'Ronin: Roll me a D6 (this is regarding our PM's). One die only, please :)

Cedric (this is my reading, and others please feel free to comment on it):

QUOTE
Does 'deactivation' of the sustaining foci cause disruption?

Yes. You've got to activate the focus before use, so deactivating it would make it not useful (I.E, the spell being sustained is disrupted).

QUOTE
Can a magician use the Force 3 sustaining foci to sustain a physical barrier and then decided to dump the physical barrier and immediately cast and use the foci to sustain a detect enemies spell? Are their any tests involved or anything?

No. All Spell foci (Sustaining Foci fall under this catagory) can only be used on the same class of spell (Detection, Manipulation, ect). Physical Barrier and Detect Enemies are in seperate catagories (Manipultion and Detection, respectively). You'd need two seperate Sustaining Foci for this particular setup to work.

Now, if the spells were in the same catagory? Sure; take the approporate actions (Free to deactivate, Simple to re-activate, and Complex to cast). Drain shouldn't be too much of a problem with a Force 3 for most magicians.

Problem I see with Sustaining foci are that, for them to really be useful, you've got to have several (they don't add dice to the casting pool, just take away the -2 penalty for sustaining, plus the only good for specifc spell groups thing). Christmas Tree-ing is a problem if there's anyone around looking for it, and if you're GM is really nasty and has Street Magic, say hello to Focus Addiction tests :vegm:

QUOTE
Does a deactivated sustaining foci become blank, or upon activation does it immediately 'restore' the spell it was previously sustaining, because that would mean the character whose focus is snatched away from his person would have to recast the spell to get the benefit of the sustaining focus again.

It becomes blank in the sense that you have to recast the spell that you want to sustain; it's still got the astral signature of whoever's bonded it. Also, as per page 191 SR4, if you deactivate or drop it, you've got to reactivate it and recast.

BC, just in case you missed it i'm waiting for either a reply from Det. Watts of Lone Stars OC unit or the rest of the team to decide what we're going to do from here. I got the same answer from most of the boards I posted that question too.

I've got a Comet, we'll stop by and pick it up or drop Daedalus off to get it from my apartment in Seattle.

BC is chasing shadows right now so I'll post that IC is just a sec.

Hoi chummers. I know I haven't exactly been posting a lot recently and I apologize for this, but my life has been insane of late.

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm off on vacation all of next week and won't have Net access, so I will be unable to post.

Hopefully, after this vacation I can reboot my system and get my life in order enough to participate regularly again.

Threw up an IC post to justify full clips and weapons inspection. This thread is quickly bogging down so if no one else posts on it I'll post all of us leaving per my IC plan.

Cedric - This was posted on July 25 by me for Dragon:

QUOTE
He pauses to organize his thoughts, then continues, "The flower shop is probably the place we're most likely to run into trouble. Erebus, Virgil, and myself will go check it out and see if we can learn anything about who orchastrated that setup. We know where Daedalus's van is located already thanks to Vinnie, so he and Tenmou can go check the place out at least. That shouldn't be too dangerous, and it'll give Tenmou more time to recover. Like I said if you two can find out anything about Vinnie's cargo while you're there, that'd be nice too."

To which Erebus responded:

QUOTE
Erebus was nodding even before Dragon finished talking.

"That sounds like a plan to me. If we need to I can lay my hands on another car so we wouldn't be split between vehicles. I've access to the bike I left at my apartment but I'm guessing Lone Star will be tearing the place apart right about now because of the gentle-ninja I left on the street, so I think staying away from there would be a good idea right now."

He looked around, to see if anyone had any questions concerning the plan.

Your most recent post said:

QUOTE
"How bout me, Dragon, and Daedalus head off for the flower shop. Tenmou can come with us to Seattle to pick up my car so we have another vehicle available and Virgil will have my bike to use in case of an emergency here while we're gone. Once Tenmou has the car he can bring it back here and he and Virgil can get some rest, while we run down the lead on the flower shop."

Is Erebus now disagreeing with Dragon's plan that he previously agreed to or did you just forget about it because it's been so long? :(

Obviously either way is fine, if Erebus is changing his mind I will write Dragon's response accordingly. If you just forgot, I wanted to give you the chance to edit before I responded.

I don't know where Ronin and Bandit are, but with SR13 on vacation and them posting only sporadically, I think it's best to try and pick it up and keep things moving. After you let me know your intentions for your latest IC post I'll respond and try to keep things moving.

You are right that things have bogged down; the recent activity in this thread has taken way too long to do very little and at this point I think it's best if you, me, and BC just try to keep moving things along. The others will respond when and where they can.

On the bright side, I guarantee that if we get into combat, suddenly they'll be responding a lot quicker. :D

You're right, I thought we were taking Daedalus rather than Virgil, my mistake. I'll modify my IC post. I was thinking in terms of resting to deal with drain for Vigil.

Oops, am modifying.

I agree, lets just post and get this going.

OK BC, we're ready for you to move us forward to the flower shop.

We'll have Virgil do an astral scan of the area before moving in (either through watchers, astral perception, or astral projection, I'm not sure what he can do right now) while Erebus and Dragon examine the area on the physical plane.

Let us know if you need anything else.

Anything you want to add to our preparations before moving in Cedric?

I'm thinking Dragon and Erebus go in, let Virgil stay outside in the car and keep an eye on things, holding himself in reserve for reinforcement via ambush if things go south. He isn't really up for a straight fight right now, what with him being so crippled and all.

I figure the two of us should be able to punch our way out or get clear in the event of trouble, unless they send a spirit at us, in which case Virgil better be able to deal with it or we'll have to get really creative, really quick.

Ok:

Bandit, give me a roll for Virgil or his watchers. Remember, your still stunned, at the same rate as before. I don't know if Virgil's on SR4 yet, but I'll be able to tell from the rolls, and it won't be a big deal either way.

Two things:

-In the interests of not completely knocking your character out of comission, the GM is advising not try to astrally project :)

-Also, to try to get this moving again, if I don't get a roll by tomorrow evening, I'll try to roll for you.
