons. Karl buffs himself up with Imp. Reflexes 4 and Combat Sense 6, which he uses his Foci to sustain. On the rare occasions when stealth is needed (right!), he can do the same with Imp. Invisibilty and Stealth. I made his enemy corporation Ares, but it can be swapped out to be anyone. He has an addiction and a weakness to two Ares created drugs, to give it that larger than life flare. |

He lives! I was beginning to worry about you, Jake.
I've sort of issued a challenge to InfinityzeN... a duel (non-lethal of course) between Oro the Unstoppable and the best InfinityzeN can come up with. I figure something like MapTool, with the contributors to this thread linked in as spectators; a plain, dusty-earth terrain, maybe some sagebrush, with two icons, Oro and Lightning-Elven-Gunbunny; the whistling theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in the background. (Oowee-oowee-ooooooo...) |

Reading over Uncle Zola, I found a few errors. I fixed Foci, their costs, and some of the tactical clues text. Post #58.

It's a good build, InfinityzeN - most of the other combat builds were close combat specialists, so a ranged guy is good. It's still kind of ... jarring... to see a ranged specialist, with all of that senseware, who will still need goggles or contacts to use his smartlink.

Ran out of space in the eyes, and Smartlink didn't make sense for the Suite. And he is not that bad at close combat, rolling 20 dice with 7P damage.
*EDIT* Thought about it. He was in the SF, so he should have a military version. Updated. |

Well, Watcher certainly fits this group. Insanely dangerous, and insane to boot! Welcome!
It should be fun to see how the magically active in this group (including all four I created!) respond to astral hazing in their midst. I guess it is good he can be the 'God shot' from afar. It would be an interesting experiment to see how Bongo Slade's music affects Watcher. |

Yea, its a good thing most people who work with him don't realize just how nucking futs he is. I gotta get around to putting together the rest of his gear and he'll be done.
I think next I'm going to tackle a plan run'o'd'mill hacker. It seems everyone is building awakened characters so a few mundanes should round out the group nicely. |
