I'm playing an female elf shaman right now over in Welcome to the Shadows, in a carribean pirate game. She's not a lesbian (although not that I guess you could really tell, since the topic of sexual preference has never come up, and since she doesn't go around draping herself over everthing male, technically there's been no proof to the otherwise), wears a sensible one piece bathing sit, and a permanent part of her wardrobe is a labcoat, and no, she _never_ wears _just_ the lab coat (she does have an ungodly charisma, but like I said, shes's a shaman).
Then again, I spent a lot of time as a fanfiction editor in my youth, so I tend to be highly sensitive to ridiculous stereotypes, and adept at sidestepping them. |

My elf is straight, very much so actually (she's been raised in a very conservative household, and is an, albeit not too pious, catholic). The other female characters played by guys (those I met, at least) are straight too, though with some, it's technically unproven.
Actually, the only lesbian character I ever met was, well, played by a lesbian. Go figure. |

Quite the opposite, really - Usually when I see a game with a large elf population, as it's oft to happen, experience tells me that these are probably a port from our D&D Hackn'slash generation. More than likely we'll have a lot of "Original" concepts, and I should expect that Corporate Intrigue, Organ Legging RipperDocs, and the bitter edge of a firsthand taste of concrete will be replaced with lots of rolling. Though, that last bit is hit or miss. I don't know too many D&D players that can handle rolling more than a couple of dice at a time. *Duck* No, really. Mostly kidding. Everyone that steps into the game brings a new facet, and new angle, and I'm glad that all of your support our industry, regardless of where you stand in your current RPG walk of life. And while I rip on elves from time to time, I understand that there is a time and a place for them. I've even been -impressed- by the occaisional, as much as my fellow gamers would be aghast to hear. Much of it boils down to style. -RM *Third edit to finally get the post straight. Hard typing one handed with all this elf p120n lying around. |

Elves faced a lot more racism in 1st edition. It's kinda died off since then. I mean you know what they used to say...
"Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, never deal with a dragon, never trust an elf, and never, ever, no matter how drunk, stoned, or just plain stupid you are trust an Otter shaman who says, "Hey, I got an idea! It worked in the cartoon, it should work in real life, too, right?" (Credit goes to Dog Man). I have one elf character. Female, used to be a meat puppet. Kinda messed in the head when it comes to intimacy in general, so I wouldn't say she's necessarily bi. She kinda hates everyone equally. I've also had one elf poser. 5'4", 290lbs, pimply faced, rotund, paid $32k for beta vampire teeth because he was almost out of essence but HAD to have those teeth. Wears a black trenchcoat and wields a katana he has no skill in. Decker by trade. Lotsa fun. |

That's really funny to me when I read it, because back when I was in 4th grade I was a total D&D elf nutrider. Basically, I was into how they were better than humans in every possible way. As I got older I realized that that type of ridiculous unbalanced sense of superiority was lame, and I usually ended up playing humans. However, I think that dwarves are cool because of how they are sterotypically short, violent, and hate sunlight. I mean, that's just hilarious. Myself, I often make martial arts adept characters, but that might just be because I spend all my time hanging out at bullshido.net. Often times my physads are carictatures of fraudulent martial artists, such as Ashida Kim. (www.ashidakim.com) |

Never been an elf nutrider, but I can't say I haven't seen more than my fair share. It's a fairly grueling and messy process, let me assure you. None the less, I applaud you dwarven efforts. You can never have too many dwarves; Willow, The Wizard of Oz, and Willy Wonka taught me that. ...Uh... ...Those -were- dwarves, right? R^(M*2) |

Referenced to the real life actors -playing- the characters in question. Sometimes you've got to remind yourself that you're in -real life- sometimes, eh?
I was going to make a reference to being a material girl, and living in a material world. But. You know. That would have been tackier than making out with two other female popstars for a publicity boost. Erm. Wait. Did I just think that? Or am I typing outloud... Anyway, enough already! Anyone got some cool Elf Bashing scene's they RP'd out? Shit, what's a guy got to do to get a little daisysmashing inspiration around here. Sidenote: Floofy. Goofy. Fluffy. Fantastically Lame Or Often FloofY. -RM |

Oh hell no, over my dead body, over your dead body. In Willow they were Halflings. In Willy Wonka and Wiz 'o' Oz they were Fey kin, Brownies and such. Time Bandits, yeah, those were probably Dwarves. |

None of this really hits any of the points I was making. I wasn't saying that elves don't get racism, I was saying that canon makes them actually better than the other metatypes. People on these threads always tend to leap straight to "blame your GM and players," and never consider that maybe canon IS to blame, because other (playable) races don't get long lifespans, don't get to be immortal uber-magicians, and don't get their own powerful nations (I don't put the Ork Underground in the same league as the Tirs). My beef is that way more attention seems to get focused on elves than on the other metatypes. There aren't any location sourcebooks about Ork, Troll, or Dwarf nations, but the elves get two. I haven't really had that big a problem with elves in my games (which pains me to say, because I DO have an irrational hatred of elves dating back to my D&D days, like someone described above); I'd just like to see the focus of the game be more equally applied and have canon stop telling us that elves ARE superior, and racism against them should stem from that. I was happy when 3rd edition made elves take a higher priority assignment than dwarves and trolls, but I think the better solution would have been to give them drawbacks to balance out all the advantages they get (and here I don't count racism as a drawback, because it applies to all the metahumans, and is probably a lot MORE of a drawback to the non-elf metatypes). |

Nono, that one was a Prussian. A *small* Prussian, but a human prussian nonetheless. On a slightly related note, there are human tribes (Kimil in Papua New Guinea) who are dwarf-sized (as in, 1.30 to 1.40 meters) naturally. also, there once was Homo foresiensis, whcih was gnome-sized. And the Gigantopithecus could well have been troll-sized and -shaped ... hehe.
Oh, women can be really fucked up too ... and meat puppets aren't nescessarly only used for sex, but also for all kinds of revenge and domination/humiliation fantasies ... poor little girl, remind my character to send her character a box of chocolates or something. |

No kidding. Anyway, I may as well add my own two cents since otherwise my presence is completely OT. I think this topic is ridiculous. It serves no purpose other than fueling a mind-numbingly boring and juvenile contest of people yelling, "elves sucks!," "Do not!" for the last 70-odd posts. Elves are a race. They can be played however you like, or not at all. It's you game, and frankly I don't care what your person opinion of elves are because it doesn't do me any good to know that some dude out on the Internet has a mad hate-on for them. Good for you. |

*sigh* You guys don't know your hobbits. In Willow they were Nelwyns. In Wizard of Oz they were munchkins and in Willy Wonka they were oompla-loompas. Of course, I suppose it feeds back into the simply fact that no great fantasy story is complete without someone who's 3 feet tall and has hairy feet. |
