REQUIREMENTS
- This is the most important part. Please do not offer a character unless you can and will post at LEAST 5 days a week. I want a real game going on here, not something that I get to reply to once a week after I've lost both the interest and thoughts of where the story was going. If you're not creative enough to come up with an interesting "I do nothing this turn" kinda post, you should not turn in a character. Of course, I'd be happier if you could come up with "I do something interesting" kinda post every turn. If you can meet that one requirement, the others are things we can work on. By the end of a few months, I should be able to see character advancement from Karma, character growth in numbers as well as roleplaying. Nearly an impossibility when the game drops to one GM post a week.

Previously I've always tried to work with newer players who weren't in a game. My mistake, 90% of those lose interest in the board in general after a few weeks. Therefore, consider your chances better if I see you're an old-schooler here with a high number of "total posts". Consider them guaranteed if you have more "total posts" than I do.

If you're a new member, be convincing to me that you will stick with the game, and post regularly. That's actually more important to me at this stage than a character background.

If you meet that one simple requirement and are interested in joining a medium to high level game, post HERE (not mail or PM) the kinda character you'd be interested in. I don't need a biography or anything, just an interest so I can determine the setting/style of game I should run. Feel free to include in your post the kinda game you'd be interested in. If we have a good game with regular posting at around 5 times a week, I guarantee that within a year, you'll have earned enough karma to feel pretty bad-ass. I'm talking 50+ karma within a year if the game STAYS active. (1 karma per week doesn't seem horribly unbalanced if that week has alot of stuff happening in it. Impossible if every week is but 1 round of action)

Anyhows, I plan to run a high-speed game, multiple Turns per post even in combat. This means it's HARD to spend Karma Pool since there will be more than one roll per posting. Players interested should be aware of that so they can tell me ahead of time when they'd be willing to spend karma and for what.

Let me know if there's interest, and we'll have character development following a sincere show of such interest.

Sphynx

[Edit]Game will not start until AFTER the holidays (2nd week of January most likely), so don't feel you have to be a daily poster until after you get back from your family's. wink.gif[/Edit]
Fortune
I'm interested, but do you think I qualify? biggrin.gif

I'd like to play an awakened character of some description ... either a Shaman or an Adept, or even a combination of the two. As for the type of game, I'm easy.
Chance359
I'm not sure if I'd qualify, but I'd be interested in playing. Any space available for an ork merc? ork.gif
Tarantula
I'd like to play too. I doubt I "qualify" but I have close to no life beyond working, and I'd really like to start playing here. Got room for a B&E cyber guy? I'd also be willing to play a rigger.
HeySparky
I'm interested. I'm in two games here. I try to make in-depth posts even for simple actions. I'm game to play anything at all, theme or character-wise, but try to make PCs that 1) fit into the GM's world 2) that don't tax my imperfect knowledge of the rules... that's my biggest weakness as a player. But I really like PbP for the roleplaying/writing opportunity that it provides. Something I don't get out of tabletop play.

I can post five times a week. I can try to post more. I'm a little worried about the speed of the combat you've described because I'm fuzzy on the rules, though I learning in McQuillan's excellent Chasing the Prize.

But I'm definitely interested. I've been wanting to play a decker lately because I've been feeling the pain of not having one in the team. But I'd play anything really.
Nikoli
I'm interested,
I'm open to playing what the team needs, Sammie, Rigger, Decker, etc.
Morgannah
Also very interested. smile.gif I'm on several times a day from Sunday through Friday (Saturday is for tabletop gaming) and I'm itching to get in on another run.

I'd like to see a game with a lot of grit, if at all possible. Something dark and just plain 'mean.'
Backgammon
I've never played on DSF, but I assure you I'm nigh obsesive compulsive about checking the boards and can post several times a day. 5 times a week? That's slow for me. More like 5 times a day.

As for character, I've been itching to play a Face, with some sort of secondary support role. I don't have SOTA64 though, so no Social Adept. I'd like to play a game about high stakes fixer/undergroud player wars, or "typical" shadowrunner stuff, maybe magical campaing. Not merc or military.

