Combat Options pg. 200 ED Core 1st edition

Aggressive Attack - +3 steps to attackers attk and Dmg step. Defender also receives +3 steps to attack against the attacker due to the fact that they aren't defending as well.

Attack to KnockDown - same as standard attack, except that the targets target number to resist knock down is the total damage, modified by armor. As opposed to resisting knockdown only when the target takes a wound, and the target # being the difference between their wound threshold and the damage dealt. Knockdown is resisted with a strength test.

- Penalities for knockdown is -3 to all steps for actions, and -3 to physical and spell defense

Called Shot -3 steps to attack . Hits called area if attack succeeds.

Defensive Stance - +3 to physical defense

Going inside a shield - subtract the shield's armor rating from the attackers initiative to bypass the shield, basically attacking before the defender can get their shield in the way. If the modified inititive is less than the defenders, the defender manages to get their shield in the way, knocking hte attack aside. Attacker then receives -2 steps to the attack test.

Giving Ground - defender back steps, giving gorudn to the attacker. +1 Physical defense for every 3 feet given. Defender can give 3 feet for every rank in the combat being used (i.e. rank 5 melee weapons defender can give 15 feet). Defender takes 1 point of strain for giving ground.

King Varulus III, King of Throal

King of Throal, Varulus has been hailed as a visionary and great leader in this new age, as the people of Barsaive struggle to find a sense of direction in their shattered world. Throal has risen to greatness under Varulus, becoming a leader in modern Barsaive, with influence across the region.
Varulus himself is considered a wise and well respected leader across most of Barsaive. He has a reputation as a scholar and an intellectual, traits that have served him well thus far. Over the past few years, the King has begun to spend more of his time at his studies, ceding much of the running of the kingdom to his only son, Prince Neden.

Prince Neden

The Crown Prince and only child of the King and Queen, Neden is a Warrior and independent thinker. He spent many years working and fighting with the Arm of Throal, the military of the kingdom, also training as a calvary rider and a leader. He prefers the straightforward manner of the battle field over court intrigue, although he has had to come to grips with the reality of his life, as his father has set more of the responsibilities of the kingdom on his shoulders. Now finding himself dealing with his houses' rivals in the court, he has had to find ways to change his habits and tactics.
An adult dwarf of some 30+ years, Neden is a man in hiw own right, although his father casts a very long shadow.

Merrox, Master of the Hall of Records

Merrox is a name as well known throughout Barsaive as that of the King himself. Merrox's own accomplishments and integrity have earned him the respect he is awarded, to the point where the Master Scholar has even come and gone freely to the Theran Empire to learn first hand the knowledge he would need for an accounting of that entity. Merrox is, on top of his duties to the Library, an adivsor to the King, and some say a good friend. Rumors also suggest that he tutors Prince Neden on how to handle the Court, and perhaps other things that the King cannot handle personally.

Headband of Kedar the Dark

This black leather headband has a black pearl set in it, making the wearer look as if the pearl was a third eye.
Rank 1 - 200LP Key Knowledge: The headband belonged to the swordmaster Kedar, who died at the hands of the horror Duaga. Kedar's lover, the wizard Leea Amberdust, made the headband to safeguard him.
Effect: Add +2 to the wearer's Social Defense.

Rank 2 - 300LP Knowledge : Must know the name of the person that created the headband.

EffectThe headband adds +1 to the wearer's Mystic Armor Value.

Rank 3 - 500LP Knowledge: The wearer must learn the relationship between the headband's creator and it's ownder.
Effect: The headband adds +1 to the wearer's Armor Value.

Rank 4 - 800LP Knowledge: The wearer must learn the name of the horror that slew Kedar.
Effect: The wearer can detect the influence of a Horror.To use this ability, the wearer must make a Perception Test against the Spell Defense of the Target, or the Horror controlling the Target; whichever is higher. successful test reveals that a Horror controls the Target.

Arcane Mutterings
The Arcane Mutterings talent allows a character to confuse others by uttering dire and largely incomprehensible warnings. Arcane Mutterings has no effect when used against targets engaged in combat.

The character makes an Arcane Mutterings Test against the target's Social Defense. If the character is attempting to
use the talent against more than one character, he makes the test against the highest Social Defense Rating among the
group, +1 for each additional character.
That becomes the Difficulty Number forthe test. On a Good success or better, the target characters become confused and feel a slight unease. They will take no hostile action while under the effects of Arcane Mutterings as long as no one takeshostile action against them. The effect of Arcane Mutterings lasts a number of rounds equal to the character's Arcane Mutterings Rank. During this time, the character must continually "mutter" or else the effect ends. While suffering from the effects of Arcane Mutterings, the characters are disheartened, which makes them easier to affect using other social talents. If other characters are also attempting to overcome the Social Defense of the targets, add
a bonus equal to the wizard's rank in Arcane Mutterings to any tests he makes for social interaction.
