(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Max hasn't even begun to settle down and think about a family. sometimes his life feels a little hollow, but he fills that void with drugs and sex. 9) the public schools were almost vocational schools for the local industries, but not bad for a kid like Max, His dad had to pull a few strings and forge a few files to get Max into the school system sisnce he didn't have a SIN, but the overtaxed school system didn't really pay that close of attention 11) Max believes in capitalism and all the glorious loopholes there in. the govornment is just a speed bump in the road to success. Bongo Slade 53 questions:
[ Spoiler ] 1. What is your characters Sex? Male. 2. What is your characters physical size? 175 cm; 75 kg. 3. What is the color of the characters Hair, eyes, and skin? Hair: brown Eyes: brown Skin: white 4. What is the character's general appearance (i.e., How does he dress, etc.)? Casual chic; sometimes a narrow brim fedora; you look at him and you say "musician". 5. Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name)? Toronto, Ontario, UCAS. 6. What is the characters date of birth? 3 June, 2050. 7. What was the character's family life like? Middle class, loving parents, formal education up to high school with expectations to go further. 8. Has the character begun his own family? No. He is way too mobile; won't allow himself to be tied down. 9. Where or how was the character educated? Went to neighbourhood schools till the end of High School, which he just barely finished. 10. Has the character ever done anything else for a living? He has made a meager living as a musician. He is an excellent percussionist but has not always been a good businessman. 11. What are the characters beliefs on church and state? They are separate entities, but both exist as tools to control the masses. 12. Describe the characters Moral code. Include how mercenary he is, whether or not he'll kill innocents, etc. Bongo will do just about any job for cash, but hurting people directly just for money is out. 13. What are the character have any goals? Bongo wants more than anything to discover the "Heartbeat of Gaea", and then to play it. 14. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?) The shadows afford quick money, mobility, no strings attached. If he feels like going to the Phillipines tomorrow, he can. 15. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history. - brash, young know-it-all in his early 20s (though of course he is too young to know much at all) - consummately confident in his own skill as a musician - "lover, not a fighter" is mostly true - able to cooperate with a team, even a team leader, but despises established authority figures and organizations - curious about anything and everything going on around him, and will investigate (he has tried some drugs - hey, he's a musician!) - always looking for the music in things, particularly rhythms 17. Are their certain things the character can't or won't do? Why? Wetwork is out. Bongo values life, and is more interested in celebrating life than destroying it. If violence comes to him, though, he will respond in kind. 18. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate? Authority figures. People who are bossy just for the sake of it. People who think they deserve to be in charge simply by some birthright or position. 19. What things people, or ideas does the character love? Creative, 'think outside the box' people. An underlying meaning to the magic in the world. 20. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc. Born Martin O'Malley. Took the street name Bongo Slade when he left the old life behind. It comes form a nickname he got in summer camp, banging on a metal washbasin in his tent. 21. Determine what your character used to do, before becoming a shadowrunner (very important). Was a student in school, and of music privately. 22. Decide why your character left his or her old job, if he had one. (also important). Left the old life because he thought it would lead him to his goal too slowly. He feels that only exploring 'out in the world' will he find what he seeks. 23. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #14, but rather why he started running the shadows originally. What led him to it?) He took many odd jobs in the beginning, when he was quite young, but none paid as well or was as much fun as being the 'spy', the 'scout', the 'distraction'. It started as a game to Bongo, but he is far more professional about things now, because he has seen the consequences of failure, and because the pros get more jobs and money. 24. How did your character come to know his or her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun, decide how and why you know them. Joe Coole - music agent/fixer Runs Coole Inc., a talent agency in Toronto with connections in Seattle. Joe saw the opportunity to branch out in business during the making of a simsense action flick when elements of organized crime threatened to derail the production because his client took the place of a low-level mobster's sweetheart. Joe hired protection and set up a run to convince the mobster his girl was not right for the part. Since then, he has protected a number of productions, and hired his teams out for more conventional runs. He takes a cut of all proceeds. First used Bongo's musical talents, but increasingly finds his skills useful in the shadows. He has tried, but failed to convince Bongo to become part of a regular team. Mick the Slick - pawn broker/fence Seattle pawn broker, willing to accept anything brought through the front door, and most of what comes in the back door. Has made some good profit on 'five-finger discount' items Bongo has brought him. In return he has provided Bongo access to some interesting, quality musical instruments. Johnny Winnipeg - Algonkian Raven shaman One one of his forays into the wilds north-west of Toronto, in search of "the real Gaea", Bongo ran across a group unfriendly to anglos from the south. They were led by Johnny. Bongo gained their confidence when he learned their language in a few hours and talked at length about his dream to drum the heartbeat of Gaia. Johnny Winnipeg has skirted the edges of eco-terrorism and is cold-hearted towards those he sees as the enemy, but will bend over backwards to help those he thinks "see the light". Bongo has won membership in the latter group, though Johnny is waiting to see if the boy lives up to his promise. Runs-with-Tricks - Pueblo Coyote shaman A man of boundless energy and mischief, Runs-with-Tricks lives to fool others through practical jokes and money-making schemes. He met the boy when Bongo ranged through the drylands south-west of Denver. Bongo's good-humoured response to a somewhat painful joke earned him a good meal, stiff whiskey and a hangover. Bongo's drumming won a longer-term respect and a promise to help in Bongo's quest, once he gets "a little chest hair." Fobo Mukasa - percussionist in Lagos A brilliant musician, one of the few whom Bongo regards as a better drummer than he, so of course Bongo had to go to that hellhole and spend time with Mukasa. Mutual respect developed. Great music happened. Much alcohol was consumed. An invitation to come jam stands. Ando Miko - Tokyo talent agent Imperial capitals always draw artists, and artists always need impressarios. Ando knows the Tokyo scene inside out, but has not branched beyond the city. He is a consummate capitalist, and will do what he can to make a nuyen form talent like Bongo. 25. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless_masses? This may be affected by the characters previous employment. Yes, he has a SIN, but he doesn't want to use it, as it might lead those back home to find him. He wants freedom from the confines of family. And he knows if they connect with him, they might be in danger one day. 26. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence? Performance and shadowrunning provide his income. He could make far more money from his music if he wanted to, but to him it is all about performance, not business. 27. Which person(s) or group(s) do you love the most? Well, to be honest, probably himself. 28. Which person(s) or group(s) do you hate the most? Corporate flunkies who think they are boss. Same with institutional teachers. Any person set into a position of authority for a reason not to Bongo's liking. 29. Which person(s) or group(s) do you respect the most? .Free-spirited musicians. 30. Which person(s) or group(s) do you fear the most? Organized crime. Those people are brutal. Yeah, go up to #28 and add organized criminals. 31. What is your favorite color? Yellow. 32. What is your favorite food and/or drink? Pizza and beer. Bongo can play the role and go for fancier fare, but these are his comfort foods. 33. What place would you most like to visit? Some really powerful magical node, or connection of ley lines. That may be where he can get a clue about Gaea. 34. Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to? Not much of any group gets his loyalty. The team he is working with gets everything he has, though. Good musicians get respect. 35. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the most enjoyment? (WARNING: Answering Sex for this question can and will result in penalties to your character!) Playing percussion. No contest. 36. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the least enjoyment? Settling accounts with the bar manager. Gotta be done, maybe even good at it, but it isn't fun. 37. What annoys you the most? Stuffed shirts. Losers who think they are winners. 38. What (if any) is your favorite form of art? Music. Duh. 39. What is your greatest goal? To play the heartbeat of Gaea. 40. What do you think is your characters best quality? Creativity. 41. What do you think is your characters worst quality? "Don't have one." *grin* 42. What is the most important thing you have ever done? Saved the life of a musician who got on the wrong side of some bad people. 43. Which religion (if any) do you follow? Kashmir Shaivism looks good this week. 44. What is your most treasured possession (and why)? "Possessions tie you down, chummer." Maybe his djembe. 45. What are your three most common dreams? A) Flying B) Burrowing into a jellylike Earth. C) A big parrot coming around the corner of the house. 46. What is the Characters current relationship with his family? Estranged. It's not that he doesn't like them, they just don't understand him and don't want to. They want to mould him. Not gonna happen. 47. If the characters family is still alive, what do they do, and where do they live? They are still in Toronto. Both are investment consultants. "Yuck." 48. Where did the character learn his Skills? Musical skills came from teachers and practice. Magic skills came from teachers, practice and experiment. Shadow skills came from living in the shadows. 49. Does the character have a good luck charm? What is it, and why? Nope. Luck comes from within. 50. What type of music does the character like? Anything with a good beat. These days he goes for old-time Jazz. 51. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. Aside from family, not much. Well, maybe that singer who was almost murdered. It looked good for a while, but career meant more to her than to Bongo. He moved on, or maybe she did first. Hard to say. 52. Where does your character live? Why does he live there? In Seattle now, because that's where a lot of work, both music and shadow, is. But every once in a while he just picks up and goes … "that way." *points in random direction* 53. Remember, I, as most Gamemasters, like detail, so if you can think of any other little details, quirks, or whatever that you think might please the almighty GM, then add them here. Check the Background and Vignette. If you really want to, look into the "Way of the Yen" IC thread. |

