Kevin's wife didn't die; she's just no longer his wife. And although you may not like Palladium's stuff, they're still around and publishing. She didnt die? I swear I have a rifter in a box somewhere saying that she died of cancer or something and that she will be sorely missed. I guess i could be wrong. But yes, they are still around after the financial fiasco caused by - I think it was cj carella? - that was my point. |

All published reports indicate that CJ Carella had absolutely nothing to do with the "Crisis of Treachery;" the person who faced charges in that matter was Steve Sheiring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palladium_Boo...of_Treachery.22 |

Considering we've had no news since JM Harding's post, and the fact is Catalyst's press realease addresses this issue, could this thread get locked? Censorship is bad. If people wish to talk, others shouldn't stop them. And arguments on the Internet aren't really that scary. We're not the WotC boards. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) K. |

Now, I think most freelancers don't care where their rightly deserved creds come from. IF there was a way that SR fans could donate money to pay the freelancers WITHOUT giving that money to CGL or working through CGL, that may be a win-win situation for all Well, I'm no longer owed money by CGL, so I can only comment to my past experiences, but I did actually care where the money came from. It's a matter of professionalism and trust; we sign contracts with CGL (which they write) and we expect them to honor those contracts. Besides, if the money came from some fan donation, it wouldn't really resolve the legal issues of the contract. You could end up with a messy situation where fans donate to a freelancer and the freelancer could still withhold copyright because the contract is still in violation. I'm not saying that would happen, but it could. As for SoLA, I just want to go on the record for myself as saying that I never felt pressured by FanPro or CGL to not release my drafts. I didn't release them earlier because I had hoped they'd be released as an official PDF or something. I also held onto them because I had chatted with some of the other SoLA freelancers about doing our own unofficial SoLA, maybe updating the material or at least releasing it together. But that became too complicated to organize. So finally I just released them because I knew holding onto them wasn't really accomplishing anything and at least some fans might get some enjoyment or use out of my draft material. |

I think the point is this; all rumors are just that--RUMORS. I always wait for confirmation on anything, whether it's a company's apparent downfall, restructuring, books coming out or whatever. I've always felt that rumor-mongering is the domain of petty {expletives} who have nothing better to do with their time and energy, and I will not pay them heed by believeing them.
I have been reading a lot of Palladium Books' works (mostly Rifts, but not PFRPG), and I was saddened when Kevin & Maryann split. But they parted on amicable terms, and both ane not only well, they are still on good terms with each other. The passing of Eric Wujcik, and the Crisis of Treachery, were hard blows, but I can tell you, as one who donated to Palladium (& I am looking forward to the book Heroes of the Megaverse), the company is doing better. Now, lets' get back to the more important stuff, shall we? |

I think most here can attest to thinking the same. I'm almost certain no one would buy a WotC 5th Edition ShadowRun, unfortunately if it does come to that, we might inadvertently kill off the game forever (other than all of us still playing 4E). Anyway, I'm sure this can get sorted out and we can all go back to embezzling fictional currency of non-existent mega-corps run by mythological creatures. Weirdly enough... as a player of both systems... I drool in glee at the thought of a 4e D&D version of Shadowrun. It's not the mechanics that matter that much... simpler mechanics wouldn't hurt that bad. It's the stories that matter... as long as the adventures were well written and Shadowrunny, the fact that street sams had at-wills, encounter and daily powers wouldn't phase me a bit. |

When an organization loses a chunk of employees, it is usually a sign of a failure cascade.
People prone to quitting generally tend to quit on their own volition for any number of imaginary reasons, so there is rarely enough of them accumulated to quit as a group in response to a temporary rough patch. Organizations tend to rapidly bleed quality employees as soon as they think an organization has crossed the tipping point into failure cascade. They know that they can go find another non-sinking ship to be successful on, and are wise enough to not to get sucked into a draining situation that will only get uglier before it completely implodes. I wouldn't be overly surprised to see SR die, or there be a SR5 under a new company. |

Of course the mechanics matter. Because the mechanics have a hand in the stories. The mechanics define how the world functions, they resolve the conflicts, which is what actually produces a story. Conflict + resolution = story. Perhaps it would be better put that there is more than one set of mechanics that can evoke the spirit of the 6th World. In the same way that 4e retained so much the spirit of 3e while seriously reworking the nuts and bolts of the mechanics. But D&D 4e? Well it's built for different kind of world. It does have things going for it, such as being "team" orientated. But it's gridness, which is fairly integral, and a few other things aren't the best fit for SR ranges and such. There are more appropriate choices out there. |

I think my biggest problem with D&D is how little skills matter.
If you have a 5-player group, with 1 player trained in Arcana, and everyone rolls for a check - chances are the character who actually knows something about it will be surpassed by another player practically every time. Now, I like when in a game *sometimes* an untrained person can have a glimpse of insight, but in D&D it happens all the frakkin' time. Also, classes. It seems to stifle all creativity when it comes to designing a character. (Though I admit, that might just be most D&D players... ) I like my Level 4 Hybrid Wizard/Rogue with a level in Artificer who's a secret Changeling (showing herself as Human to the PCs - they have no idea) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) |

The PDF is out for Midnight, yeah.
I pre-ordered it and the Limited Edition Rulebook for my birthday, and got the PDF immediately. |
