My first game session with a new GM I learned the meaning of paranoia. Every time things slowed down he made use roll a perception check. It really added a level of paranoia missing from my own games. It also allows the GM to call for a roll when you actually need too.

Cheers

Nah, Paranoia is bred when the runners lose their weapons.

Or when they think that the entire job was a set up by someone who recently went to Aztlan for "heavy surgery". I have never seen a group of runners more paniced than that. Oh and the greatest was the one on one mano en mano duel between a troll cyberzombie and the teams heavy weapons brick. it ended with both of them dieing as the two grenades fired by the teams brick cooked off his 400 rounds of ammo, as well as the remaining ammo in the cyberzombie, and dropped a building on top of both of them.

Yeah that made the news.

QUOTE (Nath)
What do you think the runners will have to say ? "I swear, I saw a squad of insect spirits and they were wearing Ares t-shirt" ? Besides, you can never know if you succeded in your Analyze Truth roll, and it only tells you what the target think to be true. There would no difference between an honest witness, a agent prepared by Aztechnology best mages and a wacky conspiracy theorists.

If I've seen enough to be worth killing, then maybe I've seen enough to be incriminating.

Besides, we as players have limited resources in terms of detecting credibility, etc magically, but npcs and people like aina and other members of DF should have other techniques and access to other metamagics, no?

QUOTE (Nath)
But who would they trust ? They have a long working relationship with Ares services, who could give them a lot more believable (yet forged) evidence that the runners tried to work as triple agents.
QUOTE (shanshu Freeman)
Can't they just use magic hoopajoop to tell we're for real?

Don't forget the context. That's first assuming Ares know exacty hat the runners have. They might be just taking precautions. Besides, it's one thing to make and incriminating testimony, it's another to be believed. Sure, if Ares could convince everybody in the world that the runners are liars inventing the whole story, they wouldn't have to kill them. But they wouldn't bet on being able to do so, with Aztechnology or Cross among others who wouldn't trust Ares. On the other hand, if the runners contact the Draco Foundation, Ares is perfectly able to convince people at the Foundation, people with whom they have a long-standing working relationship, that they, Ares, are telling the truth and that the runners are liar and Aztechnology agents.

Only if the GM decide to.

I guess I just have a tough time believing *anybody* can pull the wool over the Draco Foundation. Or at least not, and expect to not be found out and live.

I guess your DF mmv

I'm hijacking the Ares v Aztech plotline for fun with the new group I've got. Do you think it's a little sick and twisted to chuck it at complete newbies though? :vegm:

Race riots. Fairly simple but completely pandemic. Every *pick a race* will be up in arms and everyone else will act with extra prejudice against them. The instigating event can be simple or horrible and complex. It will add a nice twist to almost any operation.
