I am waiting until the SR4 rulebook is in at least the second printing before buying. Has the first run sold out yet? How will I be able to find out when it does?

FanPro will more than likely announce a second print run when it occurs.

Just so you do know there is the option, the PDF is in it's 3rd "printing" and it is a near lock that any changes/updates/corrections made for the 2nd hardcopy are going to be released [free for the d/l to any current owner] on PDF too.
P.S. Yes, i understand some people like the physical hardcopy. But if you have access to a free printer it costs the price of a hamberger, and not even a good one, the result bound profressionally with a springy coil. I can say it works GREAT that way because you can lay it open dead flat at any page, or ever fold it back on itself so it's just the normal book size but you see the whole page. You don't feel like it just cost you money to scribble notes in the margin, or [like last night happened to our GM] knock over your beer on the table.

It is? As far as I knew, there were only two PDF 'printings' to date.

Two versions of the PDF have been released, but the first version of the PDF already had a bunch of corrrections from the initial printing (hardcopy only) of the rules.
EDIT: I do see where calling it a third printing would be confusing and misleading. Probably i should have called it a second revision issued or something.

Understood, it's not for everyone.
P.S. I did too when i ordered the PDF. Now i'm thinking about selling my LE and not replacing it with a standard book.

For what it's worth, they usually do add a line to the credits page of the book when they issue a corrected printing.
