To drag my topic back to topic, Free spirits would be a good idea. I was thinking of a player character who ends up getting Awakened after an encounter with a free spirit who looks like one of the fey.

reminds me of the old joke, why do you put duct tape around a fairy?

Dunno. Why?

You're kidding?

The same reason you duct-tape devil rats and hamsters -- to keep them from exploding.

Good, I'm not the only sick bastard who knows it then. lol

Maybe this says something about the people I associate with, but I've only ever met one person who didn't know -- a poor Brit who almost snarfed his beer when my buddy had to explain it to him.

Including hand gesture. :grinbig:

As for the Free Spirit approach -- sure, it would work. The character could also be surgically altered, but that wouldn't make him a "True Fairy" either.

Why not treat the Fey as a completely new race, kind of like the Shedim? They could be a 'good thing' that comes from the Comet's arrival (Weren't there a ton of spirits along with Ghostwalker riding it-were they all Shedim?). Of course, with both Seelie and Unseelie Fey, 'good' is relative.

Since SR has Elementals, Spirits of Man, etc. it wouldn't be too hard to have Fey as another variety (use the Domovoi, Knockers, and Wild Hunt as examples). Most of the Free Spirits have common motives (player, shadow, etc.), but you COULD design a breed or race of Free Spirits that shared the same general traits.

Just a few ideas...

I'm now focusing on a fey-taught mage. Spells I'm thinking of include:
Clean Air
Clean Earth
Clean Water (All three for obvious reasons!)
Shape Earth (Flat ground helps when doing a ritual)
Create Food (No need to use tools that dig into the earth)

Trappings would include objects made of wood.

Oh dear [insert appropriate divinity or non-divine cosmological force here]. That's like asking if there are any good sites on Witchcraft/Wicca. Personally I like the Brian Froud myself. He has a web site here:

I'm thinking that a fey archetype would be an anima/guardian spirit. What do you think?

That'd certainly be interesting. Woo for animism!

Interesting but I'm not a big fan of "really alternative" character races.

While it can be an interesting role-playing experience, I've had too many bad experiences with people playing half-Githyanki, half-Great Fiends and so on.

Can't believe I missed this.

Paranormal Animals of Europe had a listing for Faerie creatures on page 114, basically stating that they were critters which followed slightly different rules and behaviors, with much stronger than normal powers. It only had 3 versions, the Spirit Domovoi, the physical Knocker, and the Spirit Great Hunt. Basically they had the usual assortment of powers plus some special Faerie powers like Fading (Vanish totally from the metaplanes, astral plane, and real world at will) and Glamour (Desire Reflection on steroids).

But I don't think Fanpro followed whatever plan FASA had in mind for their faeries since they never showed up in later books.

Yeah, I already mentioned that. I'm going to work on converting them to SR3, once I get the book back. There were a few other creatures in the main section of the book listed as faerie creatures...Baen-sidhe for one.
The wild hunt has third edition stats already, MITS p.122

Got MITS. I'm thinking of having one faerie being a great-form forest anima/guardian spirit. What do you think?

Seriously though, I reckon that a faerie with Infection would freak out any runner, even in an amoral campaign.

I'm all in favor of freaking players out -- the 6th world is supposed to be strange and bizarre with new wierdness being the only constant.

I've yet to see a SR game that successfully captured that weirdness factor.
