This popped up on Tumblr the other day and it's a great image, probably from one of the recent gun books, yeah?

I'm trying to figure out what book the Salvastra Penetrator shows up in. It looks nasty, but wasn't in the big list in Arsenal (unless I missed it?).

Thanks!

'Savalette' is what the page says, not 'Salvastra'?

is 20 a custom gun you made if not which book is it in I have never seen it before?

It was a bit inspired by Seburo Anti-Cyborg Weapons by Masamune Shirow. Not in any book.

#20 being the Savalette Penetrator you mentioned.

This is fan art, if I'm not mistaken, not from any of the books. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

The same artist also has a number of the longarms and heavy weapons in the same style.

It doesn't actually look like a very sensible design.

Looking at the placement of the parts, it doesn't looke like a bullpup arrangement, so the barrel appears to be less than a foot long. On the other hand the size of the magazine strongly suggests a long action accomodating cartridges with massive case capacity. Unless they are massively downloaded (bad for reliability) when you shoot that thing you'll get a huge fireball and a massive concussion but probably not very impressive muzzle velocity.

For actual penetration of armour you want serious muzzle velocity, and either a fat round which can accomodate its own shaped charges and all that good stuff, or a very high density penetrator (often made of depleted uranium, tungsten or similar).

The whole thing looks a lot more like a personal protection weapon for crew serving heavy equipment. Halve the length of the case, give it a bullpup design, and you'd be a lot closer to sanity.

If you want a close quarters armour piercing system, I'd expect it to be rather narrow round, with a relatively short case (you can only burn so much powder in a short barrel), a bullpup design to squeeze the most barrel length out of the available design length, or maybe a much wider design for using sabot rounds (in which case it will look very different) and a much more upright, less strained position for the wrist as well as evident recoil compensation of some sort.
