grendel: edited my last IC post to reflect the fact I missed a large, beige truck right in front of me that I have keys to.

And Extreme Ways always conjures up The Bourne Identity whenever I hear the song. Not a bad thing.

That's part of the reason why I chose it. Also, you're clear until 1400 on Wednesday, so post as desired.

Sedna- Decision time again. Please be clear in your response, since Alleycat's thoughts can sometimes be a little confusing, especially with the random thoughts thrown in there. :)

QUOTE (Sedna)
Oh, Eyes, since you've been working in and commenting on Shadowland a lot ("half a conversation"!), and I haven't yet been able to play with it IC, I'd better mention this explicitly -- and just fyi this applies to every player, not just you:

Every player is free to pursue any hook they want. You aren't limited to a linear pursuit. You'll be working with your player GM in doing so, and the rest of the world won't ever stand still while/if you're doing so -- but I want to emphasise again the essential freedom of your character's actions. (Of course, as always, with all actions come consequences :vegm: )

Heh, I have been commenting more often there, haven't I? I think it's because most of my PBP RP experience has been in a more freeform environment like that, and it really settles in me a little more easily; I'm used to everyone being halfway between player and GM, and all the insanity that entails. :)

I like the idea of having random shadowtalkers basically open for everyone to use. Some of course would have to be reserved, as they're either PCs or otherwise important to a particular player/GM, but it would be interesting to open up the majority of the more random talkers for general use. In fact, it might be a good idea to have a list of who's available, with short personality notes for easy reference, such as:

Neal the Code Barbarian: Open
-Naive, agressive, inflated view of his own intelligence. Basically your average script kiddie.

Code Warrior: Open
-Slightly older decker. Iinsightful; either is naturally wise or has been running the shadows for some years.

Blondie: Reserved by The_Eyes
-Intelligent, but not at all streetsmart. Fan of the Otaku. Ask The_Eyes before posting due to concurrency restrictions.

Diamond: Open
-From Talia Invierno's Infiltration Challenge thread. Good social skills, modest decking ability. Feels its his job to be a mentor to those that know less about life--and the shadows--than he does.

Solitaire: Open
-From Talia Invierno's Infiltration Challenge thread. Very good decker. Witty; tends to get snappish if under stress.

Sound like a good idea?

QUOTE (Sedna)
("half a conversation"!)

I kinda liked that comment too. :) And it's true, isn't it? I mean, take a look at this OoC thread, specifically bandit, tiredronin and WinterRat's posts. Obviously they know each other from outside the forum, so some little in-jokes are going to slip in here and there, veiled references to past history that just won't exist in this thread, or for that matter anywhere online. Sometimes it's not even intentional; it's just part of human nature. It's something that really brings the Shadowland node to life, so to speak, which is really neat to me.

Of course it's also good that players can actually get (most of) the whole story by reading both the IC and the Shadowland threads, as it helps keep them from feeling disconnected. There are some notable exceptions, many of which are deliberately written in by the players themselves (somr of your stuff is sometimes frustrating but fascinating to read for this very reason Sedna), but for the most part the sum total reads very much like a George RR Martin novel, with all these divergent viewpoints mashed together, and it's a fun thing to be a part of.

The-Eyes: Posting that list of open and reserved Shadowland deckers was an excellent idea. I hope that everyone uses that list as an opening to begin adding some additional conversation to the SL thread, I know that I will ;) Your efforts have also inspired me to open up another opportunity to the LiTS community. As everyone has seen, I post as SheepDog and supply information based on each 'game-day's' police action. All of those events are real in the LiTS world and can affect the lifes of a player.

I would like to offer all PC's the chance to submit (to me) any stories that they would like to appear in a SheepDog report. These would be events that you feel might involve one of your PC's contacts or associates. Events that add color to the world and to your own personal story. These will all be reviewed to make sure that they do not clash with the current story, so don't worry about that, just be creative . . . .

Sedna: Virgil knows what Jonah looks like, but a description of him was never presented in-thread. Do you want to post here? Or at least throw in a description of Jonah and I will pick up from there? Thanks a bunch.