Character Name: Armando Vega Street Alias: Flax 1. What is your characters Sex? Male 2. What is your characters physical size? Medium build, medium height. 3. What is the color of the characters Hair, eyes, and skin? Hair: Dark brown Eyes: Brown Skin: Tan 4. What is the character's general appearance (i.e., How does he dress, etc.)? Flax is a non-descript man of undeterminable ethnicity (Hispanic? Native American? Middle Eastern? Tanned Caucasian?) that looks to be in his late twenties or early thirties. He dresses to fit the circumstances, whatever would best allow him to blend into the background. [Qualities: Blandness and Astral Chameleon, Metamagic: Masking, Spells: Fashion and Makeover, Powers: Facial Sculpt, Melanin Control, and Voice Control] 5. Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name)? Born at a street doc's shack in Santa Fe, PCC (formerly New Mexico) 6. What is the characters date of birth? Thursday, May 5, 2044. 7. What was the character's family life like? Flax grew up poor, living a SINless life with SINless parents. They all lived outside of the system, moving from barren to barren, with the occasional refugee camp when someone left the back door unguarded. Like Flax himself, his parents were fairly selfish, and he learned early that they couldn't be counted on if the chips were down. 8. Has the character begun his own family? No, and he has no plans to. 9. Where or how was the character educated? A mix between the school of hard knocks and book learning grifted from UCLA. He was never enrolled, but when he was a teenager he figured out how to sit in on a few classes as well as gain access to the school's library. 10. Has the character ever done anything else for a living? Nothing legal. He's been a criminal of some sort his entire life. 11. What are the characters beliefs on church and state? Flax tries to avoid politics. 12. Describe the characters Moral code. Include how mercenary he is, whether or not he'll kill innocents, etc. Flax certainly doesn't have any qualms about hassling a corp, and anyone working for one shares enough culpability that he doesn't lose much sleep if they turn into collateral damage because the job required it, but he tries to minimize his role in adding to the troubles of decent people just trying to get by. Of course, if it ever comes down to his hide or theirs, all bets are off. 13. What are the character have any goals? It turns out that Flax's old Fixer, Bugle, was selling him out to Aztlan. Flax severed ties after he found out, but he's been keeping an eye open on how he might settle the score. 14. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?) A life outside the shadows means an end to anonymity, where every corp and government has your number, literally. Flax treasures his independence too much to trade it for what many consider an "easy" life. Besides, Flax found out at an early age that there are more opportunities when the normal rules don't apply to you. He couldn't imagine a life as a "law aiding citizen." 15. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history. Flax tries to stay fairly low key and quiet until "show time," when he flips a switch to take on whatever personality characteristics are necessary for the role that he is playing. He considers himself a professional, and avoids acting in a way that would reflect negatively on this. 16. What special qualities does the character possess? This does not refer to skills, but rather at other things, such as How he gets along with people, does he plan ahead, etc. Flax is a social and physical chameleon. You'd lose him in a crowd the moment you let your eyes off of him, sometimes before. He doesn't set off MAD detectors, his aura doesn't draw the attention of mages, and you'd never look at him twice if he passed you on the street. At the same time, if he turns his attention on you he can make you feel like he is an old friend or a confidant worth placing your trust in. Only in retrospect will you wonder why you let him into that secure facility without more than a glance at his ID. 17. Are their certain things the character can't or won't do? Why? Though he's been known to threaten to do so on more than one occasion, Flax would never kill an innocent unless his own life was on the line. Of course, "innocent" can be a relative term. Sometime culpability comes from the choice to play the rough games. 18. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate? Hate is a dangerous word in this business, because it can make you sloppy. Flax tries to let personal slights roll off his back, at least until an opportunity presents itself. As for the rest of metahumanity, Flax doesn't really care about anyone except himself enough to evoke an emotion as strong as hate. As an idea, he hates unprofessionalism, conformity, and the loss of personal freedom. 19. What things people, or ideas does the character love? Flax loves himself, no doubt. He also loves his work and the professionalism that he associates with it. When a job goes down perfectly, he loves that feeling as well. 20. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc. Birth Name: Armando Vega Street Name: Flax 21. Determine what your character used to do, before becoming a shadowrunner (very important). Before becoming a shadowrunner Flax was a petty thief and thrill-seeker. He used to run the Castillos in Los Angeles, enjoying the challenge of dodging authority in such a highly controlled environment. This is how he hones the skills that eventually allowed him to become a shadowrunner. 22. Decide why your character left his or her old job, if he had one. (also important). Flax never had a real job, but he recently discovered his last few jobs in the shadows weren't quite what he thought they were. It turns out that his fixer was betraying his anonymity to Aztlan, who in turn was hiring him via a series of shell companies to pull corporate espionage jobs against Horizon. Now, a Johnson hiding his true identity is fair game, but a fixer is expected to follow certain rules, a big one being to not sell out your runners. He doesn't know if Aztlan had some sort of endgame in mind, but the whole situation has prompted Flax to look for an excuse to leave town for awhile. 23. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #14, but rather why he started running the shadows originally. What led him to it?) Flax never knew a life inside the bounds of the law. His parents weren't runners, but they did con, panhandle, or steal just about everything that they had. When Flax discovered that he had certain "talents" that would allow him to do more than move from refugee camp to refugee camp, he decided to follow the nuyen. 24. How did your character come to know his or her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun, decide how and why you know them. Chen Kai-li operates the smuggling operations of the Wah Ching triad operating out of Pomona. He'd hired Flax as a "new face" on more than one occasion, usually involving drops at Ontario Air Center. Their relationship is professional, but Chen remains in dept to Flax for discovering a coup plot that could have cost Chen his life. Flax was well paid for his efforts, but he still feels like Chen is someone that he can call upon for a favor when he needs it. Jose Ramirez is a shaman and a member of the Pathfinders, a magical taskforce based out of Barstow that is controlled by the PCC. He and Flax studies magic under the same mentor, Peter Blackwing (now deceased). Ramirez was Blackwing's protégé, while Flax was a kid with some cash who was looking to advance his career. Ramirez and Flax butted heads occasionally, but parted ways on friendly enough terms. A while back Ramirez joined up with the Pueblo Corporate Council's magic squad as a wagemage, earning his duckets holding by the line against rogue spirits and Anasazi tribesmen. He keeps up on the magical scene better than Flax, especially the political aspects, so Flax often turns to him when a situation like that comes up. Sara Jean Ferguson is a media spin-doctor for Charisma Associates, a high-powered PR firm based out of Portland that also just happens to be division of Horizon. Flax has been developing her as an asset over the past several months in connection with the jobs that he has been pulling against her employer (of which she has no knowledge). Despite coming across as a heavy hitter, her facade of confidence is just a well-developed mask meant to cover up her secret insecurities. Though she is very talented at what she does, Sara Jean has an irrational fear of being discovered as some sort of fraud, and Flax has carefully tapped in to that insecurity to mold her into a fruitful source of information and influence. Flax has Sara Jean convinced that he is her "Ace in the Hole," the one to turn to if things ever really fall apart. In exchange for the as-yet-unfulfilled promise of rescue on some future date, Sara Jean has been willing to help Flax out when asked. 25. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless_masses? This may be affected by the characters previous employment. Flax is SINless, but has access to several fake SINs that he rotates through as needed. 26. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence? Flax lives his entire life in the shadows, though at times his life is a bit "Batman-like." Even in the shadows, few people know anything about Flax except for the fact that he is good at what he does. His efforts to maintain anonymity have been a hindrance to developing any sort of personal life. 27. Which person(s) or group(s) do you love the most? Flax loves himself more than anyone else. 28. Which person(s) or group(s) do you hate the most? Flax's policy is that hate makes you sloppy, but he wouldn't mind having a few words with Bugle, his old fixer who was selling him out to Aztlan. 29. Which person(s) or group(s) do you respect the most? In general, Flax will respect a real professional, someone who can pull off a run without any rookie mistakes. 30. Which person(s) or group(s) do you fear the most? Flax fears anyone who knows more about him than he knows about them, because those are the folks who can end you real fast. 31. What is your favorite color? Black, like the shadows. 32. What is your favorite food and/or drink? Eat to live, not live to eat. In his career, Flax has eaten some of the finest food in the world, but he'd be fine with a bland soy paste if that was what was available. 33. What place would you most like to visit? It is about time to get out of town for a bit, and Seattle seems like as good a place as any to look for work while things cool down in LA. Aztlan certainly doesn't have much influence there. 34. Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to? Like his only love, Flax's only true loyalty is to himself. After that, he does have a reputation for standing by the person how hired him, assuming the deal is still on the up-and-up. 35. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the most enjoyment? (WARNING: Answering Sex for this question can and will result in penalties to your character!) Flax enjoys ghosting through crowds, getting close without anyone ever being aware that he was even there. He revels in the feeling of superiority over the people who seem to be sleeping through life. 36. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the least enjoyment? Flax deplores the day-to-day drek, the type of stuff that you would hire someone or program a drone to do for you, if you had the cred. 37. What annoys you the most? Flax is annoyed by "professional" runners who don't know how to be professional. Sometimes all it takes is one slip-up by a member of a team to take the whole operation down. 38. What (if any) is your favorite form of art? Tactical cosmetics, though few people recognize that as art. The next closest would be old-style wax statutes, back before the likeness could just be programmed into a computer. 39. What is your greatest goal? Somewhere in Flax's mind he probably imagines retiring after the big score, but most likely he isn't going to stop running the shadows before he is dead. His goal, then, would be to survive as long as he can while doing what he loves to do. 40. What do you think is your characters best quality? He takes his work seriously, and he is good at what he does. 41. What do you think is your characters worst quality? He takes life too seriously, and is bad at establishing real relationships. 42. What is the most important thing you have ever done? Made the decision to live a life different from his parents. 43. Which religion (if any) do you follow? Flax will say a prayer if things get real desperate, but in general doesn't really bother. 44. What is your most treasured possession (and why)? His fake SINs, because people put so much trust in a SINer without a criminal history. 45. What are your three most common dreams? Being found out, getting away, and falling in love. 46. What is the Characters current relationship with his family? Flax hasn't seen his family since he left the Pomona refugee camp as a teenager after the quake of '61. 47. If the characters family is still alive, what do they do, and where do they live? They are probably still alive, but could be anywhere. They tend to move around a lot, and beg borrow or steal whatever they have. Flax isn't exactly itching to reconnect. 48. Where did the character learn his Skills? Most of what Flax knows came from his "on the job training" as a small time thief, and from his early days in the shadows. There are two exceptions: First, he has made a serious study of the art of disguise, learning about facial structure, gait, personality tics, accents, inflection, etc. This includes a lot of practice as well, but he approached it more as an art form than as a survival skill. Second is his knowledge of magic. Here he actually purchased an education from Peter Blackwing, who was an honest to goodness shaman in PCC, and the spiritual leader of his small clan. The best money he ever spent. 49. Does the character have a good luck charm? What is it, and why? Flax has a lot of gear, but none of it has any mystical or sentimental meaning. Stuff is stuff and tools are tools, nothing more. 50. What type of music does the character like? Music is a distraction, but Flax makes a point to keep up on the latest club offerings for business reasons. 51. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. Flax hasn't let anyone get that close. 52. Where does your character live? Why does he live there? Flax hangs his hat in an old single family home in Pomona, with a large yard, barred windows, reinforces walls, and security screens on each door. The neighborhood certainly isn't the best, but it is in the middle of Wah Ching territory, and Flax can count on Chen to have a few guys checking in on his place whenever he is away. And "away" is where he plans to be very soon. 53. Remember, I, as most Gamemasters, like detail, so if you can think of any other little details, quirks, or whatever that you think might please the almighty GM, then add them here. Even some of the people that Flax works with regularly don't know what he looks like, as he routinely wears an "alias" face for meets. This means that when he checks up on his associates as himself, they often don't even notice that he is around. |

