HMHVV, no worries, game wont be kicking off till the second week in january.

Nightcrawler472
Sandoval - Personally I prefer the mouse shaman, since my character has enough firepower to level a small building biggrin.gif

So who needs hand to hand? nyahnyah.gif
Jrayjoker
I am definitely interested.....I have played SR for about 12 years now, but my current crew is reluctant to play anything without a D20.

Anyway, this is what I am thinking:

Ears, Dwarf surveillance and recon guy. He grew up in the foster care system and is willing to do just about anything as long as it pays. He prefers to be a good guy rather than a bad guy, but if the money is right (and it usually is) he will do the job like a pro. He is fastidious about his person and his belongings and hates modern music and child abusers. He will often jump into a situation without conscious forethought, especially if someone is hurting a kid. Ears is new to Denver, but is working on developing his shadow contacts so that he can make it his long term home.

His main interest are in electronics and surveillance equipment and the Opera.

Let me know what you think...
Backgammon
I sort of have surveillance covered, but we could make a good team.
Nightcrawler472
The one thing we do seem to be lacking is a proper rigger driving an A-Team style van that can get us in and out of dodge...sure some of us have got individual transports but we've nothing that can carry multiple people + gear & a hostage (if we do an extraction for example)..

Just a thought though...
Tarantula
QUOTE (Mugzy)
I didnt even realize it until I reread the posts.

Tarantula? That who I think it is? I probably should have known.

Hey man, you should have just kicked that hell hound in the head with your kid stealth legs, instead of running away. I wasted a good burst on that thing.

For everyone else, I know my posting title (signed up today etc..) isnt exactally shining. However, for resume purposes, here's what I got: Ive been playing and running SR since first ed. (remember them crazy staging codes?!)

Ran 3 Denver based games (before Ghostwalker), countless seattle based, even 1 London and Euro, and a DeeCee. Currently we're starting a new current Seattle game up on Northern Colo, and Im lookin to start an old school (2050's) game for pick up groups.

This play by post seems to be pretty sweet, and something I can get into, esp. cause I have a little extra time at work too.

Heh, yeah, I'm who you think I am. Penchant for electronic warfare eh? Well, I'll probably be your friend if you're wanting to get into unplugged matrix hosts, I'm thinking of having a drone which can do remote dataline taps for my other decker friend, so you'll probably want to use them too.
Jrayjoker
Yeah, you could say I'll have your back, Back.... wink.gif

My guy is kind of a jack of all trades with an emphasis on surveillence and blackmail/data sales. Most of Ears' stuff is what you'd expect a PI to have, but he also has audio recording cyber and a decent general ettiquite skill.

Also, someone mentioned that it is good to have redundancy in case the crew splits up during a run. I am a decent sammie and a passable snoop. I also have an armored Americar...and with a few hours at a competent shop it could be outfit for rigger controls.

I just hope I get in.
Sandoval Smith
That was the style of rigger I had in mind for my third itineration of Tofu, however rigging(along with decking) is the area I'm least familar with, so I'm going back over the rules before I recreate Tofu again.

As for my request for min/maxing help, I didn't mean I wanted to twink my characters, but to make sure I didn't overlook anything obvious, or do something really dumb (like giving the Mouse version a spell list twice as long, but nothing at any sort of power, like I started with). Every time I've created characters, it's been with the group I'm gaming with, so there's a lot of discussion, and working towards complimentary abilities. There's a lot of feedback through the whole process, which is why I'm sitting a little uneasily here, because so far it's been pretty much solo.

I'll try and get the rigger finished today, and then I'll repost all three and we can see what the teams needs most: a support shaman, troll walking target, or team transportation rigger.

Just thought I'd give an update so people can know where I, as the GM stand.

Following characters are reviewed (This is just a start, but if you've posted a character and I don't comment on him, I probably didn't see anything that stood out to me as a character the player is really into. Ie: might consider revising or a different one.)

Fortune: No character yet, but as promised, anyone with more posts than me is auto-accepted. Make a character F and it's already approved.

HMHVV-Hunter: Psychic Soldier. I love this character, nice work, and he's in.

TomTom: StealthSamurai. Character has my attention, he seems cool, but I think you should work a bit on him (or talk to me if you'd like to get some suggestions.)

Lindt: FoxConjurerer. Character has my attention, talk to me a bit about stuff though, I'd like to make some recommendations. (I'll sell you and ONLY you Astral Projection for 5 SpellPoints if you're interested in addition to level 1 Initiation for 25 SpellPoints which would allow you to buy a MetaTech for 5 SpellPoints. These rules are CharacterRules, not HouseRules, your character only since he's a Conjurer with nothing to spend his Spell Points on)

BackGammon: Character doesn't interest me that much, but I appreciate your being highly active on the thread, and nearly having as many posts as myself. Feel free to PM me over ideas if you wantp.

Others: Don't give up, only 2 accepted characters so far, with 2 probables. Most haven't even posted a character yet, you should probably do so if you want a serious chance at getting in on this game.
Nightcrawler472
Well, I've spent time thinking about it and I'm in the process of altering my character slightly to be somewhat stealthier.

