hmm, square enix. loved the sunglasses, but that xbox and ps3 shows up in the systems it will be available for makes me fear consolitis...
also, a prerendered sequence like that tells us zero about the actual game content. |

part two contracted a bad case of consolitis basically. If it had a proper inventory like the first one, and maybe some basic skills (tho the selection of implants gives some level of "rpg"), it would be more acceptable i think.

I could have lived with the inventory, that's something a lot of good RPGs and adventures have done. Unified ammo, no books and messages, no skills, consolish gameplay et cetera were far worse.

And the fact that the environments were tiny, whereas the environments in the original Deus Ex were large, beautiful, and allowed for a lot of overall strategy. I think even some of the game designers admitted that the AI in 2 didn't even work very well for the tiny cramped levels they had. Deus Ex 1's environments were modelled on real world locations and I had always been a huge fan of their New York City stages; I grew up in New York City. Deus Ex 2 just felt like arbitrary fantasyland levels. |

This as the high powered weapons probably works wonders in the hands of the adhd tween on a sugar high that can place head shots while jump running in circles (both physically and in game). The rest will make do with the others and hope one can land enough of the spray before it runs out. mass effect 2 have the same issue btw, to such a degree that i ended up using a power for boss fights rather then weapons, thanks to its target tracking and infinite recharge (and basically stayed behind cover while the team mates mopped up the distractions). But yes, overall the first game allowed for more varied tactics and retreats, tho it also sometimes made the missions damn hard to figure out as one got lost if one missed that one turn or door in the path description. |

IIRC I was a good sot in Ivisable war but due to a bad choice of weapons for the last few lvls the game was un-beatable my huge damge guns where good but there where more high power NPCs than round to put in there skulls.
Mass effect 2 didn't have universal ammo it just had a universal ammo pick up. If you ran out for one gun you had back ups in Invsiable war you run out of ammo your out of ammo. |

IMO System Shock 2 had the true way of the jedi, where ammo was an inventory item. One of the goofy things about a lot of games nowadays is ammo is weightless and takes up no space so if you run out of ammo for one gun you just pick up another gun you hadn't been using before and somehow you now have 500 rounds for it all neatly loaded up in magazines.

Paris, on the other hand, was ok even though it doesn't look the same outside of the Denfert Rochereau station. Anyway, I still think that part 2 was way too underrated. The removal of skill and the use of universal ammo didn't affect the gameplay that much for me: you could still specialize in different fields and use different tactics to get things done. And I found combat much more dynamic and fun in the second one. |

My only problem was with the universal ammo some times gimping the game. Other thank that the ebioroments being a bit crap in places.

I thought JA2's inventory worked just fine, in the sense that it wasn't cumbersome and you didn't have people lugging around unrealistic amounts of gear. On a related note JA2 Gold is now on Steam for $20. I'm strongly considering picking it up even though I still have my JA2 and Unfinished Business CDs lying about somewhere, mainly because I'm not sanguine about getting the older edition to run under Vista. |