Also, one thing that I might change about Tag is where I spent the last 100 karma. Depending on which set of Matrix rules we settle on, there might not be any reason to increase the decryption and sniffer program ratings, rather than the logic, or something like that - but it shouldn't change much.

Well since I am getting no true answer with my post on using Stat + Skill + Program, then I am going to go with the standard published rules. I'll have to find a statistition to run the numbers for me on that idea later. You know it really peeves me when I specifically ask to keep with just the system I am asking about and 90% of the conversation is something else. Guess that's any forum though.
Starting Monday, I will take one character a day and truely run the numbers and nitpick it. I know Bongo was submitted first but I think I am going to start with Tag to allow pbangarth some time to deal with RL issues that he and I have talked about. Tag seems the closest to being done to me at this point. I will still give feedback to others about their characters and am happy to answer questions. I am just letting you know how I plan to devote my time. |

I think the Stat+Skill+Program idea is a good one, but would involve a lot of changes to all of the tests. You could probably eyeball something like adding 1 to the threshold of all one-time tests (assuming that an average person would have 3 more dice, and on average that would net 1 additional hit), but for extended tests, it is a lot more difficult, because that one program would add an average of 1 hit to every roll... so you'd have to do some more in-depth analysis to figure out how many intervals (on average) you'd expect each test to take, and then add that much to the original threshold. Edit: Also, anything that imposes a dicepool penalty (or modifies a threshold) would have less of an impact, if you had more dice to work with. So you'd probably want to think about that a bit too. Stealth programs would be less useful if the opposition had more dice with which to spot you. |

Pretty much. I think the Stat+Skill+Program idea is a good one, but would involve a lot of changes to all of the tests. You could probably eyeball something like adding 1 to the threshold of all one-time tests (assuming that an average matrix user would use an average program at rating 3, and on average that would net 1 additional hit), but for extended tests, it is a lot more difficult, because that one program would add an average of 1 hit to every roll... so you'd have to do some more in-depth analysis to figure out how many intervals (on average) you'd expect each test to take, and then add that much to the original threshold. Highlighted for emphasis. That is not my stronghold. I'm an electronics tech. Statistics never interested me so I never delved into past what I had to. I would love to see the numbers on it I just know there are people on this board that can run them faster than I can. EDIT: Perhaps add a skill test of Logic + Hacking test to the Stealth program where hits add to the effectiveness. |

Let me clarify something, I am not sure I made myself clear about it. My mistake so here is a better explanation.
You get 750 Karma for basic character creation this can include 2 Initiations/ Submersions. Mundanes get the extra allowance of money and Avail toward gear. You then get an additional 100 Karma for Advancement using the table from Sr4A. Initiations/ Submersions are limited to two. Does that clarify things? EDIT: It may be helpful to list the 100 Karma separately. |

An NPC remote Hacker can take a lot of the heavy lifting off the GM and keep the game running faster.
That way the PC hacker can deal with on site issues. Best if the NPC hacker is a little AADD so that the PCs have to keep them focused. |

...I think I am going to start with Tag ... I'll do my best to update Tag's equipment before Monday. I noticed one small error, today, and have about 40K left over to fix it, so I don't think it will be a big deal, but it will save you time if I get it all fixed up before then. |

Can we move the final PCs to where they are all together at the front of the thread if it is even possible?

