I'll try not to let this derail either, but I'm gonna throw in my last two cents:

If the psychology papers you have read do not have scientific method applied or a hypothesis which can (theoretically) be disproved, you have been reading some extremely poor psychology papers. Seriously.

Last slide off the rail I promise (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) well yes, a "scientific" paper that doesn't fit the scientific method is poor, but very abound. I even got paid to be a human subject once that involved alcohol and electric shock (so very expensive and should have been well laid out), but their methodology was pisspoor for the thesis of the project; but hey I got paid to get drunk and electrocute myself so it didn't bother me much at the time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif)

Actually, it makes sense. Nice Vat-Grown Walnut Grips would be perfect for a pistol grip. Or some of the rubberized types that help with the felt recoil by absorbing some of it before it hits your wrist.

For longarms, it's more like customized or adjustable furniture so you can set it the way you like it. Personally, I'd also want a side saddle or shoulder brace pouches for spare bullets/magazines as options as well. Also, pre-made "Jungle Style"clips.

I'm sure Lone Star/Knight Errant will say you stay polite with the nice criminals who are ignoring all of society's moral code and laws, hand over your credstick, corporate scrip, watch, and your spouse for fun-fun times, and hit the PANICBUTTON! as soon as possible for the police to arrive quickly and efficiently.

...

Well, it's what the cops say today.

Lone star might be saying that, but Ares et al. will be saying "OMG! Muggers everywhere! Trolls will rape you! Ghouls will break into your house and eat your baby! The cops always arrive too late! You need to buy the (insert latest overpriced street-legal weapon here) or it will be your fault when orcs break into your home and defecate on your head!"

And who do you think has the biggest advertising budget?

you collect data and form statistical models that mostly work most of the time. To some that doesn't quite meet the standard for science.

So interpreting statistical data is not scientific...how are results of "hard" scientific experiments analyzed, again?

But there is one thing which is indeed totally unscientific: Hiding one's opinions behind weasel words like "some say". That's something you can do on WP.

Oh no, another custom grip fan (IMG:style_emoticons/default/frown.gif) I've always avoided that mod thinking it just too cheezy.

No not really a fan, it is one of those things that exists in RL. You should see how customized weapons (military and civilian both) have become in past few decades. Toss in a laser/red-dot sight on your .45 ACP Sig Sauer, add custom grips and you're good to go. The grips help with recoil and aiming in RL, but in SR they just help with the recoil.

No. Not at all. Just replacement Grips or Furniture, the pouches, and a side-saddle. Very common modification choices. The side-saddle just holds Shotgun shells on the other side of the ejection port, and the pouches is just a canvas (Or other fabric) cloth that fits over the shoulder brace and has been around for quite a long, long time. (You see them on M1 Carbines in WWII movies quite often.).

The Jungle Clips, well... They're purpose-made today, so no need to even break out the duct tape.

oh I know people go nuts on their man Barbies, didn't you see my jestful tacticool comment? And I know custom grips are legitimately helpful on recoil; I just usually fall back on some balance guidelines I learned long ago that I apply here as: if its a feature that everyone puts on every gun, its probably not balanced on cost vs benefit. Plus there is recoil and there is recoil. What helps save your hand from a 454 casul won't usually help keep a traditional ak design in full auto; it certainly won't in the case of custom grips.

You don't think all that is a bit excessive? I usually stick with one bit of extra stuff, otherwise weight gets heavy; I'm not much on walking around all day with a 20 lb weapon.

You've misinterpreted, I'm just trying to outline the argument not identifying my Opinion (which would be difficult on this topic as I don't really have one).

I'm talking about two mods. Three if you include the Jungle Clips, but that's a clip mod. One is just strapping some ammo onto the weapon for fast reloads. The Custom Grip can also be lighter weight than the original, too. Like Fiberglass Furniture on the usually wooden furniture of the AK-97.

You're going to be carrying that ammo anyhow, might as well be with the weapon instead of in a pouch.
