QUOTE (Kagetenshi)
Incidentally, what is the copyright status of the stuff we get? Would we even be able to legally scan stuff and make it publicly available?

QUOTE (Shadowrun FAQ)
Copyright - It is not permissible to post published copyrighted Shadowrun material, writing or artwork, in whole or in part, on your web pages, without the prior written consent of WizKids, LLC.

While some of this stuff is unpublished, it is all copyrighted. Copyright goes into effect when something is created. So as soon as I finish it -- before I even hit the "Add Reply" button to "publish" it -- this post is protected by copyright.

On the other hand, there seems to be more than a little rule-bending going on WRT this sort of thing (the Shadowrun Image Archive comes to mind). That said, we have as much chance of an official response telling us how far we can push it as we do of WizKids giving prior written consent.

The name Shadowrun is copyrighted by WizKids, but it's entirely probable that this stuff isn't. I was more worried about the original authors, as I've no idea what kind of contract they were working under with FASA.

In general, all freelance work, no matter the company, is done under a work-for-hire. Very rarely will work ever remain creator-owned, and currently I know of a grand total of one person who has that. Drafts, proposals and such relating to that work is out of our hands. Correspondence or other paperwork (like the contracts themselves) are what I'm more concerned about.

[resume hijack]

QUOTE ("Tenebris)
QUOTE ("Ancient History")

On a total aside, you might be interested in reading the "Trio for Lute" by R.A. MacAvoy. Note how the Archangel changes as he continues to interact with mortals.

Oh, I liked that trilogy, and the Lens of the World series. Have you read any of MacAvoy's other works? Tea With the Black Dragon comes to mind for some reason ;) But you are right, that would work well as an example of deic concepts manifesting. Not such a total aside after all!

I do very much enjoy R.A. MacAvoy's work, and often suggest others read both Tea With Black Dragon and its sequel Twisting the Rope (which, if you like the latter, means you should totally read Cowboy Fang's Space Bar and Grill by Stephen Brust, if you have not already.)

QUOTE ("Tenebris")
QUOTE ("Ancient History")

Aside from little things like the Blood Wood, which color perceptions a bit, everyone on the channel appears aware of the dark results of Sacrificing, even if they sometimes require it.

Sacrificing is far from the only form of blood magic. Lightbearer magic can include blood magic too, per the oath:

QUOTE

My blood contains the light of my soul.  I, [character name], swear to use blood magic only for Lightbearer magic or to seal the oaths I take, never to enhance my own power or to empower a magical item.(EDC)

I am aware of the Lightbearer's use of blood magic, but I believe you miss the point (at least as I see it): ALL blood magic is, for most intents and purposes, the same. The act of drawing on the life force to power or boost a magical act. The sole differences between "Life Magic" and "Death Magic" are morality, scope, and the relative "safety" and side effects of both.

Taking a blood oath and powering a blood charm and cutting out a victim's heart to reduce drain are all blood magic...they differ only in the aspects described above.

[/edit] This reminds me, I need to fix and revise my Blood Magic page.

I know you guys are having far too much fun with the thread Hijack (And I'd make the suggestion to start upa new post for it, really), but I'd also like to make a few notes...

Any info in those boxes that is not in the official sorucebooks is subject to be changed or ignored. At this point, chances are anything not in an actual Sourcebook is unknown to the writers working for FanPro unless one of us actually submitted the ideas, so even if it was valid at one point, it no longer is.

So don;t get too tied up into thinking anything in there is canon or even a valid explanation. At best, it's an interesting look at how some of the material was originally envisioned.

Hell, if you heard some of the crap that gets thought up during freelancer meetings and barinstorming sessions, you would likely quit SR to go play another game. There's some whacky, messed up crap that gets tossed out :]

And I still want ROb to let me whack Harlequin.

So in other words, if we find anything really good we should forward a copy to all the freelancers just in case? :D

I know for sure if those boxes contain the original notes and e-mail from when Brainscan was being written, they'll see all kinds of crazy stuff that never made it into the book. :D

I tried to snag Brainscan but it apparently wasn't in the lot. Not sure if that means someone had already snagged it or if was just not there…

Next page up

Oddly enough, I think we're more or less on the same page, Ancient History -- approaching it from different directions, and with radically different interpretations, but the same page nevertheless. (I may have misinterpreted what you said in your previous post: it sounded to me as though you were arguing that the Lightbearers had rejected most if not all blood magic.) The relevant point in the Aztlan context, I'd argue, is firstly the amount of mana it pulls together in a relatively short period of time, thus creating a spike and drawing the Horrors that much closer, and secondly what this particular use of blood magic is doing to astral space.

And I think you've got a camera set on my library shelves. That particular book along with Issola (and of course Aztlan ;) ) has been travelling with me for the past few days. In a slightly different context I'm finding the Jhereg series invaluable, just now.

Consider my side of the hijack ended -- even if it did help keep this page active during the dry times earlier :D -- and if anyone wants to discuss what I've been posting further, you can start up a new thread for it.

I'm not sure what they are. I'm assuming that they are Earthdawn novel numbers, beyond that, I dont know. I have a mountain of stuff that I climb only once a week for paid orders.

Now lets say you buy ED4 assuming that it is the manuscript for EarthDawn novel 4 (I would assume that).

When I pull the file for shipment, I take a final look at contents to clear it of any personal or financial documents. At that time, if I discover that it is clearly NOT the novel manuscript you are expecting, I will refund your money.

Being that I am now charging more for manuscripts, I'm willing to assure that all manuscript packages contain at least 1 original manuscript (many have 2 or 3)from the editorial process before it is sent. If not, I will refund 100% of the money and cancel the order with apologies.

I honestly do not know these product lines that well, I'm a (dont throw anything) BattleTech guy. Originally I was going to recycle all this stuff, but realized that would be dumb after the cash I dumped storing and transporting this stuff over the past 2 years.

Because of the chaotic nature of this process, I created an Ebay store. These items are NOT up for auction, but rather plain jane Buy It Now store items. (Not to say some items wont move to auction to promote the store)

That way you always know whats available, the price, the shipping, and dont have to wait for me to respond to your posts on various message boards and private message systems.

Next week I hope to start putting artwork and layout mock-ups up.

Great News!

For those interested in archiving some of this stuff into PDF format, I should be getting my hands on a full duplex high speed scanner tomorrow.

If it WORKS, I should be able to scan documents at 60 pages per minute at 300 sheets per load.

So, if you purchased documents from me, plan on it, or nabbed some stuff from me at Cermak, I should be able to quickly process the stuff for PDF if you get it to me.

Now, I'm not certain it would be legal to 'distribute' said electronic documents after processed, but its a great way to archive it for peer review.

Something must be wrong with me, because I'd buy these if I had the money.

In the cases of the novels, generally for little minutiae details such as the last ambush in Stranger Souls (which reads like Koke actually broke out some dice for it).

Cal would have been ... a gift.

But for now, I think I'll just go slink off into a corner and cry.

Are people allowed to make public displayes of burning similar looking boxes of blank paper and convey the impression that those are original documents until someone pulls a burning box out of the fire and finds blank paper?