Indeed, I hear that. Actually, the boards is one of my few ways of wasting time during the day, so I tend to check them far more frequently than people are posting on them.
HMHVV Hunter
I'm certainly interested. I have a bunch of character ideas:

-A Triad bodyguard/wujen mage that knows Kung Fu (inspired by Kit Yun from "Jet Li: Rise to Honor," minus the undercover cop part)

-An Oni neighborhood protector/shaman that follows the idol of Dragonslayer in the form of Hachiman (he guards a run-down apartment building in Redmond and hands out "care packages" consisting of Colt Manhunters and armor clothing so that those under his protection can help defend themselves)

-A "Boondock Saint" sort of character (a Giant who's sick and tired of the Night Hunters attacking metahumans and is armed to the teeth to do something about it)

-A heavily cyber- and bioware equipped super-soldier that has escaped to the shadows (tentatively named "Roga Danar" after a similar character in an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" that I got the idea from)

-A psionicist that used to be a UCAS soldier until he went AWOL and into the shadows after witnessing an Azzie blood-magic ritual during an operation; has a severe phobia of blood spirits as a result of this encounter.

I'm most interested in playing any of the magical types; would any of these be appropriate?
Toptomcat
I'd be interested in playing a bioware-centric stealth samurai/face with a Saeder-Krupp vendetta and a passion for bebop.
gobogen
I'd really like to play as well. I check the forums often but in the two games I play, I have to wait for others' reply more than I am willing to post. I can easilly post once a day. There will be a few days on which I won't post, though I'll always show up at the very least least 5 times a week, most often 2-3 times a day.

Edit: It's been a long while since I've played a character with cyber; I would be up for some kind of street sammy.
Sphynx
Ok, seems like there's enough interest to consider taking this foward. Gonna keep character creation quite simple. 2064 is the year so any book up to qnd including SOTA:2064 is acceptable. 128 BP

Basic rules apply, I go by Canon on Bioware (meaning that you can have it if the availability allows it.)

Not allowed stuff:
No Martial Arts, brawling will have to be enough.

If you decide on a cyber limb, talk to me about House Rules.

Do NOT purchase LifeStyles or DocWagons. Those will be freebies. wink.gif

Lastly, I never ever do pure-matrix stuff (unless I'm running a pure decker game) so make sure you can do alot more than deck. Personally, I'd even recommend nobody start with a cyberdeck so you don't feel screwed from the beginning of the game.

When you decide on a character, either post it here, or post it on a web page with a link to here. I want to have everyone help everyone to build a team with a theme. Everyone will have to not only KNOW everyone else pre-game, but be FRIENDS with them and know all their little quirks and nuiances.

Setting: Denver. That's all I'm wanting to volunteer. You guys should work out the rest. You can choose to be all LoneStar, or all Criminals as far as I care, but be a TEAM. Once you have agreed on a way of being a team, THEN and only then should we really start working on backgrounds, and I will do my best to help flesh out all backgrounds with everyone. Try to use the [Edit] button as much as possible as we work on character sheets here (if you post your sheet here instead of a link to it) to save on the spam on the thread.

Sphynx
Backgammon
Well, I feel like we should probably determine background before getting to characters... So Denver, huh. To throw some ideas around: we could be the shadowrun crew of a particular fixer. This fixer likes to keep his people close, so he keeps a team of runners as retainers and we do all sorts of things. Hmm, since Sphynx wants high-power, we could be runners working for Ghostie. Working on spying on his rivals as well as stealing artefacts for the dragon. What else...? Deep cover operatives working FOR Aztlan (gasp!) to return the Azzies to power within the city.
Fortune
Working for Big, Pale and Scary works for me.
Chance359
"Better to be at the Devil's hand than in his path."
Nikoli
I like Denver.
How about a Cross Applied Technologies Seraphim Team?
HMHVV Hunter
Working for an anti-Azzie faction works for me. Might make things interesting if my character's severe phobia of blood spirits kicks in smile.gif

I've decided on that psychic soldier/former UCAS trooper. I'll post his stats later.

