Nope, no problems. Not even the 'double post' problem because I know better than to repost without checking the thread first.

Hello all - Night Crawler was telling me about the game and I was wondering if I could apply to join?

Sphynx - I know I have a low post count, but thats because I tried to play in a game here long ago, and it went downhill and put me off, so I went and played various other games over at RPOL.
Roleplaying wise, I've done various other things, most of which being White Wolf - So I class myself as a roleplayer, not seomone who was raised on D&D which we all know is a rollplayer.

With all of the posts, changes and the such going around, its hard to keep track of what is and isn't being made for the group. Is it possible for someone to show me an up-to-date summary of what things are in the group?

Book-wise, I have SR3, CC and M&M. As such, I don't have a real copy of the point buy rules in front of me, although I have seen it printed in various places along the Matrix, so I should be fine :)

As for posting probelms - Not long ago I tried to access the site and it kept saying 'Page cannot be displayed', so that could have been the problem Grem.

I take offence to that! As someone who has been playing and GMing role-playing games since the mid-seventies, I 'was raised' on D&D, and a whole lot of other games, and have been witness to a huge number and variety of playing styles. Any given gaming system does not automatically mean the player is or is not a 'rollplayer'. :please:

I feel fortune on this one =P just cause we dont play Vamp the Mascarade and we use dice to help our combat ect doesnt mean we are "rollplayers" hell if its truely a role playing game combat / rolling dice only takes up about 10-15% of ur time anyway most should be role playing =D although some people just like combat thats why wizards so kindly gave all the 5 year olds DND 3rd edition.

Sorry Fortune. Its just that the amount of decent roleplayers to come out of D&D compared to rollplayers is a very slim ratio!
On the flipside, people who are proper roleplayers after D&D are generally quite good ;)

I don't think you mean to be a troll, but you're way off base with those comments. If I had to get right down to it, I'd say Shadowrun ends up drawing more 'rollplayers,' simply due to the lure of the rumbling dice pools.

Anyway, since the rigger angle seems to be pretty well covered, I'm not going to finish the rigging version of John 'Tofu' Smith. Unless you people think we need another combat monster on the team, I'm also leaning towards using the Mouse shaman version, but like I said, I want to make sure people feel all our bases are adequately covered.

Personally, from the sound of Sphynx's posts, it seems the he is implying that the emphasis should be more in the way of magic and/or muscle, whatever, as opposed to decking or rigging.

If you go for the Shaman, you might consider bumping his Charisma up a bit, or even more than a bit.

Sphynx stated the we were to be a 'team', and be reasonably familiar with each other.

i think what he means Fort is he realizes we are to be a team NOW but how did we get to this point? As of yet bud a few have played together but most are just coming in and its up to the GM to tell us WHY we are now forming this SR group =D

Fenix: Not to be offensive, but give me a D&D roleplayer anyday over a WhiteWolf "but I'm an elite 'role' player" type. My philosophy hangs on the idea of enjoy-the-fuck out of the game. You want to have a cyber-mage with 4.99 essence worth of cyber, go for it, have fun.

Chance: Read the very first post in the thread.

Lindt: Nice work on the Fox Shamanic Conjurer, you're in.

Gremish: Read the first post in the thread.

As I said, you guys determine the setting.  1 criminal, 1 soldier, 1 police, etc is why I said to work on Character Background only AFTER you come up with a team background.  First decide what type of team you are, build out that team THEN figure out the history that got you onto that team however many YEARS ago you joined it.  :P

Sphynx

this is all i can see relating to what i posted earlyer So i post this instead =) there is your answer and mine i believe it was the 3rd page =-D

Thanks Fortune, I forgot about his Charisma (he started out as a hermetic, until I decided a Mouse shaman was just too apropos), so I'll have to fix that. His rigger incarnation was amusing. At one point I ended up with .02 Essence, but then decided that was cliche, and raised it to .05.

As for getting together, I've already stated Tofu's entry into the story. He was part of a run against one of Ghostwalker's interests, but was the only survivor due to the rest of the team's screwups. It was decided that he could be a useful addition, so Ghostwalker added a shaman to his assets, and Tofu got to keep his skin.

I'll post stats for all three versions here.

Tofu, Mouse Shaman.
[ Spoiler ]

Tofu, Combat Adept Incarnation
[ Spoiler ]

And although thouroughly redundant, here's my a rough throw together for Tofu, Rigger (I forgot to use the point system so went priority: resources, skills, attributes, race, magic). If we need another rigger, and I use this version, I'll remake him with the point system..
[ Spoiler ]

Character history (with minor variations for the different versions).

This runner is a man who sometimes introduces himself as John Smith, to which most people respond, "You look like a John Smith." His running name, Tofu, was originallymeant as a joke on how bland and unremarkable he seemed, and it stuck. He was a Chicago boy, born and raised, and loved it there, even with the downward turn the city took after the Sears Tower came down. He had a strong, introversive streak, and was always rather quiet, preferring to watch what other people were doing, rather than participating himself.

When the Bugs came, and the wall went up, Tofu's family was trapped on the inside. In a city where motion could bring disaster, he became very good at sitting very still, and very quiet. It was a trait that saved him when his family attempted a run for sanctuary, and were spotted by a nest of wasps. He sat still and silent while the wasps swarmed around him, killing his parents, sister, and brothers. He cremated them himself, and then spent the next year learning how to run the shadows in the CZ. Obviously, he was a quick learner. He survived.

When the wall came down, he went to Detroit, taking up rescidense in one of the refugee neighborhood with some distant relatives. The urn holding his family's ashes was the only thing that he took with him. He lived, and ran in Detroit, until a series of unfortunate runs put his face on a couple of wanted lists. He relocated to Denver, hoping to lose himself in the confusion of the divided city.

After a little while there, he'd made enough of a reputation for himself that he was hired as an 'outside consultant' by a group of runners who didn't know that they were about to hit one of Ghostwalker's interests. The run went sour on several levels (Tofu got a bad feeling when he saw the sammie loading ex-ex into an Alpha, despite that this was supposted to be a 'hush hush run').

When the shooting stopped, and Ghostwalker's assests started sorting out the carnage, the first couple walked right by him, he sat so quiet and still (that also kept him from getting shot). Then he slowly raised his hands, and said, "Excuse me. I give up."

What followed were not the best few weeks of his life.

Well, what I am seeing is a (potential) team that can do a heck of a good job sneaking around gathering information and recording people without their knowledge. Lots of B&E, surveillance (both magical and mundane), some physical protection, and some technological support. A good hook to make us (assuming I get in) all a team would be that we were all hired at one point or another as individuals by Ghostwalker's agents to do a data steal/info grab/surveil/etc. and the big lizard saw the merit in teaming us up so we could play of each others' strengths and offset each others' weaknesses.

As to how long it has been, My concept is/was that Ears is relatively new to the area and is/was doing freelance work for Ghostwalker's agents. Perhaps he has been in Denver longer that I originally intended and is working with the team now. I could see Ears as being drawn to the Mouse shaman as a friend since our natures are to be quiet and observe, and act only when fully prepared (except when his poor impulse control gets the best of him, he does struggle with it). Also, we are both from the northern Midwest (Chicago IIRC, and Minneapolis). I don't think there is any cannon about the military bases in Minnesota, but we do have some, so the military could tie in as well.

Well, those are my thoughts. Any advice Sphynx, or are you just not that compelled?