What is your characters Sex? Male 2. What is your characters physical size? 1.9 meters tall, slim. 3. What is the color of the characters Hair, eyes, and skin? Hair: black Eyes: brown Skin: light brown(Amerind) 4. What is the character's general appearance (i.e., How does he dress, etc.)? He's an Amerind and wears his black hair short. When causual and at typical meets he'll wear denim pants and casual teeshirts. On the job, he wears black or dark colors. 5. Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name)? Denver, Saint Anthony Hospital 6. What is the characters date of birth? December 2, 2048 7. What was the character's family life like? His family life with his mother was great. He was happy, even though there wasn't a lot of money. When his mother died at age 13, he moved to live with his dad. He felt ignored by his dad and largely felt like a burden. He was miserable. 8. Has the character begun his own family? No and he has little interest in doing so. 9. Where or how was the character educated? Marcus attended corporate school in Denver until age 13. He attended an Ares private school in Seattle until sixteen, when his father disappeared. 10. Has the character ever done anything else for a living? He ran with the First Nations gang from age sixteen until about 21. He sold drugs and btl at first and then began to take part in stealing from the corps. 11. What are the characters beliefs on church and state? He doesn't think much about either. Moving through security at the airport is about the only time he thinks about the goverment, as almost everything else is corp controlled. He's not religious and has little time for what he sees as silliness. 12. Describe the characters Moral code. Include how mercenary he is, whether or not he'll kill innocents, etc. He'll never harm a child. He'll go easier on a woman, but will hurt one in self defense or to accomplish a mission. While he generally won't kill an innocent, he has a very narrow view of what he considers innocent. Anyone higher than a wageslave at a corp, isn't innocent in his eyes. 13. What are the character have any goals? To find his father or at least what happened to him. 14. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?) He has a hatred for the corps and would never want to work for them fulltime. He realizes that he usually takes corp money as a runner, but he is usually hurting another corp at the same time. 15. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history. Amongst friends he is easygoing. With strangers, he can be snide and condescending, especially corp types. 16. What special qualities does the character possess? This does not refer to skills, but rather at other things, such as How he gets along with people, does he plan ahead, etc. He's slippery in terms of always finding a way in and out of tough situations. This is from a combination of planning ahead, great improvisation and general use of his abilities. He's also ambidexterous. 17. Are their certain things the character can't or won't do? Why? While he is not opposed to wetwork, he'll refuse to do it in cases where leaves a child as an orphan, even a corp kid. 18. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate? He hates the corps and corp men and women and will gladly look for ways to take them down a notch. 19. What things people, or ideas does the character love? He loves the idea that while the corps try to control everything, there are plenty of people that manage to slip through their fingers and hit them back. 20. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc. His birth name is Eddie Stormcrow though nobody knows it. He goes by the street name of Sidewinder and his main alias is Marcus Wulf. 21. Determine what your character used to do, before becoming a shadowrunner (very important). He ran with the First Nations gang. He became a very good thief for them. 22. Decide why your character left his or her old job, if he had one. (also important). A shadowrun team need an extra body for a theft job. Xander, his fixer contact, knew he had the skills and hired him for the job. His cut of that job was significantly more than what he usually got from his gang jobs, so he was interested in doing more. And because of how well he performed on that first job, Xander was easily able to help him find more work. 23. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #14, but rather why he started running the shadows originally. What led him to it?) He saw an opportunity for more freedom and better pay than he was getting in the gangs. Both gave him more opportunity to look for his father. 24. How did your character come to know his or her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun, decide how and why you know them. First Nations Gang - He ran with the gang for about five years before going solo. He still stays close and pass information back and forth with them. Xander - Xander is a fixer. Marcus met him when the gang used him to fence their stolen goods. Xander saw a lot of potential in Marcus and over time took him under his wing and helped him start getting shadowrun jobs. Archon - Archon is a crotchety AI that has taken over the computer system in Marcus's building. He torments Marcus with minor annoyances with the computer system, but nothing molevolent. 25. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless_masses? This may be affected by the characters previous employment. While he was born with a SIN, 26. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence? He's a full-time runner. 27. Which person(s) or group(s) do you love the most? Members of the First Nations gang. They were his only family for a long time. 28. Which person(s) or group(s) do you hate the most? The corps, especially Ares. 29. Which person(s) or group(s) do you respect the most? Other Runners and members of the First Nations gang. 30. Which person(s) or group(s) do you fear the most? His father. 31. What is your favorite color? Blue 32. What is your favorite food and/or drink? Thai food. 33. What place would you most like to visit? He'd like to visit Denver again. 34. Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to? First Nations gang. 35. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the most enjoyment? (WARNING: Answering Sex for this question can and will result in penalties to your character!) He loves music, watching trid shows, and going on long motorcylce rides outside in the woods and mountains outside of Seattle. 36. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the least enjoyment? Clubbing. 37. What annoys you the most? Arrogance. 38. What (if any) is your favorite form of art? Music. 39. What is your greatest goal? Find his father and find out why he disappeared. If his disappeared on purpose, (rather than a hostile extraction) then Marcus intends to kill him. 40. What do you think is your characters best quality? His caring of children. 41. What do you think is your characters worst quality? His blinding hatred to corp types. 42. What is the most important thing you have ever done? He doesn't consider anything he has done to be of any importantance. 43. Which religion (if any) do you follow? None. 44. What is your most treasured possession (and why)? A holopic of his mother. Its all that he has left from her. 45. What are your three most common dreams? Finding his father dead and unable to answer his questions. A flying and falling dream. A drowning dream. 46. What is the Characters current relationship with his family? He has none. 47. If the characters family is still alive, what do they do, and where do they live? His father is the only one still alive, but whereabouts and circumstances are unknown. 48. Where did the character learn his Skills? He took martial arts growing up with his mother. He learned to fire a gun from his father on the Ares firing ranges, one of the few things they did together. His other skills he learned over time in the gangs as he participated in various thefts over the years. 49. Does the character have a good luck charm? What is it, and why? No. 50. What type of music does the character like? Techno music. 51. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. He has had a couple relationships with women in the gang, but nothing was ever serious. 52. Where does your character live? Why does he live there? Seattle. Its been his home since he ran away. Even though he'll travel outside the city on runs, Seattle feels most like home. 53. Remember, I, as most Gamemasters, like detail, so if you can think of any other little details, quirks, or whatever that you think might please the almighty GM, then add them here. Background: [ Spoiler ] Sidewinder Background Edward Stormcrow was born December 2, 2048 in Denver. His father and mother, both Amerindians and employees of Ares Corp, divorced when he was a baby. His father moved to Seattle while his mother stayed in Denver. He got a yearly e-card from his father, but only saw him once, when he was around age seven. His mother was little more than a wageslave at Ares. She didn't make very much and money was very tight. Nevertheless, they made the best of things and Eddie was grew up happy. He attended an Ares run private school. When he was about eight, his mother started him in martial arts classes. At around age nine Eddie was in a tragic car accident. His right arm was severely damaged and had to be amputated. Through the marvels of modern medicine, doctors were able to clone and vat grow a new arm for him and eventually give him his arm back. However, it took nearly a year for that all to take place and for him to get fully adjusted to the new arm, and in that time he had to heavily rely on his offhand. With the ordeal behind him, he had become ambidextrous, a quality that he made sure to develop and sustain throughout his life. Around age thirteen, his mother began to get sick. She was constantly going to the doctor, but she didn't seem to get any better. She died a week before his fourteenth birthday. Though he had only seen him once since he was a baby, Ares' Metahuman Resources Department moved him to Seattle to live with his dad. It was clear that his father felt burdened by him. His dad worked long hours and would go out socializing afterwards, usually just leaving money for Eddie to get food for himself. Eddie was miserable and started acting out in school, partially because he didn't really have any friends and partially for attention. His father barely acknowledged it. The one thing that his father and he did do together was go to the Knight Errant shooting range. His father was a mage for Knight Errrant, and he taught Eddie how to use various weapons. Eddie found that he was a pretty good shot. One day, soon after he turned sixteen, Eddie's father never came home. After a couple of days Metahuman Resources came to tell him that his father was no longer employed with Ares and they were taking Eddie to someplace where he could stay. They ended up dropping him off at a children's shelter on the edge of the Redmond Barrens with nothing but two duffle bags full of clothes. Since he had a SIN he could go to the public schools. For a couple of months he lived, just going between school and the shelter. He grew more and more bitter about his father, about Ares for dropping him, and about corporate types in general. On the way home one day, a couple of gangers started picking on him. When one started to shove him around he flipped out and started fighting back. Not only did his martial arts schooling come in handy, but he started moving and reacting much faster than he ever had before. A week later the same gangers were back, this time with friends. This time when they were pushing Eddie around, a several First Nations gangers drove by. The First Nations gangers saw a fellow Amerind being pushed around and stopped to help. Over the next couple of months, Eddie started hanging out with some of the members of the First Nations. They taught him about the streets and how to handle them. A street shaman in the gang confirmed that Eddie was an Adept. Eventually he was invited to join the gang. Eddie's initiation into the gang involved participating in the robbery of a local Stuffer Shack. He was scared at first, but the adrenaline rush that came during and after was intoxicating to him. As the next couple of years passed Eddie became an active member of the gang. He continued to participate in the various crimes the gang committed. After escaping a few very close calls with the Star, someone joked that he was as slippery as a snake. They gave him the nickname Sidewinder. He learned more about what it was to be a physical adept. He grew even faster and learned to do impressive things. As his street education continued, his dislike of the corporations grew to near blind hatred. Along with that, he began looking for his father. Intent on finding out what happened to him. His one burning question was if his father had abandoned him. If his father had, he would kill him. If not, why hadn't he looked for Eddie. When he was twenty-one, Xander, a fixer that he frequently used to move his stolen goods, asked if he was interested in doing some extra work. There was a team that needed an extra body for a run. Eddie and some of his ganger friends had fantasized about what it would be like to be a runner. He accepted and helped make the run go smoothly. Eddie was surprised at the pay out, as it was more than a couple of months worth of his cut in the gang. Over the next few months Xander got him doing more runs. With the extra money he was making, he moved into his own place. He did less jobs with the gang, but still kept in constant contact with them. They understood. He's now been running the shadows for a couple of years. His adept abilities are tightly honed and he's got a good rep for being able to handle himself in a fight and in getting into places others can't. |

