But then you would have dual-natured shapeshifters with regeneration and severe allergies! Madness!!

HMHVV/HMHV only can affectt humans, metahumans/ their variants. (althought Sasquewatch can be infected..) Shifters are none of these.Tthey are Sapient Animals.. so they are immune of ithat

Although it tastes more like White Wolf's World of Darkness, Underworld had a couple of were-vampires (once through miscegenation and the other time as a human of special ancestry infected / bitten / infused from werewolf and subsequently vampire). Depending on the order you installed patches and the Bloodmoon expansion, Morrowind let you play a were-vampire too.

For human-origin werewolves in SR I'd still stick with:

As for using a lycanthropy disease, well HMHVV would be the most likely candidate as a magical virus, and when the Loup-Garou was published in Paranormal Animals of North America that pretty much covered the vacancy with Strain II. Even if it wasn't totally confirmed as rules stating "These are werewolves" it certainly worked in "fluff" and left it up to your GM to decide on the truth of the matter. (Just like Sprites from PAoE are in fact Windlings from the fourth World.)

Not so much limited to just metas and Sasquatches anymore. From Howling Shadows, page 109, more infectious strains for HMHVV I:

Centaurs : Chirons
Merrow : Nibiinaabe
Naga : Lamia
Sasquatches : Jabberwocky

And still no shifters as likely because they are in deed animals first, regardless of sapience and other [missing] powers.

This. Always keep in mind that shifters are animals capable of assuming human form, not vice versa (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