Appearence:
His face pleasing but somehow generic, James' build is about average- his movements, bulk and manner give little clue to the incredible strength or agile mind that lies behind the facade.

Personality:
Careful, subtle, intelligent and meticulous, James is typically of the 'if a gun is fired, the run is hosed' school. However, he knows that he can equal all but the most heavily-cybered individuals in combat while remaining orders of magnitude subtler, and he's not afraid to utilize that ability.

History:
Formerly just a talented Seattle street punk with a talent for killing people quietly, James' life changed forever when he pulled off an unbelievable scam involving the early days of the Draco Foundation, a botched spell formula which corrupted astral signatures, and a bum in a toxic shaman suit. He had some cosmetic and genetic mods done along with the implantation of a truly incredible amount of bioware and promptly fled to Denver to become a professional shadowrunner and ensure it was too late when the Foundation twigged.
Since then, he's acquired a formidable reputation as a shadowrunner who can keep things out of the headlines even when things go seriously wrong, and generally as the man to go to if you need someone strong and fast as a street samurai who won't set off every metal detector and, eventually, police radio within a mile.
For whatever reason, he seems especially eager to take hits on Saeder-Krupp- close companions have gathered that it has something to do with a girl of his who was killed in a chemical spill, but he doesn't talk too much about it. They encounter a similar wall when he's asked where he learned to play the sax or what he did before he was in his teens, but it seems to have to do with the same thing.

Bioware effects:
+4 to the Power of all diseases, drugs, or toxins to resist: -1 die on Resistance tests
+4 to all healing TNs: -1 die on Healing tests
-2 to Physical Overflow

Mad setting combo skillz: Agents for Ghostwalker working to undermine his enemies. Currently we're undercover as anti-Azzie agents to inflitrate other Anti-Azzie groups. We'd be working to block and spy Aztlan agents plotting to return Aztlan to Denver, and at the same time we also undermine CAS and everyone else who think we are their allies. Ghostie likes all the factions to be equally powerful and constantly infighting so that they don't pay attention to his moves. How's that?

I LIKE it, even if my head is still spinning. grinbig.gif

I'm tossing around a few ideas, character-wise, though my favourite by far is a longrifle covert-type (I can't help but be curious to see what everyone else comes up with before I set anything in stone).
Nightcrawler472
If there's still space I wouldn't mind a campaign...my life has been somewhat game free recently frown.gif

Character wise I fancy a pistol-toting wiseass...ok in a brawl and he'll have a couple of pistols as his weapons (probably a single heavy with a couple of other pistols as backup), and some cyberware...

I've only got the ShadowRun rulebook available at the moment, that's not a problem is it?

So, is there still any space?

Edit:

I saw Blade: Trinity on Sunday, and so my character is kinda based on Hannibal King (just without the questionable beard).
HeySparky
I'd like to toss my hat in for a decker(sans deck - how I like to start them anyway)/B&E guru. Stealth, nifty gadgets, a good relationship with the group's rigger *Tarantula* (so we can cooperate with drones). Maybe the rigger and I can band together in chargen to share the brunt of the various techie/B&R skills.

Tarantula?

Or, team medic - mundane or magical, either way. Probably magical with good mundane backup.

We get to use 128 bp? Cool! *edits*
Backgammon
I have no free evenings to put the time required to make a char, but in general (for those who want to get a picture of teamates), I'll probably be:

Male Elf (or human if I'm low on points), stick to legal cyberware or quasi-legal with permit and bioware. Jacked-up social skills including inteerogation, lots of contacts, many level 2. Not much of a fighter, but a few basic skills to back up as electrician, weak rigger with cheap recon drones and Matrix data searching abilities.

The ultimate legwork guy smile.gif
Fortune
*With a mere wave of his arm, the scholarly elf creates an illusion of a post, accurately mimicking the surrounding posts. Gypsy smiles slightly as the crowd passes by, not able to differentiate between the real and his creation.*

I was going to ask everyone about a Troll Merc who's a mute. He either signs or used a device similar to a speak and spell (which gets broken lots out of frustration).