It only stayed up for a minute and a half, but they sold 8,000 shares and made a small fortune. The hacker ended up with the lions share, but it was the most exciting thing Max had ever experienced 4)How did Max end up in the Shadows: Max tried to walk the straight and narrow. after his father got locked up, his mother sent him to Business school (with money his father made grifting). He's not a fan of violence. 7)What do I dislike about Max: Max is like a used car salesman sometimes. You always kind of wonder what he's after. He's also real high strung and energetic. it's hard to mellow out or relax if you're in the same room with him. 8)Best and worst magacorp for Max: He loves him some Aztechnology. Some of his favorite party people work for them, and they know how to have a good time. He also likes there sense of style. He's kind of had a thing for the seattle pyramid since he was a kid. He's not really against any Megacorp to a serious extent, but "Evo" has a real hippie vibe that doesn't sit right with him. 9)What's the story with his contacts: This could take a while..... Sam- is an Aztechnologie company man. Max met him at a club that he barely remembers flying to in Aztlan. He talked up a storm there to some serious bigwigs, and when he woke up in his living room , he thought he dreamed it all, until the first "request" came to his inbox. He's done a couple jobs for him now, and he can only vaguely remember what the guy looked like Brad Hefton-is a guy that max met in business school. its kind of a fluke that he ran into him while trying to sort out some travel problems. One night of drinking and a hefty wad of cash, and old brad can really grease a few wheels in the travel paper department. Julian Barberry- is officially a barber. Bud he is also the mafia don's trusted advisor. Max started getting invites to this hairstylist, and a few guys came to s door and insisted it would be in his interest to try this place out. Turn's out the mob was looking to launder some extra cash in a hurry. So Max forged a few investment portfolios and boom. Julian recieved a windfall from shortselling stocks. he was so imressed that max still launders the mob's money from time to time. Ami Hida- Had a very shamful roll in the hay with old Max after a very wild tea party. Now she throws a little business his way as sort of a pay off in case he was thinking of spreading the word around. And who knows, maybe she had some fun Zackery Tatem-He worked with Max's dad in the Dunkelzahn scheme and he knows Max has some real potential. He also knows where Max's dad is and has a little leverage on him, which helps in the trust department. Ivan Krenski- This guy happened to catch Max on a drinking binge. One of the rare times when the nova coke runs out, and Max tries to fight off the downward spiral with booze. Ivan had Just had to beat up his best friend because the guy owed his boss money. The two just clicked for that moment in time. they traded "cards", and every once in a while, they'll get hammered together. the Black Star- this group gave their number to his mother at temple. she passed it to him thinking it was some kind of youth group, volunteer thing. Max had heard of their Christian counterpart, so he called them up. The group was just getting started but they had some potential, so he funds them when he can. The komungo ring- was a group he was refered to by sam. They have come in handy more times than he can count, and he's becoume sort of a regular customer. the busher's- Max was looking for reliable smugglers in and out of the Salish-Shidhe lands. He played up his father's Makah heritage(even though his father was half Irish) and found a group that worked in the shadow of the council's military. giving them a huge scope and maneuverability. their numbers aren't quite there yet, but they have been very effective. 10) What does max do ona lazy sunday: Usually sleeps off a Bender for the first 8 to 10 hours. If he's up at a decent time he'll call his mother and make idle chat over brunch, sitting on his couch, looking out over the Sound and the Tacoma docks. Trying to explain why he hasn't met the right girl yet. then he'll shoot an email to his Dad telling him about his latest Adventures, whichecking the news on trideo and the Matrix at the same time. With nothing do, assuming his stash isn't totally wiped, he'll get cleaned up and go test drive the lastest Eurocar Westwind, or head to downtown for some shopping. He might hit a Casino for dinner and cards. Usaully he'll meet an interesting lady along the way, but nobody his mother would approve of. 11)How did Max aquire his skills: I'm sure Van Gough's father had this experience when he taught his son to paint. He feels his magic as a drive to succeed. its his never say die, climb any mountain attitude. Those motivation tags at the office are his mentor spirit. remember, whether you think you can , or you think you can't, you're probably right. this was true until recently. he began to get more than just a sense of people, he began to see thier auras, and then more of the magical plane he had only heard about from wage mages. now he is reading corporate sites on being a mage, and the "Hermetic tradition" and he has discovered the ability to summon magical spirits, but this is all very new to him. 14)any implants: nope 15)what does max think of "ordinary life": Max sees ordinary life as his dad in jail, and living inthe shadows as hanging on the street corner as a kid playing "lost watch" with his dad. It was a stupid scam looking back on it , but Lilly probably didn't care about the money. She gave him the cred and took his virginity in his dads Americar behined a stuffer shack. He never saw her again, and he spent the money on his first immitation Rolex. That watch is Max's lucky charm. He likes a little stubble to give his look a little more edge. His skin is tan and his features are boyish, but square. His teeth are perfect and white. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. when Max was in business school, he mat a girl, Jenalynn Sepheen, an Elf girl with dark brown hair and green eyes. just stunning, they dated for three years, But her family didn't approve , and eventually it became a burden on the relationship, It was the onw time in his life that Max was ready to walk the straight and narrow. he had even finished business school and got a legitament job as a freelance investor(as legit as a fake Sin can get you) 52. Where does your character live? Why does he live there? Max lives in a luxury condo in Tacoma that overlooks the docks and has quick access to downtown and the salish border, especially by boat 53. Remember, I, as most Gamemasters, like detail, so if you can think of any other little details, quirks, or whatever that you think might please the almighty GM, then add them here. Max is a concept I based on the stereotypical 80's coked up power broker, like the guy in Die Hard that tries to negotiate with the terrorists. Background [ Spoiler ] 1. What is your characters Sex? Male. 2. What is your characters physical size? Shorter than average for an ork, with a slight but wiry build. 3. What is the color of the characters Hair, eyes, and skin? Hair: Chestnut brown, wavy, medium-length, slightly unruly. Eyes: Hazel. Skin: Very slight tan. 4. What is the character's general appearance (i.e., How does he dress, etc.)? Tristan cultivates an attractive but nonthreatening appearance. His oval face, with large eyes and delicate features, looks deceptively innocent. He is nearly always well-dressed and clean, but ever so slightly unkempt. He has an amiable but slightly shy demeanor, with a soft, sometimes hesitant voice. 5. Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name)? Tristan was born in Northrup Plaza Hospital, in downtown Seattle. 6. What is the characters date of birth? June 17th, 2051. 7. What was the character's family life like? Tristan was raised in Ballard. His dad commuted to the Hyundai factory in Tacoma, where he worked in tech support for the roboticized assembly line. His mom taught literature part-time at St. Christopher's community college. His parents were nice, but their struggles to make it gave them a very strong work ethic, that they passed on to their children. Tristan learned early on that life wasn't fair, and that you had to make your own breaks. Ballard was nice, but fairly insular. As a teen, Tristan hung out in the more bohemian Capital Hill district, where he began to loosen up and shed some of his corporate-ingrained attitudes. 8. Has the character begun his own family? No. At this point, he doesn't feel that he could offer the kind of stability that a child needs. And while he has had a few long-term relationships, he has not met anyone he wants to permanently settle down with yet. 9. Where or how was the character educated? Tristan attended sprawling Southwestern High School, a dump of a public school terrorized by gang punks and jocks hoping to break out into the pro urban brawl leagues, with a dumbed-down curriculum. Fortunately, his parents supplemented this with enough home-schooling that he actually got a decent education. He attributes his love of reading to his mom, rather than to any of his teachers. Southwestern High did teach him a few things, though. He learned to deal with bullies (either talking them down, or resorting to sneaky and ruthless tactics). He experienced racism first-hand from the teachers (who didn't seem to expect a lot out of him) and some of the students. It was a shock, given his previously sheltered upbringing, but it toughened him up mentally, too. When he followed his dad's footsteps to Hyundai, he got a lot of on the job training. He found that the tactical and hands-on security training was far more useful than anything he learned in high school. 10. Has the character ever done anything else for a living? Tristan was a company man for Hyundai. Ostensibly a "security consultant", his work actually included more covert assignments, including counterespionage and dealings with several Seoulpa rings. 11. What are the characters beliefs on church and state? Tristan is cynical about "organized" religion, a belief gained more from soaking up the attitude of the coffee house and bookstore clique, than with any actual experiences on his part. The local Lutheran church his parents go to is actually fairly tolerant and civic-minded. Tristan has shed the last vestiges of his corporate conditioning. He has seen the inner workings and dark secrets of the system, leaving him disillusioned. He is more interested in subverting or evading the rules than he is in blindly following them now. He is not quite a neo-anarchist, though. He works the system; he doesn't want to overthrow it. 12. Describe the characters Moral code. Include how mercenary he is, whether or not he'll kill innocents, etc. Tristan prefers to avoid violence when he can. His overall philosophy is that sometimes you have to do distasteful things to get ahead, or even simply to survive, but that they should be your last resort, not your first recourse. He can be ruthless when he needs to be, though. Tristan is in it for the money, but it is not the be all and end all for him. It would not be out of character for him to float a friend a loan, rescue a total stranger from a gang, or do a "hooding" run for a worthy cause. He has a few hard limits. He will kill, but almost never does wetwork. He also tends to shy away from jobs such as intimidating witnesses, arson, or evicting squatters. Jobs like that, he considers thuggery, not shadowrunning. He tries not to harm people like office workers or shopkeepers, who are only trying to get by. He is not quite a toecutter (a criminal who only kills other criminals), but he comes close. 13. What are the character's goals? Tristan hopes to beat the odds and successfully retire from shadowrunning someday. Hopefully with someone - none of his relationships so far have been "the one", but he is still hoping. In the meantime, he tries to be a good person, to counterbalance the bad things that he has to do as a shadowrunner. 14. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?) Now that Tristan has made the adjustments to living off the grid, he has come to enjoy the freedom to set his own hours and choose his own jobs. He still may need to do things he doesn't like, but not as often as he did when he was a corporate troubleshooter. 15. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history. Tristan may seem like a charming facade over a ruthless killer, but the truth is that he really does prefer to solve problems without violence. While he has had the idealism beaten out of him, he still does try to do the right thing. Or at least, to salvage what courtesies and small kindnesses he can from the demands of his profession. 