His concept's kinda hard to define, but I'll post his background if you want...

On a different subject...

I'm gonna give my character a car, but I was wondering if there were any specific rules for adding a secret compartment (either in the boot or under the back seats or something) to hide his weapons in? Oh, and how do you add armour to vehicles?

Armor is on pg 131/132 of R3R. For the compartment, I'd say the most fitting is the special storage area on pg 118 of R3R, however it is a design option and not a post production modification.
Morgannah
Aack! I'm nearly finished a working copy of my character and should be able to post her here before I have to start my holiday travelling (read: more than a week of visiting family and friends .. more turkey than any sane person should have to handle). If not, I'll be on sporadically over the next little while and definitely around again by the 28th.

That's ok. Tarantula doesnt have friends in real life either, let alone a sister.

It's just him, some cats, a plethora of Sierra Mist cans, and some furniture from my ex.

HMHVV Hunter
Ok, well if it isn't kicking off till the 2nd week of January, then I won't bow out smile.gif

Lindt: I meant MetaMagic Technique (Invocation is fine).

JRay: Posting the stats here is best as I seem to error when I try to access or use the PM system here.

Everyone: If you feel you must email me, wing_lion@hotmail.com is best for now. Don't email me a character sheet though, please.

Getting there Sphynx, but I'm somewhat anal about chargen, as you probably know by now. You'll have it ASAP. smile.gif

Hey, Morgannah, if you've got your ears on - what are you thinking for your B&E skills? Are there any you want to take that I could take so we can work together?

Think I'm gonna name my character Pixeleen.

Well, since I don't have Rigger 3, I guess that's a bit of a moot point.

But, I'm feeling rich so I think I'm gonna go buy it & the Cannon Companion tomorrow...and if I do I think I'm gonna re-design my character as the getaway driver type rigger I mentioned earlier...

Jrayjoker
I guess Ears is a bit of a snoop, 2nd story man, and sammie...I just looked over his stats, skills, cyber, and gear and that is what I come up with.

Gremish
Dear god .... anyone else having SERIOUS issues posting =P i seem to hit and miss about 9 outa 10 times (1 in 10 posts acualy goes up)
Fortune
Nope, no problems. Not even the 'double post' problem because I know better than to repost without checking the thread first.
Nu_Fenix
Hello all - Night Crawler was telling me about the game and I was wondering if I could apply to join?

Sphynx - I know I have a low post count, but thats because I tried to play in a game here long ago, and it went downhill and put me off, so I went and played various other games over at RPOL.
Roleplaying wise, I've done various other things, most of which being White Wolf - So I class myself as a roleplayer, not seomone who was raised on D&D which we all know is a rollplayer.

With all of the posts, changes and the such going around, its hard to keep track of what is and isn't being made for the group. Is it possible for someone to show me an up-to-date summary of what things are in the group?

Book-wise, I have SR3, CC and M&M. As such, I don't have a real copy of the point buy rules in front of me, although I have seen it printed in various places along the Matrix, so I should be fine smile.gif

As for posting probelms - Not long ago I tried to access the site and it kept saying 'Page cannot be displayed', so that could have been the problem Grem.

I take offence to that! As someone who has been playing and GMing role-playing games since the mid-seventies, I 'was raised' on D&D, and a whole lot of other games, and have been witness to a huge number and variety of playing styles. Any given gaming system does not automatically mean the player is or is not a 'rollplayer'. ohplease.gif
Gremish
I feel fortune on this one =P just cause we dont play Vamp the Mascarade and we use dice to help our combat ect doesnt mean we are "rollplayers" hell if its truely a role playing game combat / rolling dice only takes up about 10-15% of ur time anyway most should be role playing =D although some people just like combat thats why wizards so kindly gave all the 5 year olds DND 3rd edition.
Gremish
ok this was a double post because for some reason when im posting it gives me the error (see above) and just double posts it.... im not goign back and clicking forward again or anything so its not a user error from this end... posibly machine though.... =(

Sorry Fortune. Its just that the amount of decent roleplayers to come out of D&D compared to rollplayers is a very slim ratio!
On the flipside, people who are proper roleplayers after D&D are generally quite good wink.gif

Chance - Essence 0.38! OMG dude!! How close to the edge is your guy?? How much 'wares does one guy need wink.gif

I don't think you mean to be a troll, but you're way off base with those comments. If I had to get right down to it, I'd say Shadowrun ends up drawing more 'rollplayers,' simply due to the lure of the rumbling dice pools.

Anyway, since the rigger angle seems to be pretty well covered, I'm not going to finish the rigging version of John 'Tofu' Smith. Unless you people think we need another combat monster on the team, I'm also leaning towards using the Mouse shaman version, but like I said, I want to make sure people feel all our bases are adequately covered.
Chance359
Are we going to go with a group whos worked together before or individuals brought together now?
Fortune
Personally, from the sound of Sphynx's posts, it seems the he is implying that the emphasis should be more in the way of magic and/or muscle, whatever, as opposed to decking or rigging.

