To me this happens /all/ the time in the Shadowrun world in my imagination. Open Conflicts in small parts of the world noone cares about. Small Countries dealing with AA corps that have sometimes more money and better military than they do. |

I wanted a small-scale conflict between a minor 6th world nation and an AA-rated megacorp - the sort of thing that could go on in the background news posts and JackPoint login pages and stuff for multiple sourcebooks, provide hooks for mercenary runs, that sort of thing. I'd just been reading Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changes the World by Mark Kurlansky, so I was sort of focusing on the Cod Wars - the three incredibly low-key conflicts between Iceland and Great Britain about fishing rights. The basic plot I'd come up with is that Gaeatronics had bought a small island off the coast of the Thule Protectorate (Iceland) with the intent to build a geothermal power plant; the local officials objected because the geothermal tap and/or waste runoff would change the ecological balance of the surrounding waters, effecting fishing and other activities as well as causing possible fallout on the astral plane. Heated dialogue from Gaeatronics (who try to go over the local official's head to the Trans-Polar Aleut government), and the chilly demeanor of the Thule natives lead to a blockade of the island, which prompts several small incidents (blockade running, sabotage, a helicopter getting shot down by a surface-to-air-missile from a Thule fishing boat, etc.) until the situation escalates into an undeclared open conflict. That...didn't happen. I wanted it to happen. I even included a brief bit in my TNN draft that was designed for the Tir elves to put pressure on Thule to relinquish certain claims on the sunken islands in exchange for weapons. However, other war-based plotlines gained greater prominence in the popular imagination. Hmm. Whole thing sounds kinda fishy to me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rotfl.gif) But in all seriousness that would have been pretty interesting. Could still make a great unofficial module. |

For some reason I really want to name a character Swordfish Mustardball... I'll amend one of my quotes: Pixie Clanks chasing a Lone Star Cop, named Swordfish Mustardball, riding a Unicorn (decked out with cyber and armor) in search of the mystic Tiger Eyes Belly Button Ring in the cavern of the Missing Dumpshock Threads hired by a Mr. Johnson working for The Evil Twirling Mustache Company which is owned by the Great Dragon Trollman. -M&P |

So with the info we gleaned from the NordCon report (several interested parties for the Shadowrun license), is it possible that a bidding war is going on between those parties and CGL with Topps. Could have Topps given all interested parties time to submit plans/payment guarantees, and that is the reason we are hearing very little news regarding the license?

Personal opinion - this is not a typical Dumpshock thread, and people shouldn't make summary judgements about the overall forum based on the asshatery that goes on here. This thread is about a situation that could really harm the SR franchise. It's understandable that people get zealous and forceful with their opinions. But you can go to 98%* of the other threads on the board and you don't see any flaming.
Dumpshock is full of people who really like Shadowrun. The idea that we have people passionate about the game is a good thing. Having people who are developers and writers also being passionate about the game and actually willing to spend a significant amount of their time on this forum talking with the players is a really really good thing. If folks here sometimes take things a little further than they should because they have strong opinions about what's best for Shadowrun, at least it's better than everybody shrugging their shoulders and giving a collective "Meh" because they don't care enough to get worked up about things. *95% of all statistics quoted in threads are inaccurate. The other 14% are misleading. |

Cthulhutech is publishing with Sandstorm. I see what they did there.
I really like Cthulhutech and I hope they can go a little bit longer this time before switching publishers. |

Anything that deals with the Trans-Polar Aleut and its weird little brother Iceland gets my vote just for the insanity of that whole situation (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

QUOTE Lake Stevens, Washington June 10th, 2010 Sandstorm and WildFire – Setting the Gaming Industry Ablaze Isn’t it strange how you can sit down at a business meeting, and as soon as the zombies start crawling out of the fields of wildflowers, the ties come off and people start having fun? Business in the gaming industry should be about having fun. It should be about making awesome games that people love to play. And, of course, it should be about making good business decisions, even when faced with the rise of unmentionable gods and invading hordes of aliens. That’s why we at Sandstorm are delighted to announce that we’re joining forces with WildFire to bring a great lineup of games to the gaming industry. From their award winning CthulhuTech game world to new, fun (and rather addictive) games—like Poo—currently available or in production, WildFire has an ambitious plan for future releases. With Sandstorm’s capitalization and production management services, it’s a match made in heaven. Or in monster-strewn hell, depending on your taste. From the moment we joined forces, we’ve hit the ground running to bring you the games you’ve been itching for. Stop by and visit us at Origins and GenCon to see the new lineup of coming CthulhuTech books, play a game of Poo, or just chat a bit about monsters, mayhem, and the future. WildFire LLC and Sandstorm Productions LLC. The Storm is building. ***** WildFire LLC is the creative mastermind behind the ENnie Award-winning and Origins Award nominated CthulhuTech roleplaying line, as well as the Origins Award nominated Poo: the Card Game. They will also be releasing the Chthonian Stars roleplaying line for the Traveller roleplaying game later this year, a Lovecraftian sci-fi exploration set in the near future. The creative partners at WildFire have nearly a half century of industry experience behind them designing roleplaying, miniatures, and casual games. Their planned release schedule over the coming years contains several exciting new product lines that are sure to set the market on fire! Sandstorm Productions LLC is a Kansas based capitalization and production company dedicated to partnering with premium studios to bring the best games to market. In addition to WildFire, their partner studios include Closet Nerd Games and Posthuman Studios. Sandstorm assists with the capitalization and production of a wide range of gaming products, from classic RPGs to family and educational board games. Take away: Sandstorm LLC is now publishing for Wildfire. Perhaps more interestingly, Sansdtorm's kicker text at the end of the press release mentions a partnership with Posthuman. Sandstorm put out a press release about Closet Nerd earlier and the substance of this PR is about Wildfire, but there's not been a full blown statement regarding Posthuman. This is essentially a backdoor announcement that they'll also be publishing Eclipse Phase. Or a massive screwup. But they're probably publishing Eclipse Phase. |

Something I saw and thought about as well. There is no announcement on either Sandstorm or Posthuman though. The reason I chose to let it sit is that it does not define the nature of the partnership. Sandstorm and Posthuman have people that have worked together in the past; its entirely possible that there is some business relationship that does not involve Sandstorm publishing for Posthuman. I don't know what it might be, but it is something to consider. |
