QUOTE (shadow_scholar)
while it may be unimaginative, I'd say cow or chicken.

How would you feel with people gorging themselves everyday on your totem?

Yeah, like most 6th worlders can afford real beef or chicken. Now, if your totem was Soy, you might have a problem...

Also, chickens and chicken-like animals have very, very few redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Only the domesticated ones. Wild Turkeys are actually fairly smart as game birds go.

Termite would be a pretty bad totem, but would be under insect. Dung beetle? Leech? Tick? Most any parasitical critter would be pretty bad I'd think. Flea?

What about the cornholing redneck tree from Something Positive? That would suck to have for a totem...Just imagine passing the Watcher to get into the astral plane.

Redneck Tree

Enjoy! To see them in action go back a couple of days.

The Redneck tree reappears a couple years later during a Shadowrun LARP - go figure. :)

I thnk the language is actually Portuguese. Other than that, I can't help you, but you could try using Babelfish.

I think DarkShade is correct.

I'm not certain, but the critter in that photo appears to be a giant sea roach (Bathynomus giganticus).

It's related to the common sea roach or wharf roach (Ligia exotica). However, where the common sea roach attains a maximum length of about 3 centimeters (just over 1 inch), its larger cousin can reach lengths of up to 28 centimeters (11 inches).

You can find examples of both critters at the following link:

It is indeed Portuguese.

QUOTE (Some guy on another board I posted this on)
heres the translation the best i can do of that website:

"The strange animal was found and killed by an employee of the Saae (Company?), that had to enter a mouth of wolf (sewer?) for maintenance, and he had his leg bitten by the animal.

The animal is approximatly 60cm and weights 5 kilos and was directed for study to the zoo
quinzinho of barros(a city?). The biologist that recieved the animal in the zoo was suprized
and said with certainty that it is an unknown species, or a genetic mutation of another
animal.

The bitten employee took 3 points (no clue here?) and he went back to work.
CLARIFICATION: Our group got in contact with the Vet 'Mrs. Ciça' of the zoo in Sorocaba,
and verified the information that nothing else has been found or captured that is similar
to the photo published here."

interesting. it looks like a lobster and a cockroach had babies.

QUOTE
One particular group, the cymothoid isopods, can live inside the mouth of a fish.  Scientists believe that these isopods hook their legs into the base of the fish’s tongue, causing it to wither and eventually fall off. This leaves room for the isopod to live. (Scientists believe this does not affect the fish’s lifespan!) Some species live off the blood of the host fish, while others feed off the mucus within the fish’s mouth. The mouth parts and legs of all these isopods are well adapted for clinging to the host.

Ewww... Sounds like a ocean-bound version of the bug totem.

Still, it would be a pretty sucky totem to follow: living in a fish mouth and eating mucus all day.

I remember reading somewhere that the reason insects don't come in that size anymore on land is a lower oxygen content in the air. Something to do with the design of their lungs. Apparently when there were dinos around you'd get monster bugs too.
