A Drone Summoner, eh? I wonder how viable a Possession tradition would be for that purpose...

I was thinking the same thing.... but didn't they nerf the defences gained by the possessee?
But still an Armor spell on a drone helps keep it going and Fix saves on repair costs. |

Fix is great, but it always felt weird to give to a dedicated mage. With the mixed tech/magic angle, you get nice synergy.
Bonus fun, also get Jury Rig so that even when something is beyond "Fix"ing, you can still get one last hurrah out of it. ~Umi |

I am admittedly a bit curious to why it felt weird to you... Can you elaborate? My guess would be the relation of magic vs. technology. Particularly the earlier editions and their novelizations often led to the impression that while magic could affect technology to some degree that they didn't mesh that well and it took a lot of magical power to do so. The various incarnations of the Fix-spell - despite not necessarily being "super easy" on the mechanical side - could create the impression of defying that (potentially ill-perceived) paradigm and being " too easy" in relative perception: In some cases it was (seemingly) easier to "fix" certain gear with such a spell than healing a moderately cybered human being. Additionally the drain of fix spells - while certainly not negliable - was often lower than some of the more destructive spells despite another SR magic paradigm that seemed to infer that releasing destructive powers is easier than restoring things to their unharmed state. So yes, I can certainly see why that spell could be viewed as "weird" and even somewhat "broken" albeit a closer inspection might reveal that overall it's not true. |