If you go for the Shaman, you might consider bumping his Charisma up a bit, or even more than a bit.
Fortune
QUOTE (Chance359)

Sphynx stated the we were to be a 'team', and be reasonably familiar with each other.
Gremish
i think what he means Fort is he realizes we are to be a team NOW but how did we get to this point? As of yet bud a few have played together but most are just coming in and its up to the GM to tell us WHY we are now forming this SR group =D
Sphynx
Fenix: Not to be offensive, but give me a D&D roleplayer anyday over a WhiteWolf "but I'm an elite 'role' player" type. My philosophy hangs on the idea of enjoy-the-fuck out of the game. You want to have a cyber-mage with 4.99 essence worth of cyber, go for it, have fun.

Chance: Read the very first post in the thread.

Lindt: Nice work on the Fox Shamanic Conjurer, you're in.

As I said, you guys determine the setting.  1 criminal, 1 soldier, 1 police, etc is why I said to work on Character Background only AFTER you come up with a team background.  First decide what type of team you are, build out that team THEN figure out the history that got you onto that team however many YEARS ago you joined it.  nyahnyah.gif

Sphynx

this is all i can see relating to what i posted earlyer So i post this instead =) there is your answer and mine i believe it was the 3rd page =-D
Sandoval Smith

Thanks Fortune, I forgot about his Charisma (he started out as a hermetic, until I decided a Mouse shaman was just too apropos), so I'll have to fix that. His rigger incarnation was amusing. At one point I ended up with .02 Essence, but then decided that was cliche, and raised it to .05.

As for getting together, I've already stated Tofu's entry into the story. He was part of a run against one of Ghostwalker's interests, but was the only survivor due to the rest of the team's screwups. It was decided that he could be a useful addition, so Ghostwalker added a shaman to his assets, and Tofu got to keep his skin.

I'll post stats for all three versions here.

Tofu, Mouse Shaman.
[ Spoiler ]

Tofu, Combat Adept Incarnation
[ Spoiler ]

And although thouroughly redundant, here's my a rough throw together for Tofu, Rigger (I forgot to use the point system so went priority: resources, skills, attributes, race, magic). If we need another rigger, and I use this version, I'll remake him with the point system..
[ Spoiler ]

Character history (with minor variations for the different versions).

This runner is a man who sometimes introduces himself as John Smith, to which most people respond, "You look like a John Smith." His running name, Tofu, was originallymeant as a joke on how bland and unremarkable he seemed, and it stuck. He was a Chicago boy, born and raised, and loved it there, even with the downward turn the city took after the Sears Tower came down. He had a strong, introversive streak, and was always rather quiet, preferring to watch what other people were doing, rather than participating himself.

When the Bugs came, and the wall went up, Tofu's family was trapped on the inside. In a city where motion could bring disaster, he became very good at sitting very still, and very quiet. It was a trait that saved him when his family attempted a run for sanctuary, and were spotted by a nest of wasps. He sat still and silent while the wasps swarmed around him, killing his parents, sister, and brothers. He cremated them himself, and then spent the next year learning how to run the shadows in the CZ. Obviously, he was a quick learner. He survived.

When the wall came down, he went to Detroit, taking up rescidense in one of the refugee neighborhood with some distant relatives. The urn holding his family's ashes was the only thing that he took with him. He lived, and ran in Detroit, until a series of unfortunate runs put his face on a couple of wanted lists. He relocated to Denver, hoping to lose himself in the confusion of the divided city.

After a little while there, he'd made enough of a reputation for himself that he was hired as an 'outside consultant' by a group of runners who didn't know that they were about to hit one of Ghostwalker's interests. The run went sour on several levels (Tofu got a bad feeling when he saw the sammie loading ex-ex into an Alpha, despite that this was supposted to be a 'hush hush run').

When the shooting stopped, and Ghostwalker's assests started sorting out the carnage, the first couple walked right by him, he sat so quiet and still (that also kept him from getting shot). Then he slowly raised his hands, and said, "Excuse me. I give up."

What followed were not the best few weeks of his life.

Well, what I am seeing is a (potential) team that can do a heck of a good job sneaking around gathering information and recording people without their knowledge. Lots of B&E, surveillance (both magical and mundane), some physical protection, and some technological support. A good hook to make us (assuming I get in) all a team would be that we were all hired at one point or another as individuals by Ghostwalker's agents to do a data steal/info grab/surveil/etc. and the big lizard saw the merit in teaming us up so we could play of each others' strengths and offset each others' weaknesses.

As to how long it has been, My concept is/was that Ears is relatively new to the area and is/was doing freelance work for Ghostwalker's agents. Perhaps he has been in Denver longer that I originally intended and is working with the team now. I could see Ears as being drawn to the Mouse shaman as a friend since our natures are to be quiet and observe, and act only when fully prepared (except when his poor impulse control gets the best of him, he does struggle with it). Also, we are both from the northern Midwest (Chicago IIRC, and Minneapolis). I don't think there is any cannon about the military bases in Minnesota, but we do have some, so the military could tie in as well.

Well, those are my thoughts. Any advice Sphynx, or are you just not that compelled?