Sounds good to me. smile.gif

Looking at my notes, (and yes, I take notes on just about everything) it looks like there are a TON of people wanting to get in on this run (and a good mix of character types so far). Just to sate my curiosity, Sphynx, how will you be choosing who's joining and who isn't?
Fortune
QUOTE (Chance359)
I was going to ask everyone about a Troll Merc who's a mute. He either signs or used a device similar to a speak and spell (which gets broken lots out of frustration).

Why wouldn't he use a transducer linked to some kind of speaker? biggrin.gif
Sphynx
I'm not sure Morgannah, despite huge levels of interest, I usually get about 1 character sheet for every 3 people who seem interested. I hope I don't have to cut people out, and will do my best to not do that (even if it requires multiple threads with the team splitting up at times.)
Fortune
Well, you did lay out some pretty specific guidelines. Are you going to stick to those, or has the response changed your mind?

Oh, and while I'm posting ... do you really consider 128 BP to be a 'high-powered game'? biggrin.gif
Sphynx
Medium to High level game, yeah, 128 BP is enough to do that. More importantly though, regular Karma is enough to do that (not that I said the characters whould be high-powered nyahnyah.gif).

As for the requirement, if people don't meet the requirements, their characters will die from reverse Hand of God tactics. This game is only for the fast-gamers, people who can and WILL post at least 5 days out of the week (though, of course, circumstances and for-warning of events will be considered. wink.gif).

Sphynx
Chance359
Sphynx, since Mute isn't listed as a cannon flaw, how many points would you award?
Sphynx
I'll have to get back to you on that one (I'm not home so much with the Holidays and all, will get back to you when I get home). I will say this though, if you can use a transducer/etc to overcome the Mute problems, just like Blindness, you would get no points. Only if you completely lack the ability to communicate in any vocal manner would I give Flaw points.

Sphynx
Nikoli
When you say 128 bp, high powered, is that the MJLBB high powered?
Nightcrawler472
Since I've lost my copy of the Shadowrun Companion I'll be using the priority system...which this time isn't a huge issue since I'm just playing a gunbunny...I'm currently working on the background (I tend to do his background first then his character sheet, dunno why) so I should have a character up by Friday (can't do much tomorrow as I *really* have to go to college before the X-mas break)

Sphynx
Last post about the 'power' of the game.

Medium to High was my quote, not High by itself.

123 = Medium.
128 = > Medium
HighPowered being, as Fortune can tell you, I don't punish people for minmaxxing. You can be highpowered at 100 BP if you're a good minmaxxer.

Medium to High Powered is the game level. If 128 doesn't meet that requirement for you, and it's that important, skip the game. wink.gif

Before I agonize for the next two days tossing somethign together, what setting (it matters to me)
what 'flavor' are we corp, cop or criminal (in the traditional sense)
Toptomcat
I'm criminal.
HMHVV Hunter
I'm former UCAS soldier turned shadowrunner.
Nikoli
i meant team purpose.
HMHVV Hunter
Actually, I'm debating whether or not I want to tinker with my character's concept (and maybe his stats) a bit.

When did you want to start this and what is the atmosphere/opposition/theme going to be? Depending on that, I may change his concept and stats around a bit; I'd also like to know how long I have to change my mind.
Sphynx
As I said, you guys determine the setting. 1 criminal, 1 soldier, 1 police, etc is why I said to work on Character Background only AFTER you come up with a team background. First decide what type of team you are, build out that team THEN figure out the history that got you onto that team however many YEARS ago you joined it. nyahnyah.gif

Sphynx
Backgammon
I think you really need to frame up the setting more, Sphynx. You're the GM, we can't decide the campaign for you! You must have some ideas of what you want and don't want to do. It'll take us forever to agree on a concept if you don't slice on what it is exactly we're doing.
Fortune
Well then, I'm casting my vote for working for Ghostwalker.
Lindt
Sounds entertaining. Seems like there is a lack of spell-foo. Im thinking. burning out hermetic? Ill get back with a better idea tommorow.
