actually, the vision enhancement 4 would probably also be a bit tricky to get.

Actually, as far as pages 301 and 302 are concerned, I didn't really get that impression. It does say that most standard items lack an Availability rating (p.301), and under the Black Market section it says that the "more interesting" items are harder to acquire based on availiability. But the definition of availability on 301 only says that the availability represents the difficulty to obtain the item, and doesn't specify that it only applies to goods on the black market (although it does cite legality as a reason for a higher availability rating). I don't know... I don't like the idea of a runner being able to buy items with availability of 32 down at the Stuffer Shack on the corner. |

What I was referring to was the first paragraph in "the availability test" on p 302 which seems to specify it only applies to restricted items on the black market. This also is what would make most sense. Even fairly unusual items are easily obtainable if they're legal. They can perhaps not be bought at any random shop, but a short search on the matrix/internet should enable you to locate them. I see no logical reason why it should be difficult to obtain perfectly legal equipment, though in some cases it might have to be custom made. |

p 84 applies to gear bought at character creation.
p 301 and 302 is in the purchasing Gear section section. Since "Availability represents a range of factors: scarcity, legality, distribution issues, and so on." I would most likely look at goggles with the complete set of vision mods, availability rating 30+ as more represnting the fact that such items simply aren't mass manufactured and marketed rather then a legally controlled item. Also note that I would expect the legal purchase of unusual or high end gear to be much more likely tracked by many parties for various reasons. |

And there simply might not be such an item that fulfills the exact requirements.
(Try getting an internal FDD with integrated Card Reader, running only on USB - because you barebone lacks a FDD controller and only has one 3.5 slot...) |

This is a comment on a couple of things said about using two firearms in combat a few pages ago.
One point in particular that can be a huge factor is Surprise. If you surprise your opponent(s), they cannot act against you. That means they cannot do anything except damage resistance (Body + Modified Armor). Now imagine you have ambidexterity and two Hammerli 620S light pistols with Ex Explosive ammo(6P DV, -2AP), Agility 6, Pistols 6. The Hammerlis have RC of 1 each, so no penalties on the first set of shots and only -1 die on the second set of shots. so you get 3 shots with 6 dice and 1 shot with 5 dice. For Sake of argument let say you get 2 hits on each shot. Your opponent has to resists 8P four times or 32 DV. As you can see, even with a light pistol you can do some incredible damage. Generally speaking your attacking dice pools are going to be greater than your opponents Reaction dice. Unless they go on full dodge, in which case you alter your strategy. For Example, my physical adept that I play with has a dice pool of 12 BEFORE I use my Ablity Boost (Agility) power, which could increase the dice pool to 16 thereby creating two dice pools of 8 each for my two guns. 80% of NPCs will not have have a reaction of 8. It is really hard to resist damage in SR4. Armor values are not nearly as effective in SR 4 as they were in SR3. Instead of lowering TN you get extra dice to resist a set amount of damage Vs a fixed TN. The trick in SR4 is not to get hit. My SR3 Troll had a body of 16 with 10 points of Ballistic/Impact armor. It's easy to roll 14 2s with 16 dice in SR3 but it is a heck of a lot harder to roll 9 5s with 14 dice in SR4. $0.02, RD |

Oh yeah, on more thing. Speaking of firearms, has anyone heard of recoil compensation rules for pistols? The Gas Vent systems specify that they can only be used in Machine Pistols, SMGs, Assault Rifles and Machine Guns, yet the Hammerli light pistol come stock with a Gas Vent I system, how does that work? I would sure like to put some Recoil compensation into my Ares Viper Silvergun.
thanks, RD |

It's a simple, and a wise thing to get nonconductivity added onto your armor. |

No. Since retinal modifications are cyberware enhancements, which don't go with Cat's eyes.

It says there's no action to reload, short of the obvious, so my guess is that it's a pseudo semi-auto. Technically you only shoot one bolt per pull of the trigger, but since no action is needed to reload, you can pull off two shots at a time.
No short burst though. |