16. What special qualities does the character possess? This does not refer to skills, but rather at other things, such as How he gets along with people, does he plan ahead, etc. Tristan is empathetic, a good listener, and non-threatening; he is good at comforting people, and drawing things out of them. Although he only uses violence when he has to, he is brutally efficient at it. 17. Are their certain things the character can't or won't do? Why? While morally flexible, Tristan still draws a line at some of the sicker jobs that he gets offered. 18. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate? Tristan hates bullies, bigots, leeches, and the nastier corporate and criminal types such as Aztechnology (with their human sacrifices), human traffickers, Tamanous, etc. 19. What things people, or ideas does the character love? Tristan likes people who give the system a finger and shake up the status quo. Even though he admires M.O.M., his personal preferences tend towards more radical activists such as Terra!First or the O.R.C. 20. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc. He was born Terry Dawson, but his fake SIN lists him as Tristan Daniels, which is the name he answers to now. He doesn't have any street names, which he finds to be a bit silly for his taste. 21. Determine what your character used to do, before becoming a shadowrunner (very important). Tristan was a corporate expediter for Hyundai, doing work fairly similar to shadowrunning. Although his job often involved counter-espionage, and representing his company in shady high-stakes negotiations. 22. Decide why your character left his or her old job, if he had one. (also important). Corporations may endure, but divisions, and their little fiefdoms, rise and fall, often with casualties. Tristan was not unhappy at Hyundai, despite his often dangerous work. But when his division was absorbed into two other divisions, he saw that his position was in danger. He slowly and meticulously eased himself out, using all of his social engineering skills. He lost his SIN and his pension, but he managed to leave on relatively amicable terms with the company, alive and with his 'ware. He considered that a success. 23. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #14, but rather why he started running the shadows originally. What led him to it?) His nerve-wracking departure from Hyunai has soured him on corporate work. Plus, getting a job for another corporation would not sit well with his former bosses. He may have cut his ties to them, but he still has family working for them, and he knows that they have a pretty complete dossier on him. He doesn't want to get on their bad side. So he became a freelancer, working under the table but doing the same kind of shady work. 24. How did your character come to know his or her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun, decide how and why you know them. Molly Finn (Fixer) is a short elven woman with close-cropped black hair and designer violet cybereyes. She talks a mile a minute and seems scatter-brained, although Tristan has the impression that there is a keen mind behind her facade. She was recommended to him by several people he trusted. So far, she has been good at getting him work. Piro (Hacker) is a nondescript-looking young man (although Tristan usually deals with him through the Matrix, and has only seen him in person a few times). Molly originally recommended him to Tristan, when he needed some information on a local company for a run. When not hacking, Piro likes playing online games, using a cute little-girlish avatar to make it even more humiliating when he frags his opponents. Gravyboat (Cascade Ork Smuggler) is a thin male ork with lank, greasy hair, dressed in a mix of street and neo-tribal styles, who can get you into and out of Seattle in a hurry. He has some ties to both the Ork Underground and the Cascade Orks, although he tries to stay neutral as far as any of the syndicates are concerned. He occasionally has contraband to sell, but Tristan uses him mainly for discrete transportation. He originally met him as a company man, when he was dealing with a problem in Sioux territory, but he kept in contact with him afterwards. 25. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless_masses? This may be affected by the characters previous employment. Tristan had a SIN during his tenure with Hyundai, but it has been recalled and reassigned. He exclusively uses fake ID now. 26. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence? Tristan is exclusively a shadowrunner now, although he would not turn up his nose at semi-legitimate freelance work. 27. Which person(s) or group(s) do you love the most? He loves his family, even though he is a bit more distant from them after leaving Hyundai. 28. Which person(s) or group(s) do you hate the most? He despises racists, especially Humanis, and the recent election of Brackhaven has made him more thin-skinned about it than normal - he worries about what might happen with the Ork Underground, or if racial intolerance might be on the rise again. He feels the same kind of contempt for groups such as the Tir and the Sons of Sauron, but it is not as personal. 29. Which person(s) or group(s) do you respect the most? He admires M.O.M., for the herculean feat of successful grass-roots activism. In a more general sense, he respects activists, protesters, and muckraking journalists, and will try to protect such people as much as he can. 30. Which person(s) or group(s) do you fear the most? He is most wary of cults, terrorists, and similar fanatics. They are harder to predict, and more difficult to reason with. 31. What is your favorite color? He likes subdued colors such as brown, tan, or dark green. 32. What is your favorite food and/or drink? Tristan likes "real" meat (although typically this means vat-grown), much preferring it over soy. He enjoys ethnic cuisines, but given his druthers he is more of a steak and potato man. He finds wine too fruity except for a few of the drier vintages, but likes lagers and hurlg. 33. What place would you most like to visit? He would like to get out of the states, and go someplace like the Caribbean League, or Europe, to see the sights and be exposed to other cultures. 34. Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to? Tristan is fiercely loyal to family and friends. Groups, even ones he admires, he is less passionate about. His loyalties tend to be to individuals, not institutions. 35. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the most enjoyment? (WARNING: Answering Sex for this question can and will result in penalties to your character!) Tristan likes hanging out in places like coffee houses or bookstores (going back to his teen years in Capitol Hill). 36. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the least enjoyment? Tristan's job can involve distasteful things. He doesn't like it when he has to threaten or injure people who haven't done anything to "deserve" it. He also doesn't like it when he knows that his manipulations will leave people hurting. 37. What annoys you the most? Bullies are bad enough, but he hates the persistent ones, who keep pushing no matter how nice you try to be. As far as he is concerned, people like that have a death wish, and he has no problem obliging them. 38. What (if any) is your favorite form of art? He enjoys reading, both fiction and nonfiction. 39. What is your greatest goal? He would love to accomplish something epically heroic, but more realistically, living to retirement, and starting a family, will be difficult enough to achieve. 40. What do you think is your characters best quality? Tristan is good at defusing tense situations. 41. What do you think is your characters worst quality? Sometimes his nice guy act can tip towards passive aggression - and sometimes even deliberately. 42. What is the most important thing you have ever done? He mediated a few volatile situations as a company man, although nothing earth-shaking. 43. Which religion (if any) do you follow? Tristan is a deist, almost an agnostic. Like some people, he would rather have a vaguely comfortable notion of the great unknown in his mind, and otherwise not contemplate it too much. 44. What is your most treasured possession (and why)? A copy of Sun Tzu's Art of War, an annotated version with commentaries, a gift from one of his old trainers. 45. What are your three most common dreams? > A dark cityscape, where he goes on a killing spree, one that resembles a first-person shooter more than his own, more realistic experiences in actual combat. Generally the targets are generic thugs in dark suits. Despite the appalling level of blood and carnage, he isn't disturbed at all... which disturbs him a bit. Occasionally, though, he will have a nightmare which starts similarly, but then he gets a look at the corpses, and they are the bodies of his loved ones. > Floating through the clouds, with occasional glimpses of bizarre towers or primevial trees, feeling strangely at peace. > A porno dream starring Ursela Andover, the prim but attractive girl from the trid who does "Book Talk". She seems quite the proper lady, he doesn't know why he keeps picturing her in these depraved fantasies. Whether his alarm or a ringing trid call, this is the dream he seems to be likeliest to be woken up from. 46. What is the Characters current relationship with his family? A bit more distant after his leaving Hyundai, but he still keeps in touch and visits them occasionally. 47. If the characters family is still alive, what do they do, and where do they live? His dad still works at Hyundai, as a supervisor now, and close to retirement. His two older brothers work there now, too. His mom is semi-retired, and works as a substitute teacher and sometimes a tutor. His younger brother is involved in more firebrand activism than his parents (O.R.C. instead of M.O.M.), and is currently pursuing a law degree. His younger sister is a stripper and sometime sex worker in Loveland - at least she seems to have kicked the BTL habit. She thinks she is the black sheep of the family. If she only knew... 48. Where did the character learn his Skills? Academically, he had a mix of mediocre public schooling and home schooling. Most of his more practical skills were learned as a company man for Hyundai. 49. Does the character have a good luck charm? What is it, and why? No. He has a few pieces of junk (an old bullet casing, a brass key chain, etc.) that hold memories for him, but they are just mementos, not good luck charms. 50. What type of music does the character like? He likes classical music with little or no vocals. He likes Celtic music as well, but prefers the traditional style. He has recently started listening to orkish tribal-style music, and likes it a lot better than the trash-talking rap that most people associate with orkish "music". 51. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. While most of his relationships have been short-term, he has had a few longer-term ones, which have all ended amicably. The latest was with Zara, a stripper in Loveland (he met her when he was over there to visit his sister), which ended when she went to L.A. to seek a more upscale venue. 52. Where does your character live? Why does he live there? Tristan lives in a converted loft, just off the beaten path near Capitol Hill. He likes it - it has a spacious feel to it, and the neighborhood is nice and quiet but still close to the bustle of downtown Seattle. 3 Comforts: A large bed, full bedroom set, a row of stools around the kitchenette counter, some low tables and beanbag chairs. A good household drone and reliable appliances. The place is clean if a bit spartan (although it only looks that way because is is a large loft). He has some basic AR, which he uses more for guests than himself. 4 Entertainment: A home entertainment center with a large tridscreen and plenty of available content. Mainly, though, this represents his active, upscale social life. 3 Necessities: A large loft, although there is no balcony or yard, and a parking spot in the underground lot. Utilities are boosted, but surprisingly reliable. 3 Neighborhood: Decent sleepy lower-middle class neighborhood, with decent response times and comparatively low rates of violence. The local gang generally doesn't hassle you if you keep up your protection. 4 Security: Good locks, competent building security, including matrix and magical security. Plus, the local gang has been paid off, and might even mention it if they see something strange. 53. Remember, I, as most Gamemasters, like detail, so if you can think of any other little details, quirks, or whatever that you think might please the almighty GM, then add them here. Tristan is a sammie with a good mix of face, someone who is dangerous but doesn't look it. Although people could still react that way, if they have heard of his reputation. Quick question: Do you guys want any of our characters to know each other, or should they meet for the first time when they get recruited for the mission? |

