I wasn't sure if I could because I think I read somewhere that you can only buy hits if there isn't a negative consequence for failing (so it wouldn't work on drain). But maybe I'm confusing it with D&D's Take 20.

But if I'm allowed I'd buy hits on everything. I think levitate needs one hit per 100kg moved which would make 2 hits enough for all but the most overweight people.

Ah, well, it does say the gamemaster should allow it when the situation is non-threatening or non-stressful (not sure if this would count) and when the character has a large dice pool and is unlikely to fail (large being relative, but the 4-to-1 ratio suggests the bounds expected), so probably best to roll until DH says otherwise.

I just thought I would bring it up, because in PBP games this can be a real time-saver - especially when you need to link rolls, and roll individually.

I've temporarily got actual internet access back (huzzah) so while I have it I thought I'd put my character details up. Now, I've had no word from DH about whether or not the character's legal, so if someone wants to check over it feel free.

Character Background:

Alex is something of an oddity among the residents of Low-Down, since he was born with a legitimate UCAS SIN. Born to a mid-ranking officer and his stay-at-home wife, Alex grew up in Fort Lewis, though he spent a lot of time with the elves of Tarislar due to his mother, who was the child of elves who had dreamed of reaching Tir Tairngire, and was thus determined that her son would grow up being exposed to his 'elven heritage'. As a result of this, the base guards were used to Alex coming and going with some regularity, and the soldiers in his neighbourhood began to take advantage of this. Initially, they would simply ask him to deliver letters to off-base sweethearts and occasional bets to bookies that operated in Tarislar. As he grew older, however, the nature of what he smuggled changed, and by the age of seventeen he was smuggling drugs, booze, and weaponry for the soldiers inside the base, getting his supplies from a Princes-affiliated dealer by the name of Remy. This arrangement would most likely have continued unchanged, were it not for Tempo. As the balance of power shifted, old dealers found themselves fighting a losing battle, and Alex was one of those caught in the middle; he had no desire to become a Tempo mule, but his position within the old order was far from secure. Things came to a head when he was jumped by a group of The Princes who had affiliated themselves with the Tempo kingpins of the area, and had been given instructions to teach ostensibly neutral individuals such as Alex how dangerous their stance was. After several days of hide and seek throughout the slums surrounding Tarislar they were closing in on Alex, when a fortuitously timed Lone Star crackdown allowed him to slip away in the confusion. Realizing he was no longer safe at either Fort Lewis or Tarislar, he fled deeper into the Barrens, finding himself in Low-Down, where he offered his services as a courier to the Loveland Dozen, trading his skill set for the protection of being in a gang, as he knew it would only be a matter of time before the gangers he had earlier evaded came looking for him.

Sgt. Alicia Hudson (Connection 2/Loyalty 2) (Meta: Human)

Sgt. Hudson is part of Fort Lewis' MP detachment, and is usually found at one of the base entrances, overseeing the MP detachment guarding it. She was Alex's main contact with the MPs, and could often be persuaded to overlook the contents of his vehicle for the right price, though she is loyal to the army in her way and will draw the line at attempts to smuggle in weaponry or explosives. She also has a love of genuine whisky, which is what Alex tended to bribe her with whenever attempting to move goods through her checkpoint.

Neil 'Normal' Byron (Connection 2/Loyalty 2) (Meta: Human)

'Normal' is the owner of a quasi-legal courier company operating from the edge of Loveland that changes its name on an almost weekly basis, but is usually referred to simply as 'Normals' by the freelancers that work for him. Asking no questions and refusing no customers, Normal makes his living by having anything delivered anywhere, though getting them into secure or more upmarket areas will cost extra. Alex goes to Normal for the occasional job when money is slow, or if he's looking for the latest gossip from other freelance couriers in the area.

'Upgrade' (Connection 2/Loyalty 1) (Meta: Troll)

'Upgrade' is a local chop-shop owner operating out of a string of mechanic shops scattered throughout the Barrens. Professing no allegiance to any gang, Upgrade sells his wares and expertise to anyone that can meet his prices. The only known way to get in good with him is that he has a great love of Urban Brawl, so any juicy rumours about the players or odds on an upcoming match might make him like you. Maybe.

Everything seems kosher.

Though it does seem like a strange choice to avoid the Influence skill group. You'd save 4 BP off the top and get the Leadership Skill at no cost. Seems like an army brat could have picked up something on leadership. Persuasion, tactics, morale? Not so out of line.

End of vacation/transition back to work time killed me... I'm not sure where my head went for the last few days of leave, but I came back to extended days, and a hell of a lot of artificial stress...

This is my top priority, guys. Above all, this game remains my focus... it'll just be a bit rattled for the next few months.

On the plus side: Come November I will have a schedule that is set in stone, includes no sailing, and a workplace with plenty of time to kill and net access.

With that in mind, there will be a few days of me just being a lazy assclown when I get home (I've spent the past month and a half being battered at sea), and then it's back into the game.

I liked Micky's character concept. I think it works well for a low power game. Maybe I'll have to see if I can rework him into a 400 bp character for something else. I'm not sure if he will translate well. the drugging con tactic might be limited to street level campaigns...

With life having settled down some from recent adjustments, I'm going to be trying to make a push back to playing/running things online again. I had a work shift that on paper was beautiful for time off with my shore posting, but turned out to be hell on the system... and just when I had begun adjusting, they changed me to dayworking status. That means less hours in the week worked, which means regular online time... and that means an attempt to resume this game...

...if anyone still cares to play that is.

So, is there still interest for a resuming of the game in the new year?
