"Side note: He mention Corps' shit lists. Do you know who they hire for those kinds of traces? Have you ever met the guy that knows the page references in novels, and lives to explain frame rates and polygon refreshing AR? That guy. Most of society thinks the paranoid obsessive cretins of the world are not useful. A good corp knows the value of the Nerd.

lol that's awesome.

I was hoping someone would dig that. Glad you liked it.

What the fuck is wrong with that pdf file?
it's slow as hell, no matter if i download it or try and open in in a browser . .
Also: who does that intro blurb remind me of?

You know, I noticed the same thing. But, I got it working in Foxit Reader really well, if that helps.

Anyone bought it and wants to share? the Preview looks a little ness like a trainwreck than War!, and some of the authors have delivered on SR before - and the one person present from the War Team is Filamena Young, who probably wrote the half decent parts of it ... still, anyone got anything on this thing?

Plus David A. Hill Jr., iirc.

Slowly working my way through it, and realized that we don't see much written BY FastJack himself. (And worried about his Daughter, eh? Hm, I wonder where that idea came from.).

Anyhow, reading it, I can't help but picture Spider Jerusalem sitting down in his easy chair, telling the TV Wall to "Entertain Me" while stroking "That Damned Cat".

All he needs now is a Bowel Disruptor.

By this point Fastjack is in his 50s isn't he? He's more the "old man" of the group. He delegates. lol He has for the last few runs anyway. He chimes in now and then but mostly it's "I found this expert to fill you all in on this subject"

From the main book, he says he was born in 1999 - so he's like 73 or so I think

kk well there we go. Even more so. And while I'm sure he can afford the tech to come off much younger than he seems. He's still not likely to be a front line sort. He's the respectiable 'old man' of the shadow run scene now. After Chaos died/went into the matrix.

Preview looks good so far, but given that this is the first post-War! book I'll hold on to my money until reading a couple of reviews, or reading the extra-large preview somewhere (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

PS: The TOC mentions "The Elementals"...I know I've read something about that, but I just can't put teh finger on it...

One hint: Total Eclipse

There is a ton of references to old adventures and old sourcebooks, especiall in The Music Scene chapter.

As an oldtimer I really like this.

Of course. I was up late, in my excuse. Well, maybe he has learned to use Grammar by now.

*giggle* Amusing image.

Well, on with the review. Firstly: It has an introduction. Seems this basic thing has been kept in mind with this. And it even ties in the well drawn but retarded tit window cover. Nice work, people (probably) long gone - if that's an idea by a new author, kudos. Also, proofers! Yay for quality control. Kudos to them all. If War taught me anything it's how valuable, yet underrated, these guys are.

However - and this is a question more than a nitpick: is "You’ll be caught up on fashion trends like" a sensible way to put "you will know about fashion trends"? Always thought that was 'have caught up'.

Posting more as I read deeper into this. I'll go about it page by page, even though I'm sort of itching to find out about the wearable drones. Especially how they handle IP.

Haven't read it cover to cover, but I made it through the crunchy bits in some detail. There are more useful items that I thought. The wearable drone jumps out at me as something that is unlikely to be allowed into most games. (Strength becomes 8, but agility is reduced by 1?)

Somehow my imagination has been tainted by countless variations of powered armor and military exoskeletons, so how does a wearable drone in a culture sourcebook look like?

PS: And a plea to CGL: Create one sharp background image (either high-res bitmap or vector graphic) for the Jackpoint page and use that in all future products. The fluctuating image quality across PDFs is just weird, and sometimes it looks really bad...based on the preview, Attitude seems to be somewhere in the middle (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Maybe Attitude also has a map - who knows?

I second the plea about vector graphics.

Pissy was a goal. Attitude's the name of the bit, I figured I'd dial it up a bit.

Thanks on the DocWagon thing, too.

"You'll be caught up on..." can be used, it has a similar meaning to "You'll be brought up to speed on..." or "You'll be briefed / taught about..."

That too. But I just didn't check the post for spelling. Usually, I try to catch me using German capitalisation rules, so it was a reasonably fair jab. Of course, I could also say he now owes me $18 then ...

Is that bad?

If Deus Ex: Human Evolution looks like Shadowrun, and the intro to Attitude, then who do you think inspired, and who was inspired?

Are you suggesting Attitude is a rip of of Deux Ex?

Wondering...

Then you're unfamiliar with pay in the RPG industry (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

No offense meant. Just poking fun. I'm not certain what specific grammatical errors I made in War, although in my defense I wasn't paid as the editor for that book. I'm sure I made mistakes. Could I have spent more time combing through my text for errors? Possibly. But when I'm on short deadlines, and have to do other work to pay the bills, sometimes I have to weigh the value of doing extra edits on something that's being handed to an editor anyway.

While I didn't write the intro, I will say that the writing for this book was done far before the Human Revolution material started filtering out into the public. IIRC, it was about a year and a half ago.

Well, it's the retail price of war, but yeah, it's 3 ct/word or something?

None taken. I lashed out, you jabbed back, all fair game. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Btw, if you wrote Bogotá (I think you did?), you made several rather glaring spelling errors like 'carniverous' that should have been caught in a spellcheck. Of course, that's usualy what proofers are for, so blaming you for the mistakes down the chain maybe is a bit unfair. Still, carniverous ... what is it with English natives and vowels anyway? I notice that a lot. Not directed at you personally, I'm just wondering.

Alright, then it's a Molly Millions/Gibson reference, I guess. Just, the similarities ARE striking.

I had the same problem, opened it up in Acrobat Pro, used the "reduce file size" tool set to "4.0 or later" compatibility.

Result: File size reduced about a megabyte, PDF pages load almost instantly now, no apparent loss of detail.

[edit] Crap, lost the Bookmarks as part of the process. Will have to look on this further