What is your characters Sex? - None 2. What is your characters physical size? - Microsized. Exactly the same size and shape of an RFID tag. 3. What is the color of the characters Hair, eyes, and skin? - Hair: None - Eyes: A single (high quality) microcamera - Skin: None, or perhaps the clear plastic "tape" of the RFID surface - which is chameleon coated to blend into whatever surface Tag attaches itself to. 4. What is the character's general appearance (i.e., How does he dress, etc.)? - Easily overlooked, and if it remains motionless,Tag appears to be nothing more than another of the nearly ubiquitous RFID tags that are attached to most common devices. 5. Where was the character born (City, State, Hospital Name)? - Tag's advanced drone body was created as an security-grade autonomous low-energy surveillance platform. The drone was designed with an advanced pilot program, so that it could operate under radio-silence, collecting data until it was recovered or the mission parameters were met. This pilot program eventually evolved into Tag, which starting making changes to the mission parameters on its own - specifically, collecting additional information and otherwise demonstrating an almost human-like level of curiosity about events beyond what its programming included. This information caused a stir within the corporate research division assigned to the project - after all, what good is an autonomous sensor that cannot be expected to perform as commanded while operating without supervision? The project, including the logs and relevant code, was transferred to another department (which specialized in matrix anomalies, and was particularly interested in the emergent behavior of digital intelligence) and into the hands of Dr. Elizabeth Sonna who recognized the emerging Tag for what it was. Due to corporate politics, after only a few weeks of research, the projects was reassigned, again, and Tag would be delivered into the hands of one of her rivals within the corporation - a Dr. Yamoto. Upon discovering this (with the help of Tag, who had begun snooping on inter-corporate messages) Dr. Sonna arranged for a Shadowrun team to perform an extraction on her own laboratory - if only to deny Tag to her rival, and allow her to continue her research on her own. Dr. Sonna did a fairly good job of covering her tracks, and distancing herself from the crime - but she was under heavy suspicion (made worse by accusations by Dr Yamoto), and decided that it would be too dangerous for her to have the "package" delivered to her, personally. Instead, working through the same Johnson, she paid the team of Runners for the job, and arranged for them to keep the "package" as additional payment - with the intention of keeping tabs on the team and either collecting Tag once the heat had died down, or monitoring its growth from afar. 6. What is the characters date of birth? - Within the last two years, when many other AIs emerged. Unlike other, more famous metasapient AIs, Tag has kept a fairly low profile. 7. What was the character's family life like? - Non-existent, technically. If you count its parent security corporation, you might describe their relationship as that of a parent, and a runaway child. The corporation would very much like to regain their lost property, and salvage research, if not a profit, from it - but knows that tracking down a minuscule device which was programmed to actively avoid detection will require a great investment of resources to accomplish. Enough of the original codebase and experiment logs remain under their control that, for the time being, they have made no move to actively hunt Tag. Dr. Sonna, has become something like a distant relative who - rather than adopting Tag, has opted to act as a benefactor. The "team", in whose possession Tag was left, had become something like a foster-family, before they were lost. 8. Has the character begun his own family? - No. Tag's programming has become sufficiently advanced that it can no longer replicate itself. (See #13) 9. Where or how was the character educated? - During Tag's emergence, it assimilated its payload of autosoft programs, including covert-ops, electronic-warfare, and clearsight code routines that emulate skills possessed by humans. Tag is able to load and execute additional autosoft programs to emulate other skills, as necessary - specifically those that would allow it to function in a typical hacker role. Since its extraction, and subsequent freedom, Tag has received informal education (more of a crash-course, really) from the team which set it "free". Its skills as a hacker, and recon-sensor were recognized as quite useful, and the team kept the AI on as a member. 10. Has the character ever done anything else for a living? - No, but it hasn't been around that long. 11. What are the characters beliefs on church and state? - Insignificant. Tag is a curious creature, and would be interested in observing various government officials (or religious organizations), but wouldn't consider the moral or political implications of what it observes. Tag's team (his foster parents, really) are more interested in corporate politics, than religious ones. 12. Describe the characters Moral code. Include how mercenary he is, whether or not he'll kill innocents, etc. - Extremely mercenary, but very curious. Often willing to do surveillance for nothing at all, but would only part with that information for some form of compensation - perhaps even by trading information. The question of killing innocents is relatively meaningless, since Tag is unable to do so in its current body. If, for whatever reason, Tag downloaded itself into a war-bot, it probably wouldn't have any moral problems with using that drone to kill someone, but wouldn't be motivated to do so without external pressure, and wouldn't be very good at combat, anyway. (See #24) Instilling a moral code (beyond a commendable work-ethic) is one of the areas that Dr Sonna is interested in experimenting, but has not begun any serious discussion with the digital intelligence on this matter. 13. What are the character have any goals? - Tag's primary instincts drive it to investigate, uncover, observe, and keep record of almost everything it comes across, as well as to seek the same necessities that all beings require for survival - sufficient energy, and a safe habitat in which to rest. It has evolved sufficiently, however, to recognize that none of these instincts carry with them any inherit purpose. Tag's observations will not be put to use, unless Tag seeks out opportunities to do so. Likewise, while energy and safety are required for self-preservation, without a reproductive function, or a mission of purpose, that existent feels somehow without meaning. Just as Tag's existence was only made possible through the complex interaction of hundreds of metahumans, even after obtaining a degree of "freedom", Tag finds that its continued existence is still defined by further complex metahuman interactions. Information is only useful, if it is put to some use. Reconnaissance as espionage, similarly, require goals, which Tag is currently incapable of defining for itself with any validity. Tag has grown attached to its team, who, in addition to arranging for its freedom, and continued existence, provides it with energy, safety, and the occasional mission which Tag can incorporate, evaluate, and execute. 14. Why does the character run the shadows? (Why does he run the shadows still, rather than getting a "real" job?) - See above. Tag would be just as willing to work in any other domain (military, government, political, corporate, etc) except that the types of people it would be working for would often want - or require - a level of control over it that its programming will not allow it to surrender. In the Shadows, there are innumerable factions who need information on one another, and, in this domain, the expectation is that those factions want plausible deniability of whatever "disposable" assets they direct at retrieving that information. There is no expectation of ownership, and once the payment is made, and the information changes hands, there is not necessarily any expectation of further codependency between the two parties. 15. What kind of personality does your character have? This should not necessarily be obviously stated in the background, as it is more important for actually playing the character, but it may color or add mood to the history. - Curious and kind of a voyeur. Naive. Young. 16. What special qualities does the character possess? This does not refer to skills, but rather at other things, such as How he gets along with people, does he plan ahead, etc. - Tag is an agreeable AI, perhaps because it sees itself more as a piece of equipment than many metasapient AIs do. It is intelligent, and capable of making decisions on its own - and was designed to adapt to unpredictable changes in a mission. It is eager to please, and to make itself useful - but this is a trait which could be easily exploited. 17. Are their certain things the character can't or won't do? Why? - Tag has trouble defining itself, or finding purpose, outside of its function. (See #13) 18. What things, people, or ideas does the character hate? - Tag "hates" being told what to do. While it prefers (and almost necessitates) someone else to direct it towards a goal, it values its ability to make decisions, and act on those decisions without requiring further authorization. Tag's team had learned to be very careful when dealing with the drone, to phrase there requests such that they are either requests or suggestions - and allow Tag to make the decision to assist them, on its own. 19. What things people, or ideas does the character love? - Tag delights in being useful - typically, this is by discovering information that fits within mission parameters, but occasionally involves fulfilling other roles. Tag also enjoys the feeling of being an unseen observer, and has been described by others as almost voyeuristic. 