• Watcher spirits don't suck at watching/searching: Treat watchers as Force = Summoner's Magic when using Perception, Assensing and the Search power. (This essentially means watchers roll 2*Magic for those cases.)
• No emotitoys or emotion software.
• 20 Dice Pool cap.
• SIN checks aren't opposed tests. SINs are checked with a System + Verification Software (SIN rating) test. This may be an extended test with an interval determined by the scanner in use. (System + Verification Software simplifies to 2*Scanner Rating for basic scanners.)

Background:
In the evening of 6 July 2039 the second son of the family Sasaki was born. His parents named him Kojiro after a famous swordsman. At the age of 4 the family went on holiday to Hong Kong, where a bomb exploded in their hotel. Somehow he survived, but the rest of the family did not. His uncle took him in and taught him the art of Ninjutsu. On his 18th birthday he got a file with all the info his uncle had gathered on the death of his sister (Kojiro’s mother). It was obvious the Triads were to blame, most likely the Red Dragon Association. Kojiro vowed he would make the great dragon Lung pay for their deaths. He learned Karate for deadlier punches and even managed to enhance it with magic in the form of Killing Hands and Smashing Blow. Especially for kicking he learned Tae Kwon Do and for a short time he could magically increase his strength. At the age of 21 he went to Hong Kong in search of Triads to kill. Soon he found out that it would be helpful to learn the fighting style of his enemies, Kung Fu. He found a trainer who took him to the Wuxing Skytower in Aberdeen where he could actually see his power for the first time. Within a year a violent Triad war breaks out between the Red Dragon Association and its main rival, the Yellow Lotus Triad. Kojiro or Yuki Kondo (the SIN he was broadcasting) was happy with the result of his work. Although he was pretty sure there were other reasons for the war, he was very pleased that (at least) he contributed.

He prayed Lung would lose and tried to make some money running the shadows under the name Hope.

Milo Green was born in Australia, in the early 2040's. He was the oldest of 5 children, his parents were at best Upper Lower Class. When he was 17, the best that his parents could offer Milo was a job along his father as a Janitor for Happy Joy Chemicals Inc, a wholly owned Subsidiary of the Wuxing Corporation. He was outfitted with the best in Wuxing Skillwire technology, the cost of the surgery and cyberware taken out of his paycheck in low low installments. About a month before his 19th birthday, Milo became the guardian and sole bread winner for his 5 siblings. His parents dying in tragic bus accident. Their bus was used by a group of gangers as an initiation test. Things were tough for Milo, but he'd been studying computer programming and applied for a position with Wuxing proper. He was a junior programmer working on their Skillsoft line. He was transfered to Hong Kong, along with his siblings and all were given Wuxing SINs, renouncing their Australian Citizenship. It was a good five years for Milo. He worked hard, kept his nose clean, and made just enough money to afford the corporate housing for 5, and daily meals, and the Joyous Golden Flower® HealthCare plan. By the age of 24 Milo was the Technical Lead for his programing group, and things were looking up. There was even talk of sending him to the Wuxing Management Seminars. Unfortunately, things did not go as well as one might hope. His youngest sister was diagnosed with some major health issues that quickly burned through Milo's HealthCare Spending Accounts. Desperate, Milo used his programming skills and internal knowledge of the Wuxing Matrix Environment to increase his Medical Coverage to Platinum. Thankfully, this allowed for fairly extensive genetic therapy, saving his sister's life. Unfortunately this put Milo in a very precarious position. Every Audit Cycle he had to hack the system and undo the settings while the audit ran, then re-establish them once the audit was done.

This went on for two years, before he was caught. The outcome was actually much better than one would expect. Milo was fired, marked as a Criminal to Wuxing, and dumped on the streets of Hong Kong with only the clothes on his back and the cyber in his body. His family though, lucked out. His youngest sister was 22 and a Secretary for a Mid level Executive. She was able to take both physical and financial responsibility for the remaining three simblings, allowing them to stay as Citizens of Wuxing in good standing. Except of course that Danielle had to shoulder the debt of 2 years of Platinum Mountain Spring Healthcare. Danielle is hoping to have it paid off in 50 years, maybe.

