Well...no. It made me go off on a lengthy tirade in my blog, which I erased before posting because it wouldn't do any damn good. But it did not, in fact, make me smile.

Well as one of the perpetrators of the joke...it was mostly on Grimtooth. Quite honestly I don't know what to think of SR4. Some stuff I hear sounds rather cheesy and other sounds pretty good.

Seems to me everyone is taking things a tad to seriously (why we did that for Grimtooth). FanPro has the right to try to make some actual money from the product. And quite honestly they are not making from the license what they will by releasing a new version...and it's in their best interest not to drive off the playerbase. Have some faith :)

Seems we have a population of overwhelming pessimists and serious optimists who won't see eye to eye on it anyway though :)

Another member of my group suggested that Wizkids pull a "WoTC" and head straight to SR4.5 by combining SR1, SR2, SR3, and SR4 in to one big-assed all you can eat special for the unheard of low low price of 79.95.

We're just nervous. SR is like a favorite teddy bear. Someone messing with it is bad.

Oh I understand. It took me a while but I've come to love the SR setting. I'm particularly nervous of the posts that seem to allude that it is going to be going toward a less magical setting. The reason I don't play cyberpunk anymore is because Cyberpunk in and of itself bores the heck out of me. But the setting and the history of Shadowrun make it far more entertaining.

An all out effort to erase IE's or GD's would rub me the wrong way. Rarely use them but they are part and parcel of the setting in my mind.

There is as much feedback that comes in from people saying Shadowrun is becoming too magical as there is from people saying they fear the downplay of magical elements. Really, the game is about the balance, and that balance will be maintained in SR4.

This pretty much sum everything up in one neat little package

"He who can balance a tack hammer on his head can head off his opponent with a balanced attack!"

There now feel better. :P

I don't honestly see that. I think magic has mostly been scaled back over the life of SR3...and the most vocal people seem to be those who complain about magic in SR.

I guess I just think scrapping huge portions of the history like they never happened or coming up with excuses why they happened seems lame to me.

Edit: I should say that I have no idea if this is the plan or not. Just I see this suggestion regularly :P I have no idea what the plans are.

Don't get me wrong.

I absolutely LOVE SR top to bottom beginning to end.

SR was the greatest thing since sliced bread
SR2 was a breath of fresh air.
SR3 was little more than a stagnant breeze
SR4 remains to be seen.

Will I buy it?

The collector in me says i have to.

Allow me to make a suggestion: Don't pay attention to anything anyone says on DSF, and just read ShadowrunRPG.com and other official material. :)

Adam makes a good point.

But for those of us with the stubborn streak who like to gripe and complain, and for those who are wondering where the cheese went, just keep posting. :spin:

That's what I'm saying: post away, but don't mistake anything you read here for official or the final word, especially when it's not coming from a FanPro employee.

So does this mean the Kingdome will still be standing in in the Seattle of 2070? Or would removing it be considered an un-retroactive (protractive?) change? :wobble:

Whoa! You go to sleep for 8 hours and....just wow!

Well, the reason I'm depressed is really a financial one. I love SR to bits (probably in the same way a drug addict loves his next fix to bits).

Apart from the nervousness it's causing me from taking away a system I took a lot of effort to master, I'm going back to school this year, and I'll be moving halfway across the world to go back to school. So, yeah, spare cash is going to be hard to come across. :S

I digress.

So what's this year's April Fool's Joke gonna be?

It. is. not. a. joke.

Period. No joke to be found!

Loose Alliances, Shadows of Asia, Shadows of Latin America, these books will not be invalidated by SR4 because they are pretty much entirely source and setting material. In fact, those books will likely contain seeds that will become more detailed in SR4.

Actually they will. The time line is advancing 5 years flat. That means all the information in all the books published before SR4 will just be history. No more important to the setting and the story than 'And then it came to pass'....

You seem to have a curious definition of "important to the setting and story", at least from where I'm sitting.

Just let Shadow continue to wallow in his depression and righteous indignation. Nothing anyone says -- before or likely after SR4's release -- is going to change his mind; if he wants to be miserable, let him.

Let's see if this gets through once and for all. There will be changes and developments to the setting, there's no denying that - in fact most will be a rooted in material from LA, SoA, SoLA and of course System Failure, although some will inevitably be surprises (after all what's a new edition without surprises).

However, hard as it may be to believe 90% of the material in Loose Alliances and the latest Shadows of will remain valid, consistent and useful. In fact IMHO people who don't pick them up now, are going to come back later and pick them up.
