I'm wondering how you would all make a Deadpool character stat wise, and what cyberware and gear you'd give him?

impossible really . .
even if you do leave out the regenerating part of him . . he'd need to get at least agility high as hell, and then every weapons skill in the books maxed out . . no cyber or bio for him either . . maybe some gene-tweakings but that's it . . |

So while the exact character is impossible in the SR universe (healing factor alone), you can recreate a similar character. In the past, I'd create varied Marvel or DC characters in the SR universe. They key is to not get hooked up on creating the exact character, but a copy designed to replicate most or all of the character's abilities. Figure a runner with an obsession with 20th century comics goes and gets a serious set of body mods to do it. Shit, people get tattoos and plastic surgery to look like animals today. Going seriously into cybernetics and bodymods in the future is not so out of the realm of possibility.
So here's what you do. Figure out what he *can* do, and then give him the stuff you need to match that. Ultra high agility? Muscle toner time. Fast regen? Platelet factories and trauma dampeners. Etc. |

you could also use fast healing (i think) quality to heal more oftin or surge for regeneration add some negative derangements and your set... as i remember he just was a dude who used to have cancer and gained regen for savit through wpn-x sooo he would need surge with regen and gene freak(the horid scaring he gets from regen) andthen go for eatheer adept powers or bio were for agility boosting but skills would be fine too

As the most awesome character in comic book history, skill wise you'd have to have maxed out gymnastics, combat abilities, bantering (specializing in "breaking the 4th wall") and go from there.Stat-wise, Namelessjoe has a good start but you could definitely use some cyberware to represent his natural abilities, wired reflexes and muscle augmentation would be good choices.

Spirit pact with a creature that has regeneration - every day. Or that compound that gives the character regeneration, I forget where/what ity was.

You could use an infected or a great form possession plant spirit. It's a deviation from the concept but hey, he heals up nicely until Nightcrawler teleports his head to a crater ...

The comic book version of Deadpool has regenerated, in minutes, from a puddle of organic goo.
I don't think SR has anywhere near that quick or total a healing power. Technically, it's not so much healing as it is a bizarre variant of cancer. Every cell in his body is cancerous, only his unique physiology allows him to function despite the affliction. His cells replicate so quickly that disease, injury, and toxins are wiped out in minutes. The downside is that it's not a pleasant process. His body is a mass of scars and raw flesh, constantly in flux. He's always in pain as his nervous system undergoes continuous warping and shredding. At least part of his mental freakazoid-ness comes from the "power" as well, as his brain is just as messed up as the rest of him. -karma |

in other words, deadpool was/is a ironic look at the best selling superheros in marvels portfolio...
kinda like how watchmen took some of the iconic golden age heros and retold them in a more realistic image... for some reason, i find myself tired of these kinds of things lately... |

its more this "here is how these media tropes would unfold if the characters in them was anything close to mentally realistic" that tires me...
in the end it gives me something of the same feel that i get from reading lists of flaws found in movies and similar (wrong plants in the hobbit gardens, con trails overhead for instance). or for that matter what was touched upon in a different thread, the "need" to deconstruct a story or similar, writing/talking at length about its individual part. cant we ignorant dinosaurs just have our badwrongfun in peace, please? |

*shrugs*
i actually am a very big fan of the wolverine series . . i once had ALL OF THE COMICS in my possession . . at that point in time, there were about 600 or so i think . . but i LOVE somthing silly like deadpool especially after having just read the whole wolverine shebang . . how many layers of brainwashings were there? how many times was that man married? how many of his wives got killed off again and again? how many of the people close to him got killed off? and how many was he forced to kill? i think i actually lost count on how often he lost and regained his adamantium . . at least 3 times . . so i read something silly like deadpool . . and they fuck me over with making him emo about not being able to stay dead with the sexy death waiting for him <.< . . and loki of all people making him beautifull as a course? and the whole story about him not being him? or him not remembering himself being himself? the voodoo man was actually wade wilson? or WAS deadpool wade wilson? i don't know, there were circles inside of triangles inside of rectangles <.< . . also i just read: QUOTE Deadpool will appear in the upcoming 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine in which he will be played by Ryan Reynolds. Wizard Magazine ranked Deadpool the 182nd best comic book character of all time, of their list of the Top 200 Comic Book Characters of All Time. [2] *twitch twitch* |

You can get 90% of the way there by making Deadpool have an ally spirit with the regeneration power posses him, which actually does almost all his powers. Give him channelling, and away you go.

no.
he will still not know that he is a character played by a total nerd. and using magic is cheating ._. i was working on an idea to do the little yellow boxes . . really small, maybe implanted holographic projector hooked up to his brain via DNI ^^ would also nicely explain the holographic imaging disguise |

Why not? That works even better in a way, he is literally being controlled by a third party

i still say using magic for someone so obviously not magic is cheating in creation <.< . .
with things like the ghost-rider and other such magically happening characters, okay . . . but deadpool is more or less doable without any magic, aside from the regeneration thing |

but deadpool is more or less doable without any magic, aside from the regeneration thing ... the regeneration thing which works so well he can recover from any injury ... like magic? (in a twisted toxic sort of way) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Screw it. Stat him as an amnesiac free spirit with regeneration and realistic form. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Inhabitation flesh form, maybe.
That said, I think Constantine would come off better in Shadowrun than Deadpool. (I looked up deadpool, okay? I'm busy reading 60 years of marvel comics through wikipedia, and constantine, the "blue collar warlock" seems like any Joe Mage.) |

The comic book version of Deadpool has regenerated, in minutes, from a puddle of organic goo. I don't think SR has anywhere near that quick or total a healing power. SR4 doesn't, but in SR3 Regeneration gave you a 2/3 chance of recovering from that level of damage in 3 seconds. Seriously, the way Regeneration worked then was you rolled 1d6 with a TN of either 2 or 3, depending on the level of damage (3 was for severe burns, brain trauma, and everything beyond) and it all healed totally at the end of he combat turn. And you only had to roll for deadly damage and beyond. If your monitor wasn't full then you didn't have to roll at all. But Regeneration was also much harder to get back then and the only method for a PC to obtain it (Immortal Flower) caused Essence loss if you regenerated took too much damage. Vampires are incredibly dangerous in SR3 for this reason alone. |