Forced onto the streets with no money, no resources and only the clothes on his back, Milo turned to Crime and Shadowrunning almost immediately. He's been heavily involved in the Matrix/Shadowrun community here in Hong Kong for the least 4 years.

He sends 50% of what he earns after covering his rent to his sister, through some shell accounts in the hopes of helping her payback Wuxing faster.

Since then, they've spent some time getting to know each other, though neither truly trusts the other just yet.

Appearance:
Max always looks like he just rolled out of bed. His clothes are almost always rumpled, and he's given up trying to tame the wild mop that is his hair. With his perpetually half-closed eyes and bored expression, he looks like he's going to fall asleep at any moment. He rarely smiles, though his friends always mention how much a simple smile does to make him handsome. Those are also the friends who dive for cover when Max starts grinning though. They know that his grins, which enhance his likeness to his Mentor Spirit (Monkey), mean that somebody's about to get pranked.

Background:
Max was a quiet kid growing up in his wageslave home under his wageslave parents. He was no trouble at all, until he started talking about his "imaginary friend" the monkey. At first, his parents just thought he was making the monkey up, a little late for an imaginary friend, but not beyond the realms of believable. However, when Max started playing pranks and blaming them on his monkey friend, the poor wageslaves didn't know what to do, so they took him to a counselor. The counselor explained to them that Max had burgeoning magical powers, and that he would be a valuable asset for the corporation when he grew up. Max got shipped off to a new school, where he met other talented individuals. Max soon became inseparable from a young adept by the name of Mark. Mark's magic was focused around computer usage, so they got along well, with Max doing the physical work for the pranks while Mark made sure they weren't caught. Eventually, Max and Mark decided they didn't want to be wageslaves like their parents and decided to escape. Mark managed to acquire a goodly amount of money from their parents, and the two ran away. Unfortunately, they weren't exactly prepared for life on the streets, and, as one thing led to another, Max and Mark eventually pulled a prank on someone who did not approve and was more than willing to show said disapproval. To save you from the gory details, Mark received a lead-based lobotomy and Max received a serious need to visit a counselor once more, though he didn't really have money to pay for one. Since then, his pranks have become far less light-hearted, and he's learned that sometime pranks need to be saved for a better time. These days, he runs the shadows as a way to earn a buck, lending his spells to whoever pays the best.

A young and talented doctor, who was forced to go self-employed due to a series of unfortunate events that had cost him his previous job. The Red Dragon Association helped him with a sizable loan, so he could get his own clinic. In return, they get a sizable amount of his winnings and also have a doctor who will gladly work for them, even if the tasks are not quite legal. Xiao Ling was one of his patients, the contact has been made by the Triad.

Appearance:
An attractive half-asian woman with a slender and willowy figure. Her dark-brown hair is worn open and at shoulder-length, and her beautiful dark-brown eyes nicely complement her pretty face. Being quite used to wearing revealing clothes, she is usually seen in tight leathers, or other slinky outfits, usually short and with a low cut, especially on her working nights in the Lucky Six, where this kind of seductive wardrobe is, of course, expected. She favors western-style clothes, in order to underline her mixed heritage, though she also has a number of chinese dresses, like long and short cheongsams, in her extensive wardrobe. She always appears tastefully styled and well-groomed, and personal hygiene seems to be vital to her.

Lifestyle:
Ling's penthouse is pure luxury. She occupies two stories of a modern residential tower located at the northern end of the prestigious Wan Chai district near the bay. While it's not Victoria Peak, it's about the next best thing, especially if you often dive into Hong Kong's nightlife. The all-glass building front offers a nice view on the busy streets of the Wanchai-Causeway, while on the rear side, she can look over the bay. Of course, the vast window front works both ways, and she has little privacy in her living room that way.

