BIG EDIT

This thread is not the OOC for the African Righteousness game. If you interested in joining, I am recruiting on a rolling basis.

Lagos teems with the corrupt, the ruthless, and the helpless. Corporations and warlords trade blood tainted commodities on the backs of indentured labor. Scientists use the population as a petri dish for the most dangerous medical experiments. Thugs extort money from the downtrodden.

All that is about to frakked to hell.

Rumors begin swirling about people and spirits of incredible and unique magical powers enacting justice in the worst parts of the city. Spectral forms made of pure lightning running down professional enforcers. People who seeming teleport through walls, escaping from flesh traders.

These people are hiring. Realizing the nature of the Sixth world, they now pursue covert activities. Unfortunately, their few actions have received more notice than their naïve preconceptions predicted. They need people with experience. Although preferring the altruistic and idealistic, they need true professionals, even if they don’t share the same goals.

You’re welcome aboard, if you’ve got the skills.

I’m recruiting for an experimental game of SR4A. The main goals are to provide an experience of righteous bad-ass action. You’ll have the opportunity to gain and use abilities and equipment that dazzle, amaze, and overwhelm. Most of the new stuff will not be in the sourcebooks.

Of course, be prepared for an appropriate opposition (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Although I’m running the game with a lot of power, I do not tolerate munchkinning. I reserve the right to knock someone off for wantonly increasing their own power without regard to the other players, the plot, or me the GM. I like the cooperative and action-orientated uniqueness of role playing, and I will provide an environment for that. I will give fair warning and will suggest better behavior before resorting to booting anyone from the game.

Char-Gen:
  1. 600 BP
  2. Martial arts are not counted toward Qualities
  3. No initial active skill cap. (i.e. you are not isolated to having only one 6 level skills or two 5 level skill.)
  4. No restrictions on gear or equipment.
  5. Must provide 20 questions and some backstory.

20 Questions:
[ Spoiler ]

I will note that I am considering not allowing any possession magical traditions in the mix, but stay tuned for my decision.

Please let me know if you'd like to join!

Alright! The A-team goes postal! Count me in! I'm writing my dissertation, but if play doesn't get off the ground for two or three weeks then I can give fair attention.

I've toyed with the concept of a Zoroastrian Tradition magician who believes himself to be an angel, fallen from the service of Ahura Mazda as a smiter of evil and desperate to win his way back into the heavenly fray. This would be right up his alley.

On the other hand, this is Lagos. Background count everywhere. Hmmm.... no limit on stuff. Delta grade Move-by-Wire?

EDIT: OK, OK! Move-by-Wire 3 with the Biocompatibility Quality.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) That would fit incredibly well with the campaign.

While the background count could pose a challenge, there might be eventual rewards that would help with the background count...

I can't start anything till after the weekend but I'll come up with something soon. I'll see what other positions get filled. Got a few characters on the back burner.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I've got a TM that might be fun to play in a game like this.

Sweetness! This looks like a game I would love to play in.

Not sure what type of character, but I was thinking of a weapons specialist/gunslinger type. I'll work on something tomorrow morning and post it.

Ohhh... I hope I get in, I hope I get in...

Back only a few days and already a brain crunching game comes along... do you allow initiation/emergence on build? (That could help deal with the background count, with Cleansing, neh?).

...dangit brain, seriously... stop coming up with ideas for freerunning martial arts nutjobs...

Hmm, be a badass hired on as a "good guy"? I like it. Character concept will follow but consider me interested.

Quick question: What is your stance on infected and metatype variants?

Good to go, but there will be, shall we say, special considerations that will happen in game.

Excellent, your posts sound good so far, and I look forward to the char concepts and builds. As long as the build is legal and meets my conditions, you will be in. I'm going to allow 3 more after this post.

Regarding Possession: They're in. After preponderance of the opinion and evidence, I will allow them.

Hey, this sounds like fun.

How would you adjudicate Initiation costs?

I think I have a bad habit of going a bit OTT so you might have to answer some questions about stuff like long term binding and stuff.

For Initation costs, I'm going with the RC conversion for BP to Kharma: roundup ( BP × 2 ) = Karma. Any Kharma Left over will be carried over.

Yeah, go ahead with the binding questions and stuff.

Standard Race limits and Augment limits.

For convenience, please use the spreadsheet the DamienKnight has provided. http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=902567 Although there are a few bugs with it, it is for the most part alright. When you make the conversion of BP to Karma, make a note of it on the Karma log on the Spreadsheet. Once done with it, please post a link in which I can download the spreadsheet. Megaupload.com, rapidshare, sharebee.com are all good places to upload it to.

Actually, I was referring to the BP limits of two 5s or one 6. Kinda like the skill caps.

And I usually use Damien's spreadsheet, so that makes it pretty easy for me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Current idea: Fomori Bioadept. Deserted a mercenary outfit while on a campaign when they started killing civies (especially kids) and is hiding from the bounty on his head in Lagos.

Since this is my chance to go crazy with character builds, I've got a couple ideas that come to mind. The one I'm leaning towards most is a Ghoul(Orc) physical adept that used to be a member of tamanous. For reasons yet to be determined he had a falling out and now seeks to undermine the organization.

For a 400 BP character, the limit for BP for Core Attributes is 200. For this campaign is the limit up to 300, or are we still at 200 out of the box?

Answering both questions, 200BP BUT no limits of two 5's or one 6. If you really want extra BP limit for attributes, I encourage you to convince me based on the backstory. However, I am intentionally encouraging more skills, because there will be need for flexibility for a variety of mission types.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) It has my approval. You'll also have some unique opportunities in the campaign. When you get your background donw, please give me some concept about the merc outfit.

Oh gods, I have just had a real good look at the build guide-lines and I think I may have had an evil-gasm.

On the subject of long-term binding (or linking for TM's) it is quite easy to use this to acquire, effectively, permanent buffs without the expense and complication of quickening or sustaining foci.

This often presents a problem because Mages have a great many fantastic buffs that are only really balanced by the system being designed to prevent their use. Once you start using them all at the same time without restriction things often get out of hand.

If you're concerned about abuse I might go with a phys-ad concept which isn't so bad, being more inherently balanced.

How do you feel about meta-types like Pixie or Shapeshifter?

Yeah, crizh, I saw some possibilities, too. But budoka05 did say he would veto anything that looked particularly egregious. So, he may take exception to a spirit of Man bound long-term maintaining something like an Increase Reflexes spell on your magician. On the other hand, he may just remind you that he would need just one successful counterspell to bring down that house of cards.

EDIT: Although I suppose the wording of the command could be helpful: "Keep me sped up with Increase Reflexes for the duration of your Binding." That might work.

Having binded spirits maintaining Increased Attributes or Reflexes are fine. That goes for quickened spells too. However, just as crizh says, there are means in which those may go away in situations. Since Lagos is a no-man's land of magical danger, keep that in mind.

Also, bear in mind there will be many different types of missions. While magical users will obviously be powerful, they won't be the best in all situations nor succeed in all situations.