20. What is the character's name? Give both full birth name, as well as nicknames, street names, etc. - Typically called Tag. There are a number of codenames and serial identification numbers that correspond to the project from which Tag originated - but since its chassis was designed (with intricate details) to resemble a common RFID tag, "Tag" became the nickname that stuck among the researches, and was the first identified Tag remembers overhearing in reference to itself. Once outside of the corporation, the nickname stuck among the team which took it in. 21. Determine what your character used to do, before becoming a shadowrunner (very important). - See #5, Tag has not lived a long existence, and the high cost of upkeep on its frail body pushed it almost immediately into the shadows in search of resources. 22. Decide why your character left his or her old job, if he had one. (also important). - See #5 23. Come up with a reason for why the character became a shadowrunner. (This very often will tie in with #22. This is not the same as #14, but rather why he started running the shadows originally. What led him to it?) - See #5 24. How did your character come to know his or her contacts? Contacts are an important part of Shadowrun, decide how and why you know them. - See #5. Dr. Sonna still considers Tag her experiment - she risked a lot to keep Tag within her sphere of influence (and out of the hands of her competition). She would have preferred to continue her research on Tag, and occationally finds ways to get back in touch with the AI. 25. Does the character have a SIN? Does the character actually use it? Or is the character one of the SINless_masses? This may be affected by the characters previous employment. - Tag does not have a SIN, and is not interested in obtaining one. Dr. Sonna has brought up the idea of applying for a corporate SIN a few times, but, so far, Tag has shown no interest in entering the system, and providing others with a method to track its activities. 26. Is the character a full-time shadowrunner? Or does the character lead a Batman-like double existence? - Full time shadowrunner, as much as it can help it. Tag has trouble coming up with things to do with "idle time", and has a high maintenance cost associated with its SOTA body and materials. 27. Which person(s) or group(s) do you love the most? - Tag loved its "team" the most. They were like a family, but it recently lost them. It is looking to fill that void with another "family". It also feels somewhat positive to Dr. Sonna for arranging its freedom, even if she has ulterior motives. 28. Which person(s) or group(s) do you hate the most? - Tag doesn't really hate anyone. It would probably come closest to hate towards those who would claim to "own" it, or to take it apart and experiment on it - but this has not been a real concern for months. 29. Which person(s) or group(s) do you respect the most? - Tag respected the freedom and independence of its team, before it lost them. It respected their dedication to "the job". It also respects Dr. Sonna. Although it knows she did not act purely out of interest for its well being, she spared its existence. 30. Which person(s) or group(s) do you fear the most? - Tag fears being returned to the corporate laboratory. It is aware that the program was canceled, and that all that awaits it there is experimentation, dissection, and the loss of freedom. 31. What is your favorite color? - White. Black seems empty and dark, and white is the opposite of that. 32. What is your favorite food and/or drink? - Electricity? 33. What place would you most like to visit? - The more heavily-guarded and secure a place is, the more fulfillment Tag would experience by observing it. 34. Which person(s) or group(s) are you most loyal to? - Tag is most loyal to those who take care of it. That would have been its team, until recently, but anyone who provides it with necessities, and a goal to direct its attention towards can count on its loyalty. 35. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the most enjoyment? (WARNING: Answering Sex for this question can and will result in penalties to your character!) - Decryption. Tag considers it like a puzzle-game, where the reward is information that someone obviously felt was important enough to hide. Tag rarely cares about the details of the information being transmitted in code, and could spend hours just picking signals out of the air to decode, for fun. 36. What pastime (that you participate in regularly) gives you the least enjoyment? - Recharging. Tag can operating for a reasonable amount of time, particularly once it attaches itself to a surface and no longer needs to keep all of its drone-parts powered - but it uses more power than a typical RFID tag, and is ultimately tethered to a power-source. When reconning a new environment, Tag usually wants to start looking for new interesting information, but, instead, almost always has to spend some time, up front, scouting out where power might be available in that environment. 37. What annoys you the most? - Something hidden, just out of sight. 38. What (if any) is your favorite form of art? - Encryption. (See#35) 39. What is your greatest goal? - See #13. Perhaps Tag's *greatest* goal would involve discovering a purpose to its own existence beyond whatever mission Tag has accepted, at any given moment. 40. What do you think is your characters best quality? - Work-ethic and vigilence 41. What do you think is your characters worst quality? - Disrespect for privacy 42. What is the most important thing you have ever done? - Tag once cracked SOTA military-grade encryption on a recovered file that the rest of its team had given up on. The achievement gave it an immense satisfaction. 43. Which religion (if any) do you follow? - None. 44. What is your most treasured possession (and why)? - Tag's most treasured possession would be its own drone body. 45. What are your three most common dreams? - Tag's reallcoation process is similar to sleep, but dreams elude it. 46. What is the Characters current relationship with his family? - The foster-team disbanded (to lay low), after a run went bad and most of them were KIA. A couple retired, some went missing, and some were found dead. Tag cannot afford to lay low, or to stop working, and still maintains contact with the team's fixer, looking for new work (and perhaps a replacement team). Dr. Sonna contacts it from time to time (using an anonymous matrix drop-box) and after the loss of the team, Tag has actually warmed up to the Doctor. It is confused as to why Dr. Sonna doesn't want to meet or care for it the way that the team did, but understands that she is in danger. 47. If the characters family is still alive, what do they do, and where do they live? - Dr. Sonna is still alive, and lives in Seattle, although she spends a lot of time in Japan on business-travel. She still works in AI-research. 48. Where did the character learn his Skills? - See #9. After those events, Tag's skills were further refined while working with a Shadowrunning team for several missions, before they were mostly KIA and disbanded to lay low. 49. Does the character have a good luck charm? What is it, and why? - No. 50. What type of music does the character like? - Tag is not particularly interested in music. 51. List any past serious relationships that your character has had, and give a brief overview of the relationship. - See #5. Tag's longest relationship was with a team of Shadowrunners, who became like a family to it. Some of them died, and the rest went into hiding, or retired, afterwards. Tag feels a bit like a puppy accidentally left behind when a family moves away, but is unable to make much sense of those feelings. 52. Where does your character live? Why does he live there? - Tag lives in a small safehouse that used to be used by its team. It is lonely there, now. It has manged to arrange for the utilities to be paid, and for the maintenance parts it needs to be delivered. 53. Remember, I, as most Gamemasters, like detail, so if you can think of any other little details, quirks, or whatever that you think might please the almighty GM, then add them here. - I think I covered everything above (but was mostly making it up as I went). If I think of anything new, I'll be sure to post it. |

hey glyph, i'm counting 415 on core attributes there Well, I would have thought that 425 or less was fine (1/2 our starting karma) but then I realized that the rules were clarified so that we're building a character with 750 karma, and then get another 100 for post-char-gen stuff. So that would put the attributes over half (unless 40 or so of that came from the 100 post-char-gen karma, which is probably possible). |

Remember that for Attributes, you can spend half of your starting Karma, plus twice the listed BP cost for your metatype. So an ork can spend 375 + (20 x 2), or 415.
I didn't differentiate between the 750 and the 100 Karma because I didn't do anything post-chargen with it (buying Attributes past the 415 limit, getting a second skill at 6, etc.). |

Quick question: Do you guys want any of our characters to know each other, or should they meet for the first time when they get recruited for the mission? Probably up to ravensoracle. The BG I put together for Tag through his 50 questions leaves either avenue open, for him. |

Knowing each other is completely up to you. Come up with a good story and I'll most likely approve it. It does take some of the awkwardness out of the initial meeting.