Background:
Her father was an american soldier on his short leave, and long gone, when she was born. Her mother was a street worker, who died shortly after giving birth to the child, thanks to less than stellar medical care. And so Lijuan ended up in an orphanage and later on the rough streets of Hong Kong. Luckily, she had inherited an interesting mix of talents from her parents. She had her mother's good looks and charms, and her father's nimbleness and endurance. From her mother's side, she also got her magical talents. While her mother herself wasn't awakened, there have been a number of adepts in her line, and this magical ability was passed on to Lijuan. From her father, who was part of a genetically-altered super-soldier program, she gained some twists to her genetic code, which gave her inhuman reflexes and also gifted her with the ability to feel absolutely no pain. Armed with these talents and having gone through a life on the rough streets of Hong Kong, Lijuan became a very capable street fighter over the years. She also learned to make use of her feminine wiles early on, and how to enhance them with her magic. One step followed the next, and soon enough she found herself on the payroll of a local Triad. She might have ended up walking the streets like her mother, but her various talents allowed her entry into a better life. By doing illicit jobs for the Triads, she was able to live quite comfortably and also acquire some useful items, like a forged SIN. On the front-side, she is employed as a hostess in one of the Triad's classier night clubs, the Lucky Six, a western club, which also includes a casino and gambling den, where she makes frequent appearances, while her SIN also lists her as a high-class escort. Only rarely does she actually indulge in this kind of service, however, and not out of financial needs, having enough of an income to pay for her rather expensive lifestyle through the other channels. But occasionally someone comes along who interests her enough, that she is actually inclined to accept the offer, the money not being the motivation then. It does allow her to explain the sudden influxes to her regular income, though, which usually come through the illicit jobs she is being hired for. Exploring this latter direction further, shadowrunning was the next step up, and her income became even better that way. In the shadows, she started to use the name Ting-Ting. She also learned to disguise herself, even change her actual face through her magic, because her job in the night club makes her easily reckognizable by many of the patrons, and while she is quite fond of it during her hostess work, and even outside of the club it is quite useful occasionally, she has little use for the attention when she is on a run. The shadow trade also has its downsides, and she often ended up in dangerous situations. While that wasn't new to her, it was raised to a new level as compared to the rough streets, and she did see a need to be able to better handle those situations. That got Ting-Ting started with augmentations. The hard impact on her magical talents wasn't quite expected, and her body also noticably healed much slower after the modifications were done, a side effect of the bio-implants not being fully accepted by her body. But the damage is done, and nowadays she has to arrange with the conflicting forces inside her. She began with meditation to be able to sustain most of her powers, and to find inner balance.

Contacts:
Shen Li (L2C3) a 426 of the Red Pole Triad. Li finds Dr Yang a little too sentimental for his liking, but the value of a good street doctor who will patch up wounded people in Hong Kong is quite high.

Han Hung (L2C3) runs "The Dragon Crys" a very dodgy establishment that regularly (twice a month or so) holds "extreme no rules" extreme fighting contests, but his main business is Fixing thing. Dr Yang took part in one of these when first coming to Hong Kong, and got very good odds. The match was must tougher than expected, but Dr Yang managed to win, and got enough money to support him and his kid for a couple of months. Dr Yang has no intention of going back in the pit: for a start the danger will be the same or higher, and the rewards will be a lot less - not nearly such good odds.

Appearance:
Well dressed, spectacles rather than shades. Under his sleeves on both arms he has the acupuncturists elastic wrist band with many needles. Around his neck under his shirt he has a pendant with the image of a tiger on it. His foci are gem stones inside the wrist bands, and also the necklace.

Often seen with his son Yang Hwan, who is now 10. Doc Yang runs an illicit clinic in (some dodgy part of town). The triads often bring their wounded to him. In exchange for these medical services, the triads allow him to continue operating, and provide a small amount of protection.

