Jamie's got microtransmitter, rating 4 with encryption of 4. I figured she was going to close to the rest of the crew, so ECCM was not as needed. But security was more critical so I bumped the encryption.

EDIT I just realized that level of encryption will reduce my range. I'm going to adjust my IC post.

Did you ever take look at sr3's broadcast encryption rules? Even encryption 1 is enough to make sure your average decryption tiem is approx 5 minutes!

The biggest issue with all the sr3 electronic communications is the flux rating and how far you can transmit and receive, especially for riggers.

I found it interesting that they included the following:
Broadcast communications may not be recorded and decrypted later.

Otherwise a decker could quickly make an end run around the rules.

@Bastard: Lets move things forward to the meet with Radek. The Clayton Club Saloon is just a staging point to have a late lunch, get together before the meet and hand out the personal comm-systems. The meet-setup is already covered here

@Juan: Feel free to describe the Clayton Club Saloon scene and introduce Ludmilla. Lets get going.

I'm ready to move on as well. I'm working on a wrap up post now. I just don't understand what Kliko is saying. Jamie should. This is her area of expertise. As far as I know, a cellular interface you can actually run the Matrix with is costly in time and nuyen.

My commlink should work fine. I can wire it into the deck and it should override the ASIST interface for sound.

I'll just need to be jacked in within range of the meet. I suspect Kliko is trying to shut Jamie in a van, but since I don't have a wireless link, that will not allow me to be connected. I was thinking a nearby coffin motel myself.

it is Jamies field of expertise (Kliko just didn't thought about coffin motels). Both Kliko and Ludi are proficient with electronics.

Ludi was actually a signal interception specialist in the army, and has a background in electronic engineering as well as codebreaking. So, in a nutshell, she's very good with electronics (both applied and as a B/R skills). If Jamie needs her to, she can probably crack almost anything open to run a dataline tap in.

I'm working on a post to move Jamie up to the meet.

Kliko, should I assume you send the meet location to Jamie shortly after you get it?

Already done. Its a safe presumption that the saloon is in radio range. They might even have a cyberterminal in the back.

So I noticed. I missed the post.

Bastard, I'll have the time to do a search test for finding the jackpoint. Do you want me to do the roll, or do you want hand wave it?

Dice rolls for already known tests:

Microtransciver patchwork install
Electronics B/R TN 4
5,6 - 2 successes
Computer B/R TN 4
5,5 - 2 successes

Browse Design
Operational Utility Design: 4 TN 4
4,2,1,1
Jeez, I got the one success I wanted. I sure expected more.

Kliko - One of my favorites!

galenbd - There is not a jack point in the saloon area. While the bar has an old western feel, it has all the amenities of any other bar and up to date technology, so you can safely assume the registers are on a central network, and that there is at least a computer and a jackpoint/matrix access in the back office.

Everyone - If you have to ask if I need a roll, go ahead and make it in the same post. That way if it is needed, it is already done and the thread keeps on moving. Feel free to make your actions based off these rolls, however, be prepared that if the result is not the same as you expected, you may have to go back and edit your post. You will find we do a lot of "editing" as I find it faster for you all to ask for forgiveness than permission. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif)

Ok, so the jackpoint search is probably a standard search test. Target number is 5. I'm trying to keep a low profile, so the becomes a 7.

5,5,5,5,3,3 - 0 successes
Boy did that suck. I have map full of jackpoints of questionable worth.

Like Bastard posted, it looks like nothing in the area of the meet. Dataline tap says it can be accessed remotely. It doesn't mention any other deck HW needed. The radio wireless links describe a more complete network than just one dataline tap. Could Jamie jack in using that tap from the Jeep in the parking lot?

To a wireless network? Is that what it does? What sourcebook and what page is this info on?

You arrived at my confusion as well.

This is from the main book, p 290.
Dataline Tap: Spliced into a dataline, the tap will transmit a
copy of any data to a distant receiver—either through the
Matrix or by radio signal (with a Flux Rating equal to the Tap’s
Rating ÷ 4, rounded down).

I'm suspecting it's just a way of watching the decker as the Matrix run occurs.

I think I don't have a good understanding of how a decker would use a dataline tap. I paid 6K for mine. I assumed I might need one when infiltrating a corp facility to create my own jackpoint into the corp network.

For what it's worth, I understood the dataline taps to be a small device you spliced between the fiber optic cable and a legitimate device that could send copies of the data that passed through the device to a third party either via radio or over the matrix. (e.g. hide it behind a wageslaves computer and grab his logins and passwords to his company network) It can also be used as a illegal jackpoint to connect to the matrix system (specifically the local network it connects to, allowing the decker to bypass the big firewalls between secured systems and the outside world).

That was how I understood it at least.

Yeah you need:

- transmitting datalinetap (higher rating = better)
- a radio link utility (p 73 Matrix sourcebook);
- radio interface (p 60 Matrix sourcebook) and
- special tranceiver for it to work.

There's more fun to be found at p33 of the matrix sourcebook for wireless links
[ Spoiler ]

But I can imgane there's a coffin motel nearby offering matrix-acces or you can tip the waitress and ask her if you can use the backroom matrix-access.