Do you need more of a description, bandit? It's difficult to tell from the photograph, but Virgil would know he's slight of build, on the small side of average, dark brown eyes with the usual slant, coarse black shoulder-length hair usually tied back into a ponytail. Cindy remembers him as wearing a plain off-the-rack business suit, the kind that no one really notices, it's so common. She thinks he can probably handle a gun, but rarely carries one (she's pretty sure he wasn't carrying one that day, and she'd thought of herself [at the time] as good at spotting those things); and he probably has some martial arts training, but so does everyone in those kinds of positions.

I'm going to assume that everyone with a wristphone with a screen has the capability to send pictures. Considering how pervasive phoneshots are currently, I'm thinking that's only reasonable.

I'll try to follow up your idea a bit later, Eyes. It's a good one. Right after the calendar ;) (Weekend downtime occurred right when I was free to try catching up.) It's literally that I never considered any one of those NPCs "mine" -- I'd pulled more than half of them from the existing thread before I was part of it -- but some of the other half do have active plotlines going on around them.

Oh, and I never explicitly mentioned it: I liked your "random friends" posts :)

I see a decision to say/accept or not to say/accept. She won't say those words, because she can't (yet?) accept what they represent. Was there anything else you needed from me here?

You're up Sedna. Feel free to post any actions you undertake or thoughts Alleycat has.

If you decide to leave the bedroom and explore, she will see that apparently she's on the second story of a house, with three bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor along with the master bathroom and the master bedroom. Downstairs there's a kitchen, living room, family room, dining room, den, and foyer. The basement is something along the lines of a rec room, with a workout room down there as well.

Please stop with her either deciding not to leave the bedroom, or if she does leave, stop with her in one of the rooms (your choice) and examining that room, and I'll pick up from there. Does that make sense?

Bandit- I'll be waiting on you for our storyline, just fyi.

More immediately relevant is whether she sees the sun outside the window :)

After that she's systematic: going through each room in order. (Have you any idea how much the intensely visual descriptions are throwing me? :D)

Sedna- She does see the sun. I will describe her reaction. And yes, the visual descriptions are quite deliberate, and intended to convey numerous points/symbol(isms). But yes, the intensely visual descriptions are doing their job well then, if they're throwing you, because after all, Alleycat should be thrown just as much, if not more. :grinbig:

Paul- OK thanks. Was there anything else you wanted to do before heading off to the meet with Max? If not, you can just skip ahead to that point and we'll go from there, otherwise post what you do in the interim. You're free to post until you either arrive at dinner with Max, or do something that requires my intervention beforehand.

Scrapheap & Slipshade - You guys are free to post for now. Interact away.

Sedna- Welcome to Domestic Shadowrun 101! :)

Digital- Do you want me to NPC your character again like last time then?

bandit and WinterRat: speculate at will. There aren't any surprises, desired or otherwise, in your imminent future.

ronin: don't forget that you're an active part of this discussion -- and we'll assume that you've been filled in on the group's objectives, such as Dragon's summarised them to be.

Edit to add a "grr" ;) So which one were you self-betting Alleycat would choose?

Exactly what you did. I self-bet that she would examine the place room by room in a systematic fashion. And lo and behold...behind door number 1 (or in this case, 2)...heh heh heh. Alleycat as a wife and mother. This is truly priceless, from a GM POV. Just so you know I'm having a blast over here. :D

Also, is there a certain time period we should/can/should not/cannot jump past. I.e., can we move ourselves forward to the meet at the appropriate time whenever we desire? Also, can we meet up with Susan beforehand to pick up the stuff we asked for on the way to the meet without any undue surprises?

I thought you might be [/grr]

You didn't set up a time to meet with Susan, right? But she already has the locker drop set up at that mall near Sea-Tac, your stuff, Sybersnake's stuff, and lots of clothes all around. No complications there, so long as you do it reasonably soon from now.

The time in my latest post is the actual game time. I made an error in my previous post that got copied into Sedna's latest post. When you post next Winterrat (which I will wait on) please use the time indicated in my last post.

P.S. Waiting on your response Moirdryd.