Background:
Dr Yang is an ageing and respected Doctor looking after his only son. An expect in moxibustion, acupuncture and auriculotherapy, he is none the less very experienced with western medical technology, and spent 5 years practicing medicine as a first line paramedic with Doc Wagon. Last year his wife was killed by unknown martial artists and his house was burnt down. Dr Yang had to flee. Dr Yang is currently in hiding in Hong Kong, a thousand miles from his home town as the life of his son is more important than vengeance. Once a formidable martial artist, Dr Yang is finding that he is having to rely more and more on his magic and western technology to help him, some part of him regards this as cheating, but the daoist part of him knows that cheating is the divine way.

Lao Wai has become good friends with Dante after eating from his food stall every day outside of his company's offices (Wuxing). The fact that Dante speaks some English helps too, as Lao Wai is from CAS and speaks little Chinese. Lao Wai is not his real name, but that's what Dante calls him anyway. The two now meet at Dante's place, drink beer or liquor, and play VR games. Lao Wai has been useful to Dante, giving him corporate tips about Wuxing and also setting Dante up with other foreign contacts. Lao Wai gave Dante the ARO contact information for a hacker named Fractal, who provided Dante with some software Dante was having trouble finding.

Jones - hacker 1/3
Jones is an AI that has installed itself in the network of Dante's apt complex. Apparently an AI that reached sentience from some sort of immersive VR game project, all Jones wants to do is watch movies or play video games. He constantly fudges with Dante's games and scores, sometimes even interrupting a game for no apparent reason. Jones even thinks he is being mischievous by deleting all Matrix records of Dante whenever he gets around to it, about once a week. Dante is sometimes able to bribe Jones to retrieve a bit of intel from the Matrix in exchange for spending a few hours losing to him at WEPES:Ultimate.

Jiu Jiu - fixer 3/4
After having left Beijing because of difficulties with the local government / triad groups, Dante's fixer in Beijing hooked him up with Jiu Jiu in Hong Kong. Jiu Jiu has a very friendly demeanor- he tends to remind people of their favorite uncle. Jiu Jiu is a Hong Kong native, speaks several languages fluently, and seems to know everyone. He has gotten Dante good work in Hong Kong, including body guard and security gigs.

Dante has had to make connections with various triad gangs around Hong Kong. These two are the ones that he has dealt with the most. Through his triad connections Dante has met another runner by the name of Ting-Ting.

Yamada Taro - Mechanic 4/2
Taro was introduced to Dante by Jiu Jiu. Dante was initially skeptical about using Taro to repair his vehicles, his deep-seated dislike of the Japanese warring with the fact that Taro came highly recommended. Finally trusting his fixer, Dante came to find that Taro is a top-notch mechanic, and a good guy to hang out with. When he can, Dante spends time helping Taro out at his shop, fixing anything he can. He has even started picking up some Japanese to be able to "talk shop" with Taro. Dante's positive interactions with Taro, and his successful run with a ninja called Hope, has caused his dislike of the Japanese people to fade. While still not sure he likes them as a whole, he is now not as vocal about it and is willing to give individual Japanese a chance to prove themselves.

Jing Cha - Police detective 2/4
Police in Hong Kong are notoriously corrupt, and Jing Cha is no different. His path crossed with Dante's while investigating an unrelated case. Even though Dante didn't have anything to do with his case, Jing Cha was able to extract a bribe from him. The little bit of intel he let slip mostly made up for the cost to Dante. Ever since then, the two have a very good business relationship.

Gong An - Police beat cop 2/3
Selling food on the street without a license is grounds for impounding the equipment and a severe fine. Unless the local police assigned to this task have been bribed. Which is exactly how Dante knows Gong An. He has been helpful to help cover up any remaining evidence left over after a run by Dante.

Ayi - Squatter 3/1
In making his rounds selling street food, Dante ends the day near where Ayi lives. He gives her the remaining food that he hasn't sold, and she gives him any information and gossip on the street. More than once he's gotten a decent bit of intel from this.

Sun Qi - KTV owner 2/3
Besides just liking KTV in general, Dante has found this is a great place to hold meets. The loud noise and completely separated rooms provides an ideal atmosphere for having a confidential meeting. Sun Qi runs a very clean, discreet KTV shop that Dante has used many times. Sun Qi runs a shop called "Best KTV" in the Mong Kok district.


Appearance:
A somewhat disheveled, pale man. Stands 1.9m tall, but slouches a little so it's hard to judge his real height. His large frame is wiry, with a slight paunch of middle-age beginning to show. Short, buzz-cut hair is black with grey on the sides and temples. Dante isn't one for shaving, so he has small sprouts of hair on his face, but nothing approaching a beard. His pale skin is a little grimey - showering too much is bad for a person's health. He has an air of confidence about him, but there's also something lurking in the back of his eyes that says he's seen something horrible. His two obvious cyberarms are usually covered, although he's not trying to hide them.

Lifestyle:
Dante was lucky and was able to rent a tong lou, getting a 3-story townhouse-like building in a neighborhood with many vacant buildings. The ground floor had been an old abandoned restaurant, which Dante has turned into his garage and work area. The mid-level floor is the living area, usually filled with VR game action. The top floor is for sleeping and whatnot. There is also a ladder to the roof here - on the roof is a door to the adjoining building.

Background:
He had begun to make a name for himself, running the Beijing shadows. But as often happens, he got deceived into taking a job that wasn't what it appeared to be. Making too many enemies too quickly, he left the heat behind and moved to Hong Kong on advice from his fixer, who knew a few people. Once in Hong Kong, Dante began a day job selling street food from the back of his vehicle. But the day job is also an effective cover for the times when he is on a run, commissioned by Jiu Jiu or some other member of the Hong Kong elite. About once or twice a week he has begun learning the Tiger Claw style martial art from Dr. Yang.

Feel free to advance IC time up until the 6:00 PM meeting. It's not in a restricted area, so unless you're planning on going somewhere else during the day there won't be any SIN checks to worry about. (And even then it'll likely not be an issue.)

Also to answer an observation from the creation thread, yes the 19th is Chinese New Years in 2072, so we're starting on the day prior to that. The date is intentional, and will at least be mentioned IC at the meet. (Plus the references to New Years in some of the character messages.)

You've basically got the majority of the day in case anyone has anything they'd like to take care of prior to the meet, and once everyone posts to the effect of heading to the teahouse, I'll move on to that scene.

I will also look into upgrading my current Fake SIN to Rating 6 most likely.

Impressive success rate there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) . You've actually heard of the place, and recognize it as a mostly invite-only place. Enough money can get you in even without a reservation though. So it's not the most exclusive teahouse around, but it's up on the list. It's located on the harbor, just outside the touristy area that is the Golden Mile, but the exterior decor doesn't really attract random foreigners.

Since it's generally an invite only establishment, dress is anything goes, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone there that was below 'business casual'. By the same token though, you're unlikely to find people completely dressed to the nines either. Styles will lean toward the traditional.

As far as the SIN, I don't think you can upgrade by the rules. I'll mull that over as a possibility, and see if I can find any rules either way, but for now it's probably best to just assume it's all or nothing.

1 hit isn't enough to have heard of it specifically. There are a lot of teahouses around, but given this one's location you're safe betting that something above basic street clothes would be preferred attire. (Getting the location is trivial, anything past that will require knowledge and/or data search rolls for anyone else interested.)

Yeah, I'd certainly buy that. Honestly, I'm inclined to say that upgrades are OK for the difference in price, but you have to use the availability and interval of the full new rating to get it. (R4->R6 is 2,000 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nuyen.gif) , but availability is 18 and interval is still 2 days.)
